From the Company :
We’ve designed the Pilgrim® jacket for demanding outdoor activities in dynamically changing weather. Based on the zipped "kangaroo" construction proven for decades, it has been clearly refined to meet the expectations of modern travelers, while still hitting the aesthetics of the "old guard". Numerous pockets will allow for convenient placement of equipment, while their characteristic arrangement will make them constantly available, even when working in a sitting position or kneeling. We have elongated the whole construction of the jacket, thanks to which it protects our body regardless of the equipment we carry. By lowering the "kangaroo" pocket, we were also able to extend the front zipper of the jacket, which allows the user to better ventilate his body during strenuous approaches or work
…….
Features :
Insulated Kangaroo Pocket
Zippered Bicep Pockets
Adjustable Hood
Zipper Chin Guard
Zippered Front pockets with internal organizer
Internal Loops
Zippered Hip Pockets
Adjustable bottom via Shock Cord Adjusters
Button Chest pockets with internal loops
Pit Zips
Adjustable cuffs
Duracanvas
Review Pros :
……………..
I have been running with this anorak or jacket, whatever you wish to call it for over half a year and here are my thoughts and observations concerning it;
Awesome quality which Helikon-Tex is becoming known for. The company makes awesome products and this is one which I can easily recommend for any outdoor adventure. It’s comfortable enough for a hike in the woods after work and is tough enough for a bushcraft trip.
Built tough; as soon as you get this in your hands it is going to impress most people; it’s feel like it is going to last and with my experiences it certainly has.
Good wind resistance
Good breathablity especially as you open the zippered pockets - that helps with ventilation
Hip pockets are low enough to be accessible with a backpack waist-belt
Quick drying
Price is very much fair for what you are getting; I’ve mentioned this before with other Helikon Anoraks; the prices of similar products can be absolutely insane. The Fjallraven Anorak no 8 which is similar to this is $450!
Large center zip which makes putting on and taking off the Anorak easy. Not all designs are like this and some can be difficult unless you go with a much larger size.
Sizing is on the larger than side which I like as it provides enough space for additional layering but you need to be prepared for this before you make a purchase.
Review Cons :
………………
Picking up from the last pro, Sizing is on the larger than side and for myself, I had to go down in one size for a good fit; I’m a medium to large and I had to go with a small and fits fine.
No Velcro on the shoulders or chest for patches -
Pro Tip :
While you can wax it for added waterproof protection, you can treat this with a nikwax dwr and it does an awesome job and it’s a hell of a lot easier. Waxing will offer overall better water resistance but limits breathability and don’t think for a second that even with wax that this will become a rain jacket.
With a Nikwax Cotton Proof treatment, you add Durable Water Repellency; add virtually no weight while maintaining the breathability of the polycotton in wet weather. Also, it will dry faster with a Nikwax treatment

Sew on your own velcro, it is easy. And most people probably don't want the velcro on their jacket (we don't do patches).

I bought this anorak several months ago and we're finally getting weather in which I can use it pretty regularly while hiking. I used Nicwax TX on mine and I'm really happy with the results. You are 100% right about the sizing. I would normally go with an XL for a jacket that I plan on wearing layers underneath. With a large, I can comfortably wear a base layer and a merino wool sweater underneath it without any restriction of movement. For the price I don't think you can beat this one. On a side note, my experience with the jacket led me to purchasing their Pilgrim pants. All I can say is that I'm very happy that I didn't spend twice as much (or more) on a pair of Fjällräven pants.

I have the same jacket and I love it! The inside webbing are really good for clipping your gloves when your not using them and keeps them warm. The fact that it’s spark resistant is amazing and use it over my puff jacket and not worry too much about being close to the fire. Great review! Thanks!

Luke I love the fact that you test items over months of different conditions. 99% of reviewers will take something out once and then review it, if they actually use it in the field at all.

Just a quick comment. I'm not an anorak type guy I prefer the coat style. But even things your reviewing and or doing that I'm not interested in, I find interesting and well done. Honest and sincere. So I end up watching anyway. Thanks Luke. Keep up the great work. And LIVE LIFE LARGE! It's shorter than you think.

Good to see more testing of outdoor clothing. Whilst not all of us can live the woodsman lifestyle, we all want good clothing which does what it is supposed to do, and which offers value for money. As you say, you can spend huge amounts of money on certain clothes and clothing lines... however the majority of us want to purchase quality products, which don't break the bank. No one wants to buy rubbish, or purchase things which don't do what they say they do. Thanks for your unbiased reviews and commitment to help your viewers make educated decisions and purchases. Hi all, I totally agree with everything Luke mentions in this video. I totally love this jacket. I've gone one steps further however and did wax this jacket and it does a very good job of wicking away rain and water from a mild drizzle to a medium downpour of rain. And it still dries quickly enough in front of a fire. As for ventilation with the wax, it's still quite good because of the large front zip, pockets and armpit zips. I totally recommend it also. Awesome review Mr. Lone Wolf!!!

Nice! I'd love to see the spark resistance claim stress tested, especially after the Nikwax Cottonproof treatment as I went that route myself with the pants from the same series that I recently bought and that this was a factor in not going full synthetic for me. Used them with a simple base layer under for sleeping in the woods, foraging and some A-to-B cycling. Very happy so far, especially considering value for money. Lots of great design choices, very comfortable to move around in.

When I first noticed you wearing this jacket I thought it was from Fjallraven until I shopped for a good hiking shirt. I found one by Helikon Tex, the SFU Next Shirt for $48, and I absolutely love this shirt with the multiple pockets and just its old military design in general. The HT jacket looks superb on you and now I want one; price is more than reasonable. I also want their Patriot Fleece in the Polish woodland camo. Those two sternum pockets seem to be ideal to insert two large packets of hand warmers. I love the "flow-thru" hip pockets, the way I like the ones on my hoodies. Gloves and whatever else (wallet and cell phone) you put in them don't fall out like they do from regular pockets. Your pro tip is a good one that I learned from a match fishing friend of mine in England. He used Nikwax on all of his fishing outfits as England's fishing weather always seems to be in rain and/or fog. I bought an English RAF jacket and immediately applied Nikwax to it. Anyway, Helikon Tex never ceases to amaze me with the quality of their products. As far as a velcro patch, you could have a non-adhesive panel sewn on by an expert seamstress. Your TOGR patch goes with me wherever I go as it's become part of a large collection in my Jeep...my patch rug.

I like the idea of it being breathable. Being that you could open up some of those zippers and if you were carrying a pack you get some airflow inside so you don't sweat. Say you don't have to keep stopping taking it off putting it on that makes life so much more simple.

I almost bought either this one or the Woodsman, but went with the Snugpak Venture Pile shirt ( smock/ anorak) instead. Unlike most outer layers, its meant to be worn on its own and not part of a traditional layering system. This is because it's insulated with their super thick Pile that's almost like a very long stranded and dense fleece which allows it to be extremely moisture wicking. Its outer material isn't as durable as the Helikon models, but its got a ton of other features that, to me, make up for it. Snugpak has recently stopped making them though to sell off their stock in anticipation of an updated version that's being released in January . I've also got the matching Venture Pile pants and have worn them together comfortably below zero so far. They are DEFINITELY worth checking out and have performed very well for me so far. I recently did a vid showing them up close for my channel if anyone is interested. Great vid Luke, I think I might have to pick one up anyway now to replace my old Fjällraven Telemark shell/jacket. ~ Chesapeake

Looks like a good jacket,, I like your reviews are a big help,, I have purchased things in the past ,, then see you do a review on it and tend to agree with your results ,, unfortunately with some purchases,,I lost... I don't like sending things back ,, post office not close or open only short hrs. and UPS is even farthur, , ,so it winds up put aside and forgotten until I can give it away ...much prefer to buy from physical outlet,, but now live where there are none and internet buying is pretty much only way to get makes/models of gear without taking a 2-day trip,, just to not find item desired...sizing is SO inconsistent, that I shy away from good clothing gear ..until I see others with it and get opinions ,,then still take a gamble on fit... This item looks and sounds from review like something I would like and as mentioned ,, priced where I can buy ,, even with the sizing risk...usually things are way to small,, so go through the hassle of returning and wind up without because sizes are limited... ...Thanks for the review .. ..... Stay Safe and God Bless .....
