Heliconia - Tall & Skinny Soap Challenge Club Entry

This is my entry for the Apt-20 Soap Challenge Club in the advanced category. My inspiration was the Heliconia plant I saw while on vacation in Costa Rica. It was a stunning plant, and I knew it belonged in a soap, I just wasn’t sure how I would capture the design. When this challenge came along, I realized it was perfect for the flower, which has its own shimmy.

Awesome job, Nectaria! You did a great job with the ambidextrious pouring! On my last soap I cheated and switched my mold back and forth so I could pour with my right hand! LOL! The inspiration is beautiful and the soap reflects it well - great job on the colors and shimmy! I enjoyed seeing your other batches also.

Amy Warden haha! Yes, I definitely got better with left-handed pouring by the 4th batch. I was wishing I had a lazy Susan for this one, but I guess it’s just another skill I worked on. Thank you for the feedback!

Thank you! Yes, I made the mold out of foam board. It lasted for 2 attempts, then I had to make another one. For my final attempt, I used the freezer paper. It was much easier to get out of the mold with the freezer paper, but the folding to fit the mold is an art in and of itself!

Soapfistication that's why I asked. Yours looks nice and tidy. My second attempt leaked out of the mold. I didn't have the heart to try again and risk losing all that soap again. Maybe the foam was what I needed instead of a cereal box. I just used what I could get my hands on though. I'm enjoying seeing all the entries regardless. 😍

J and W Soaps I am so sorry yours leaked! That must have been frustrating. I had a LOT of tape on my foam board, so I think that was a big help. Once I added the freezer paper, it was even better protection. I did a curbside pickup to get the foam board - it’s not normally something I have lying around. But given the situation, I got much more than I needed for only one mold. Now I can make several molds without needing to leave my house!
