I did my PPL at Sywell in 1983. I think that's the first time I've seen the airfield since. Goodness, so modern...but nice to see the tower is still the same!😊

Just finished going through all of your videos after finding your channel. It was amazing to see your flying career progress and your family stories were great. You have a gift for speaking and filming, thank you for sharing. Your parents moved to the island in the 70’s I think you said, was the island named for them or is there a historical connection to the name, when I first saw them on one of your visits I noticed there was no island accent. Keep up the good work.
@RoryOnAir2 жыл бұрын
Hi James, thank you for your message and I’m delighted you enjoyed watching my videos. I was actually named after the island. Auskerry means ‘outer skerry’ in old Norse language. My accent is a product of English parents, home schooling and radio 4 I’m afraid! I’m hoping to do an update from Bristow soon but we’ll see. Cheers

Nice to see another video so soon Rory I think the mixed weather and storm dodging is more representative of UK flying. Thanks for sharing 👍😊 The rear of the R44 doesn't look as roomy as I'd thought, the bulkhead is very upright (might be a camera angle thing though)? Also with the cyclic have you removed the passenger portion - is that for safety or convenience? I suppose in the Robinson's it's more like a yoke - than a stick - in some ways. Did I mishear, did your mate Sam call the Cabri a flying saucer?🤔🤔🤔 In 'Nam, ever present UFOs, were called 'enemy helicopters', because the enemy didn't have helicopters.😉😉😉😲😉😄 May? Nearly a year ago? 😲😲 No masks required now, yet in these parts people are still dropping like flies with fluey/flu symptoms, certainly to flu epidemic proportions too - the vaccine seems to make not a jot of difference. Luckily all seem to recover unlike SARS2 Alpha or Delta🤞🤞😊✌️ Also unless everyone is wearing a mask and it's FFP2 or above? Diminishing returns 🤔🤔
@RoryOnAir2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Yeah we take the Co-pilot side of the stick away when taking passengers for safety.
@musoseven82182 жыл бұрын
@@RoryOnAir You're most welcome - as always - understood👍😊 Yet with another pilot on board? Leaving it on/in could be helpful if the P1 was taken ill🤔🤔🤔 BTW, I remember Bruntingthorpe being operational and then home to 'Rolling Thunder' events. It looked much better back then👍✌️😉😊😊
@RoryOnAir2 жыл бұрын
@@musoseven8218 the argument against that is most pax would crash a heli if they tried so it’s pointless. More likely to cause a crash by accident than save the day with an incapacitated pilot (which doesn’t happen often luckily)

Hi Rory, quick question, taking off into IMC, is this one pilot who takes off for the small part of VMC and then another pilot for the IMC bit? or the pilot taking off transitions to instruments?
@RoryOnAir Жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, if you’re talking about my current job, we fly one pilot flying and the other is pilot monitoring. So if we are in IMC the PF does all the handling and it’s closely monitored by the PM. I hope that answers your question?

Any advice on getting the licenses and getting into helicopters? Thinking of applying for the Bristow scholarship, but also leaning more towards the military once I've finished my A-Levels. What would you recommend?
@RoryOnAir Жыл бұрын
If you can get a scholarship then you’re winning I’d say. Otherwise paying for your own training is extremely expensive so make sure you can afford the CPL H and an IR before you start. Good luck!
