Hey I live in Salisbury NC. I use to do custom ponds and water features and landscaping. I miss doing it for a living and for fun. I wish there was a place close to me in Salisbury so I could het back in to doing this.

Give a call around you may find someone close that is doing features.

Hey Benjamin, came across this video.👍👊 Love the concept & function of this skimmer that doesn't trap pond fish. Would love to start using them in Canada 🇨🇦. How are they for heavy tree leaf load ponds?? Clean out a lot I would imagine?🤔 Mr. Pond Digger inventer needs to do a Canadian contractor tour soon!🤪

I have not seen this type of skimmer but will try looking for one a bit smaller. This has no UV light? Cleaning it will be no problems and not much in time, that must be good.

When backfilling fill the skimmer with water about 1/4 to 1/2 way full. This way you know when it's completed and you go to fill it that settling won't change the level.

Yes this method is tried and true. This soil was heavy clay and quite saturated so it was packing quite well.

Your assistant looks like Eric Triplett the Pond Digger... that's his invention too. Would love to have one of those up in the great Canadian North... too costly $$$

Same here, would love to have one in Canada... Unable to get one.

Hi Benjamin, curious *how* you got around to retrofitting the skimmer: did you end up having to use more pond liner, and position it similar to how you would with roof shingles, to permit the additional distance, or was there already a lot of leftover from the original pond install? Thanks!

What's the GPH of the pump you are using for this project?
@bwturner19519 жыл бұрын
Very interesting skimmer. Nice install video. I want to retrofit a skimmer on my 600+ gallon pond with a Cal Pump 5200 submersible pump. We have about 6 - 8 feet of head from the bottom of our lower pond to the top of the water fall in our upper pond, which are connected by a gravity fed stream. So, our flow rate is approx 3250 - 2750 gph. Would this skimmer work for that application?

If you use a submersible pump now and later you get an external pump can you still you the same Helix skimmer
@benjamintimmermans18059 жыл бұрын
Yes you can still use the same skimmer for both setups.

Hi, Is there a pump at the bottom of the skimmer drawing the water in? And if so does the water go from the pump through the pipes and then up to the waterfall? I want to put one of these as a diy with my husband and want to be sure that I know more about it. Thank you so much!
@benjamintimmermans18059 жыл бұрын
Yes! This set up has a submersible pump and it does use the line plumbed to the back of the skimmer. This skimmer can be set up with external pumping as well.

May be a dumb question but here goes - recently bought a new house. At the end of the house there is a pond. As of yet there is no filter attached or any type system to clean the water. I want to make use of the pond moving forward but have never maintained a pond. So my question is; I assume i need to install a water filter? What will be the easiest Thanks.

where does the pump go - inside the skimmer? What was the hose that connected to the bottom of the skimmer - goes to waterfall?
@benjamintimmermans18059 жыл бұрын
Yes this is a submersible set up and yes the plumbing line returns to the waterfalls.

I build a cement koi pond but my vendor told me that I must provide a polycarbonate roof for my pond to prevent rain or acid rain which he said harmful for koi. Is it true?

No this is incorrect.

What happens if the water level drops?
@LiquidLandscapesInc6 жыл бұрын
If the water level drops below the weir opening then the pump will not be able to pump. Its typical to lose and inch to an inch and half per week on an average pond depending on location and time of year. If you are losing more than that there is a leak somewhere in the system.

A few questions: what's a helix? what's a bulkhead? what's the name of the round attachment you put on your drill? what's the purple stuff you put on the pipe? how far away from the pond does the skimmer need to be? how deep does the hollow you dug for the hose have to be? what is that leathery-looking stuff you cut away? (Just because it's a video doesn't mean you have to be largely non-verbal. Instead of the looping annoying music, could you use your time to explain everything you're doing and why? Or is this video for people who already know what they're doing? thank you!)

I would be more concerned with the lime leaching and outgassing of the concrete than any acid rain unless you live within earshot of Chernobyl in Russia.
