I’m pretty sure there’s an inconsistency people never realize when comparing hours. Everyone who plays on Steam looks at how many hours Steam says they’ve played, which counts every hour Rocket League is open. Everyone else checks their stats page to see how many hours they’ve played which only tracks time spent playing actual games. For example, my stats page shows 1/5 of the hours that Steam says I have. It doesn’t include all the time I’ve spent in training or workshop maps, and also Steam hours includes all the time just sitting in the menu doing nothing.
@soldierdoge22853 жыл бұрын
Yeah, nobody really stays on the main menu for a long time so I think the stats on the Steam/Epic Games launchers are more right.

So I saw a comment that said that the reason the lower rank players progress through the ranks quickly is because we take big risks in learning mechanics first rather than actual game sense. Well this is what I did basically. Focused a lot on mechanics, but when I transitioned into learning game sense I could put my mechanics into practice so my gameplay is more consistent overall. I think it’s a good way to improve overall, at the start it may be slow, but the end result really is worth it. I would say ones helps a lot with consistency as does learning shadow defence, boost management, boost pathing and back post rotation. Once you’ve learned those you’re basically set to improve in terms of consistency and your overall capabilities. I still have ways to go, I have 870 hours but still not as consistent as I want to be. It’s just the drive to improving to enjoy the game more for me.
@badateverything29313 жыл бұрын
liesss I believe yall take big risk in learning game sense (as in u try hard to win, learning whenever u can) and do mechanics on the side to support it. You might say you focas on mechs, but in game you put more of your game sense to use. Hence why there's cracked plats every like 1/100 games with like 2k hours to back them up. they are actually those who do mechanics first and game sense later.
@CaaziPianoSheets3 жыл бұрын
@@badateverything2931 Well that’s a bold assumption. Unfortunately it’s not right, but I do think the concept of learning game sense before mechanics is interesting. I feel like the problem with that is you can’t put it into practice because you’re not practicing in matches and overall consistency won’t be as high

Yeah, the lower hour players tended to go for more brave or mechanical plays despite not actually having mechanics to finish it off sometimes. The higher hour players never seemed to go out of their comfort zone and they always fell into the mindset of keeping it close. However, the career tab hours are usually 3-4x less than your actual hours, so this is really not that accurate.

One thing to consider, I joined after f2p and rose quickly-ish, this was without a doubt having multiple people who had played for YEARS and were all diamond to low champ. They taught me almost everything i know except the mechanics that i had to practice on my own. It is significantly easier to rank up when you have a lot of friends that tell you how to get gud, play with you, give you examples etc. They had to figure it out on there own which take way more time.

Hot take: the reason the low hour players reached that rank more quickly is because of the difference stated in the video- by taking big risks and practicing mechanics in game without being a ball chaser and being willing to lose games, they got there so much faster than the ones trying to play safe and positionally.

I used to be one of those guys with few hours for my rank. And I ranked up because of my mechanics. I spent way more time in training, and this was on Xbox, so when I hopped in ranked after a week of training it was like I leveled up. Seems like Helical was referring to less hours = worse mechanics. When it more likely means worse positioning but being faster. In my case at least. I feel like adding that when I "leveled up" I also felt my positioning and game sense improve because I had more control over my car and thus more control over the game as a whole. Again, this is my experience.

I was plat 3 with about 20 hours... still there now with 50 hours because i switched from keyboard to controller. Tbh it wasnt even intentional, I really sucked real bad. I couldn’t even hit a powershot properly... all I did was 100% game sense and centering the ball for my teammate to score and rotating back post. I learnt to play fast in those first 20 hours because they were only dropshot with my friends. It boosted my learning a ton. Also did an aerial training pack one evening but that’s it. You learn faster when you go for stupid shit, fail, then adapt. To illustrate that: Day 1 in dropshot I started to try and fly up in the air to get the ball, ofc I didnt hit a single one. This made me lose, over and over because my friends never dared to go for air plays and therefore ofc won because they didn’t miss while I did. 2 days later though I could hit the ball in the air and they couldn’t. Because they never tried to do things they couldn’t they never improved. Point is you will lose at first, but once u get it down you’ll beat the people who are to comfortable to go for risky plays.

My rocket league experience. I started when my brother bought the game to play with his friends, he ended up moving on but I was captivated by it. Immediately I was advancing, I just seemed to have a knack for the game and I quickly ranked up through bronze and silver. As I was in gold, I began watching other RL players and one thing stood out to me. Mechanical wizardry. I was so captivated by the mechanical prowess of the elite players, I just trained and trained and trained. Ceiling shots when from the hardest thing to do to consistently hitting them in practice. Aerials are easier. Dribbles are easier. I was ranking up fast. Eventually, I got to plat and that’s where my love for the game was dying out. You see, along with practicing a ton, I became a bit of a freestyler. Free styling helped me a ton to improve all aspects of my game but unfortunately being ranked with lower players, I would have to carry. After rage quitting many times do to last second goals because my teammate couldn’t press the jump button. I quit 2s entirely. After quitting twos I realized that there was a game mode that you didn’t have to rely on teammates. So I grounded ones. I ultimately got into diamond 2 of ones and just worked on mechanics, it was at that time when I managed to play 3 1v1s vs a GC, which I lost by one every game. The point was, I was keeping up at the GC level, but couldn’t manage to get over the hump off ranking up. I then went back to 2s and ranked up from plat, to champ 1 where I then ultimately plummeted to diamond 1. I then quit the game. Fast forward and I haven’t played RL in a year, until now. I just got back into playing RL, everything feels new. Except 1s, I just went from plat 1 to plat 3 in a day. 2EZ. What is new? Idk. I’m playing RL again, and hopefully, for a long time. Also I only have 200 hours in the game.

Being Plat III with 150 hours on point in actual matches + like 80 hours in training and private matches, 2004 games, 6,000+ goals scored, I say I'm probably above average. Also I've refined my mechanics pretty well. I can air dribble, slightly with air roll right, I can double tap, ceiling shot, and about 4/10 times, I land flip resets.

Also on my switch it says I have about 510 hours but I rarely close the game, I just turn off my switch, and I spend hella time trading but when I check my game stats it says I've played for a total of 6 days and 6 hours which is equivalent to 150 hours and we have time spent in traning too so about 230 hours.

What type of diamonds did you choose? In NAW diamond 1v1s are more like how the champs played

sounds like OCE which is the worst region in the game, ME/EU lobbies are also far better than this

You should do this with 2s with the same people, would be interesting to see how different they play, I'm way worse in ones than I am in 2s

Took me 800-850 hours to get to Champ 1 lol. And there are guys with half my hours played on Steam that are GC. Thats honestly impressive af
@karyo-tq3fb3 жыл бұрын
that's not his steam hrs. that's his career hrs. for comparison, i had 350 career hrs and 1k steam hrs when i hit gc, so it's not really that impressive or uncommon.

The thing you said about low hour players being aggressive is super true! I'm gc1 with 130 hours and really struggle with my game sense and therefore tend to play aggressive
