Cheers @Micah! Just a side story; March 15th was my birthday, we were going to meet up with my parents at Universal on the 14th to celebrate (we live in Central CA, they live in San Diego, so it was a good middle place). Then do Disney (just me and my spouse) on Monday. When we heard Disney was closing on the 14th we began to worry, then Universal closed and we canceled those plans and just went to San Diego for the weekend, but 6 Flags was still open so that became Monday's plan.... Until it closed. So at some point we had planned to visit all the parks except Knott's the weekend they all closed. (We knew the second Disney closed that everyone else would probably follow suit, but we were hoping someone would wait for a few more days)

Hi Micah - John Hanson again. We were talking about flying in L.A. in 1972. I used to have to file Special VFR because visibility was less than 3 miles. We'd circle, staying in the airport boundaries, until we had 3 miles or better. That would often take us to 5,000 feet and then visibility went from less than 3 to greater than 100 - we could see Santa Barbara. We'd cancel Special VFR and ask for flight following, cross LAX, and fly the coastline to S.B. where we'd have a great lunch. Sights? How about Balboa Island?? Thanks for another great ride.

not boring at all. I used to make themed park maps for "fictitious" parks, so aerial drawing was a specialty. I was always looking for books that had aerial photographs of parks. I worked for the now defunct AstroWorld (Six Flags) in Houston, TX. There were tons of color aerials of the park in the main office. God I wish I had "one" Great work and many thanks. I also truly admire aviators like yourself. I'm lousy at directions even driving. No WAY could I ever fly. I'll let the pros do it.

Hey there’s Six Flags Magic Mountain, my current place of employment. Long time no see. Strange to see that many cars in the parking lot though. Mostly tourist now.

Disneyland is nice, but it's overpriced and caters to families. Universal is nice, but overpriced and caters to international tourists. SFMM is poorly run, but it has plenty of rides for adults and is reasonably priced. Knotts hits all the high notes. Thrill rides, things for kids, it's a very nicely themed and well run park, and it's not insanely expensive.

@@Gigaamped Not receiving attention is the reason many locals love Knott's. It doesn't pull in as many tourists, which drives and prices and overcrowds the park. Still, even with less attention and more budget entree fees, it still offers world-class rides and themes.

@@Gigaamped Salty? No, that's a major reason of why it doesn't suck like Six Flags. Less attention = less riffraff.

I used to live in LA (SFV) up until 2011 (Now in Dallas, TX) I also used to work at both Universal & Six Flags, this was the closest views I could get of home without having to fly back. I know it's not much but as far as flyover requests, a tour of the San Fernando Valley if possible would be great! Feeling a little homesick!

Do they put up a temporary flight restriction over Universal when filming to keep them pesky guys in helicopters at bay? lol 😆

Being largely built in the last 100 years most of LA and Orange counties are laid out on North-South grid lines. But if you know what you are looking for there still are signs of older patterns visible. The LA to Santa ana pacific electric route is one still easy to see which cuts through everything at an angle.. At the top of Eldorado park the park is not square and is you follow that line to the south east you can see that it shows in many places like where it crosses ball road it causes the road to curve. Those are old Rancho boundary lines which effected development of the later grid system in places.... Point being there is much history that shows from the air that goes unnoticed or not understood from the ground. As you fly you must see many such things that would be cool to mention as you pass... Great video again, good job !

You're everyone's problem. That's because every time you go up in the air, you're unsafe. I don't like you because you're dangerous.

What an amazing video! It's surprising how small Knott's Berry Farm and Universal Studios looks from above. Magic Mountain looked incredible.

It's funny. The GUESS warehouse just before D'town LA. Can't miss. Reminds me of a Target store in Flushing Queens, NY. There's a big Target bullseye painted on the roof. Vasquez Rocks is a cool place up the 14. The location of many a sci-fi and car commercial. Picard had a seen there in the second (?) episode. And I see people found the destroyed 747 for ya. I was looking too. Trusty google maps. Safe flying Micah. Bob and weave, Micah. Bob and weave.

You made me happy, and I neither requested the flyover of St Sophia nor am Greek Orthodox. I never thought of that, but, I bet rental car companies actually plan on never having all their cars back at once and don't have enough parking spaces for all of them, those could also be stock piled new cars, sometimes dealers buy a boatload and park them off site till they can sell them.

I used to go to school in East LA and live in the AV. The early morning commute down the 14 was usually ok right to about Sand Canyon. Although all the maniacs made it unpleasant no matter what. The afternoon commute didn’t get nasty until about 1500 or so and usually jammed up just before Newhall Ave. On a good day I could go one way in 80mins. On a bad day, 3-5 hours, one way. So THE 14 was looking like a 60 minute ride to my eyes and foot! ;-) ;-) Loving the videos! Stay safe!

I stumbled upon your videos two days ago and I have to tell you they're awesome! Helicopter flight has always been a huge interest my whole life. I'm a paraplegic which means the chances of me ever becoming a heli pilot would be pretty slim since I couldn't operate the pedal controls. Oh well.... Me and my wife went to Vegas one year and of course we took a helicopter tour of the strip. We took the tour at nighttime which made the ride ten times better. We also took a helicopter tour over Lake Meade and over Hoover Dam. Timeless experiences I will never forget. Just wanted to say that I really, really appreciate your videos.

Great videos, Micah. There's an old Red Line corridor parallel to I 5 halfway between I 405 and I 5 easily visible from Santa Ana to Buena Park, I would like to see how it has developed and how much of the old railed is still visible. Also, when you fly along, keep the camera rolling. It's all interesting!! If you could occasionally identify an intersection, to keep us oriented, that would be helpful.

I use to live in LA long time ago, now I hate it all because the traffic, the weather . When i have a chance i go there and visit my family. and after seen this it make me depress . Now i dont care if theres traffic, 100 degrees, i dont care, all what i care is that everyone is safe and the time will come when we will go back to normal and enjoy those places. I haven't been in magic mountain in about 13 years, Disneyland in about 10 years and the same time in Knox berry farm i was at universal studios this pass new year. thank you for bringing memories to everyone who has visited or plan to visit LA in the future.
