Cheers @Micah! Just a side story; March 15th was my birthday, we were going to meet up with my parents at Universal on the 14th to celebrate (we live in Central CA, they live in San Diego, so it was a good middle place). Then do Disney (just me and my spouse) on Monday. When we heard Disney was closing on the 14th we began to worry, then Universal closed and we canceled those plans and just went to San Diego for the weekend, but 6 Flags was still open so that became Monday's plan.... Until it closed. So at some point we had planned to visit all the parks except Knott's the weekend they all closed. (We knew the second Disney closed that everyone else would probably follow suit, but we were hoping someone would wait for a few more days)

Hi Micah - John Hanson again. We were talking about flying in L.A. in 1972. I used to have to file Special VFR because visibility was less than 3 miles. We'd circle, staying in the airport boundaries, until we had 3 miles or better. That would often take us to 5,000 feet and then visibility went from less than 3 to greater than 100 - we could see Santa Barbara. We'd cancel Special VFR and ask for flight following, cross LAX, and fly the coastline to S.B. where we'd have a great lunch. Sights? How about Balboa Island?? Thanks for another great ride.

not boring at all. I used to make themed park maps for "fictitious" parks, so aerial drawing was a specialty. I was always looking for books that had aerial photographs of parks. I worked for the now defunct AstroWorld (Six Flags) in Houston, TX. There were tons of color aerials of the park in the main office. God I wish I had "one" Great work and many thanks. I also truly admire aviators like yourself. I'm lousy at directions even driving. No WAY could I ever fly. I'll let the pros do it.

@Gigaamped4 жыл бұрын
knut convince me you’re not just salty over the fact that every other theme park receives more attention. I grew up with and love Knotts to a certain extent but c’moon
Disneyland is nice, but it's overpriced and caters to families. Universal is nice, but overpriced and caters to international tourists. SFMM is poorly run, but it has plenty of rides for adults and is reasonably priced. Knotts hits all the high notes. Thrill rides, things for kids, it's a very nicely themed and well run park, and it's not insanely expensive.
@samir65234 жыл бұрын
@@Gigaamped Not receiving attention is the reason many locals love Knott's. It doesn't pull in as many tourists, which drives and prices and overcrowds the park. Still, even with less attention and more budget entree fees, it still offers world-class rides and themes.

Being largely built in the last 100 years most of LA and Orange counties are laid out on North-South grid lines. But if you know what you are looking for there still are signs of older patterns visible. The LA to Santa ana pacific electric route is one still easy to see which cuts through everything at an angle.. At the top of Eldorado park the park is not square and is you follow that line to the south east you can see that it shows in many places like where it crosses ball road it causes the road to curve. Those are old Rancho boundary lines which effected development of the later grid system in places.... Point being there is much history that shows from the air that goes unnoticed or not understood from the ground. As you fly you must see many such things that would be cool to mention as you pass... Great video again, good job !

The afternoon commute didn’t get nasty until about 1500 or so and usually jammed up just before Newhall Ave. On a good day I could go one way in 80mins. On a bad day, 3-5 hours, one way. So THE 14 was looking like a 60 minute ride to my eyes and foot! ;-) ;-) Loving the videos! Stay safe!
