It’s incredible that we are getting updates like this in 2022. My Helix is like a whole new modeller based on the last few updates. All for free! It’s the single best guitar purchase I’ve ever made. So happy I took the plunge on my Helix rack 5 years ago. Line 6 is a great company.

Total agree. It seems if line 6 want to compete with the likes of Axe fx and others they need to pushing out updates like this. This raises their awareness and credibility in the guitar community and makes more of us wanting to try and buy.

I appreciate this update just like everyone else, but gatta be real. This mic placement isn't anything new and Helix is the last to get it out of all the highend modelers so. Either way, really appreciate the update and love how they sound. But could've come quicker

Something worth bearing in mind: I remember from reading about psycho-acoustics many years ago that the threshold for our ears detecting sounds as being simultaneous is ~20ms. That doesn't mean that

Delaying one side should be used when you want the sound to "come from one side" in stereo, it's not a great stereo widener effect because of how it sounds like it is coming from one side even when the levels are matched. If you want good double-tracked stereo, the Shultz magic technique is detuning +5 cents and -5 cents and panning them hard left and right. Tom detuned them even more sometimes, but I've found that with detune effects that the +5/-5 spread is sufficient to make a very wide stereo image without favoring either side. I'm sure the Helix can do it, but it can also be achieved with the Boss PS-6 if you want a stompbox version.

I recently downloaded the Rabea Neural demo and was enjoying the heck out of it, then Line 6 released this update. The magnitude of tones you can get out of the Helix is astounding Corey! The amps sound incredible and the dual IR feature is sick. I like the sound of the Neural plug-ins as well, but they seem extremely limited for the money compared to what Line 6 is offering their customers. All these years later with no upcharge? I think I need more power than this. I like my modulation. I have a compressor, chorus, delay, and reverb that are always on to thicken the sound. You almost can't tell they are on. Then other modulations for different moods. I can't get out to try these for myself at the moment, so I need KZbin to start my search.😃 I'm not sure if I should get a cheap multi effects board without getting rid of some pedals, or be completely free of extra gear and go direct with an expensive board. Less gear sounds more appealing I must admit. Thoughts/opinions?

This is fantastic. I always preferred the off axis 57 for cabs in the HD500x but this brings it to all mics so down the rabbit I go. I wonder if the new blocks do something to introduce the heft factor you previously compensated with the high/low shelf eq between the amp cab - the constant comparison on feel or amp in the room flappy trousers of FAS to L6, or if they still have the more mix friendly version they've had in the past. My way to get around was the XXL V30 cab which had some woofing through my powered PA 15" cone (didn't work as well with 12" cone PAs). Anyway very excited about this update as an update to a fundamental/foundational feature such as cabs.

Dear John, Your patches sound absolutely beautiful and so is your playing. I am a gigging guitarist I play from small events to very big open air festival’s. At the moment I am using a Mesa boogie tc-50 in combination with a helix floor in a 4 cable method plus midi to switch my channels and reverb. I really want to make the switch To using only the helix for reasons as consistentie in sound no matter the stage and for light weight traveling from venue to venue. I only used to run in to some issues. firstly I am pretty dependent on snapshots but haven’t found a amp model that can give me enough flexibility to go from clean to overdrive in a matter where I both like them. So I ran out of dsp to fast. Secondly your patches sound absolutely beautiful because they are stereo patches. But as good as this work in the studio. It would be a nightmare for a life performance. Imagine a very big out door event and you standing on the right side of the stage where the guitar sound is coming of a ribbon and delayed. You will think the guitar tone sucks and is not tight. Because you would hardly hear the left speaker. The way to do this is keep them both in center and blend both characteristics in to one signal. I will definitely try to give it another go. Because I really would like to travel with just my helix. I would appreciate your opinion and maybe some ideas and tips. The reason I need snapshots is for the trials from delay and reverb. I play as a single guitarist in my band and the average amount of patches I use on a show are around 68. Some are the same but have a smal change in compression volume or a reverb setting. The main thing is I need to switch very fast and a lot between clean tones overdriven and plain out heavy lead stuff. Sometimes just for a small accent between chords. So lot of switching 😅

maybe its my ears and brain, but there is something always off with the sound of Line6 products. Playing notes individually, or even a couple at a time, sounds great. But when you add a heavier gain or distortion and start playing all notes together, it just sounds mush. could well be my old brain trying comprehend though. but always sounds so much better when using analogue pedals, even if the amp is solid state. In fact I find that my old Marshall VS100 with analog pedals sound better and more consistant than my DSL. each to their own I guess.

I compared A Helix LT running to DAW to Helix Native in DAW. It sounds much the same once I got the levels running into Native right. In the end I chose neither. I mix and match plugins from a bunch of developers. I am really liking Softube's Marshall amp plugins, but there are a few that do a Plexi or JCM 800 really well. Line 6's stomp box models are quite good though, but I wish I could buy them individually rather than having to get Native. P.S. I also do the real amp into a load box and IRs thing (Freyette Power Station). To be honest, once the amp goes thru the load box and IRs in DAW the end result does not sound that different to amp plugins. It is different but not by much. Modelling is getting so good that my amps do not get used as much as they used to. That said the difference is far more noticeable when running the amp thru a speaker cab instead of IRs (modelling does not simulate that though, because it models the entire signal chain through to the mic and mixing desk, so what we hear is more like hearing the guitar in the studio control room or on record than playing live in front of an amp -- which is what I try to explain to folks who say modelling is not like their real amp). Edit. BTW. Lol. I forget the point of my comment, because I distracted myself with that load box thing. The point is that if your interface is good and you do not need the portability, switching, and I/O of a hardware version of Helix, then the plugin version will do. If the quality of the signal Native is receiving in DAW is as good as what the algorithms in a Helix gets, then the results will be much the same. That goes for all good plugins. Computers tend to have more processing power than a AxeFX or Helix too. Reaper rarely gets above 10% CPU usage no matter how many plugins I throw at it. Can not say that for hardware modellers that often hit their processor limits (whether using a Helix's SHARC or a PC/Apple processor, it does not affect sound quality -- sound quality is determined by stuff like the DACs and the design of the analog parts of the signal processing, while the processor determines how much signal can be processed and how fast etc).

@@johnnathancordy I’m not quite sure about the phase thing? Man, the new cab engine/feature is awesome!!! I love the possibility to go dual while panning them AND delay one of them to get something going in the direction of a double track / stereo-ish effect all WITHIN ONE cab block. (Though it's obviously still not the same as being played twice for real). And they did the same for IR's (pan/delay)! Like that, you don't need that delay block trick anymore and you get to use a dual (secondary) path (with pulled down effects) for other stuff, which is actually ideal. One thing though: do you know whether you can change the new "stock" cabs with snapshots? That was something IR's always had as an advantage... All in all, I think this cab/IR improvement alone already justifies this update. They made it better by giving more options AND it takes less DSP. Superb!

@jodecaesteker Жыл бұрын
@@chl3224 Cheers, yes, I understand and I did that too, but my question wasn't very clear: I meant changing the cab itself with snapshots, like going from a greenback to a V30... You could (and still can hopefully?) literally change the IR's themselves with snapshots, but not cabs.
@chl3224
@chl3224 Жыл бұрын
@@jodecaesteker I don't think you can change the cab model itself with snapshots. Snaps are there to change different parameters instantly but not the models. But I'm sure you could add 2 cab blocks and change their bypass state with snapshots though.
@jodecaesteker
@jodecaesteker Жыл бұрын
@@chl3224 Thanks, I thought so, but still asked, you never know. Still: even though the cab models themselves can't be changed with snapshots, there's more we can change now with mic position and angle! And I have the impression from Jason Sadite's video on the new cabs I might like the new ones better. Anyway, it's a really great update. Helix is, what, around 7 years old? You wouldn't tell IMHO. It's a great product, well thought through from the beginning. And it still looks amazing too, not dated in any way.

Soooo...one day later and I updated. Had a quick look at dual IR's, hoping to find the delay feature there too. I found it, but it seems to be set on BOTH IR's TOGETHER and not on each IR individually, like it is on the new dual cabs... There are 3 tabs for dual IR's, named IR A, IR B and "both". The "both" tab contains two parameters: mix and delay. I was hoping I could use delay on just one IR, like with the dual cabs, but no? What am I missing?

Why they decided to put high cut off in the cabs ??? It sounds a little bit harshy for me. However it's a huge update. 🔥

I was a long time Line6 customer that 8 months ago switched to the Fractal FM3. In 8 months, I've had two updates, and in a few weeks will have another. All these updates add lots of features. This is normal for Fractal. What you're just now getting in Line6 is standard stuff that Fractal has had for a while. That's why I finally switched. Also the reverbs and delays in Fractal is way better. Line6 tone was good but you had to work at it. Fractal's tone is more realistic and thicker and didn't take me much effort to dial it in. The defaults are very close.

nahhhhh. This is no doubt a fantastic update, but IRs do make a difference. York IRs are my go to because they simply just produce the tone I am looking for. And tone coming from a cab is NOT to be overlooked. It is, perhaps, the second greatest tone contributor to your set up, beyond playing style and amp type.
@jacobseal
@jacobseal Жыл бұрын
@@joshuabenton3785 I also use York and really love them. If this new update sounds anywhere close I will gladly ditch them and use the stock cabs. I have a lot of the York stuff and will still use it in my DAW.

@@jacobseal give it a go! I use Fractal now and even found that the Axe cabs are lacking sometimes. Creating a really good IR is an art in itself, and its generally one that companies like Fractal and Line 6 are good at, but not great at. I think that it's because that is not their speciality. Their speciality is tech and coding and ingenuity. But hey if they are good, they are good. Enough said.

As time goes on, the HX Stomp becomes a better and better deal. Not just because it sounds as good as it does, but because Line 6 keeps making more and more DSP optimizations, so you can get wayyyyyy more out of the Stomp than you could at launch.

I have spent last three weeks watching demos like this trying to convince myself, that Line 6 POD Go, HX Stomp, HX effects would make huge difference in the way I arrange my songs, but every time I switch to presentation of analogue guitar effects I feel instant relief. I bought Line 6 DL4 MkII and I think that just for now it is enough for my needs as digital effects go. I hope that modelers will get better some day. As I hoped in 2003. So far they didn't get...and all this "pod music" sounds like music for elevator. Lots of reverb, delays, and not much of a feeling.

The new 3.50 update says that the new cabs and IRs will use 66-80% less DSP. Yet on HX Stomp I cannot have a 1024 IR and a new Dual Cab in the same patch. Legacy Duals and IRs work fine, so how is it that the new Dual Cabs that "use less DSP" not work in tandem with an IR?? I feel like i have gained and lost function at the same time here.

I currently have a Headrush. Currently trying to decide between getting either Helix or FM3. I guess a question for anyone who played both (and, considering this recent update for Helix), out of the two - Helix and FM3, which one "feels" and responds more like the real thing? Most of the modelers are capable of replicating the sound. I'm trying to figure out which one behaves and feels similar to a real thing?
