Or anyone for that matter if they actually are an AC pilot in this setting. Proven pretty easier when anyone someone does remember the nature of the setting, and the fact that majority of the AC pilots in said setting are integrated into literally any system they're hooked up to.

Michigan's arena codex entry says that he had put a bounty on his own head. If the company take this statement seriously in their after action reports, and I have no doubt that all the survivors of the battle will confirm it, listing his demise as "A death from misadventure", if only out of respect for Michigan, that would mean that the bounty would be split equally between all of his squad members, instead of being handed over to Raven.

Indeed, there's a fair amount of evidence that he sees himself as a stern but sincere father figure to his troops. After switching sides from Furlong to Balam post-Jupiter War, he even posted a bounty on himself with stipulations that half the payout would go to the men of his old fleet. That said, his “tough love” can veer into extremely abusive at his worst. It's heavily implied that this, along with his crude, simplistic tactics, is responsible for Balam's poor performance against Arquebus and the RLF. Despite this, he's shown to know even his non-Redgun troops by name, and if 621 fails their assassination attempt, he is heard calling for stretchers to help the wounded. A low bar, but still more care than any of the other corporate types show for their soldiers, especially non-elites.

Michigan knows the names of all MT pilots under his command, that's an impressive feat. Think of him as a Drill Sergeant who yells at you 24/7 but would gladly took a bullet for you. That says a lot about Balam's command structure. Unlike Snail who purposedly left his men to die so he can hog all the glory

I feel like Michigan cared more than he let on. In the tunnel sabotage mission he kind of sounded genuinely concerned. And even if he insults all his soldiers he remembers their names. Also really interested as to why g13 is cursed and some characters are remorseful/resentful to that number.

13 in general is an unlucky number and G13 is usually their spot for fresh recruits if the AC tester was anything to go by. You just happen to be the one that lives the longest with the “temporary” callsign.

This mission will always be my favorite because it really feels like you’re fighting an entire faction and you have to adapt to fighting one of the strongests acs while being shot at from every direction as your ammo will drain rapidly if you bring high caliber weapons it’s so hectic good preparation as well as clever rationing got me my first s rank just because i like doing this sortie for fun and seeing how builds fair against this mission

I don’t know why but I’m so obsessed with “Intercept the Redguns” from a narrative standpoint. At this point, Balam Industries is completely screwed now that Arquebus Corporation possesses the scavenged PCA tech to drive them off-world, pretty much all the Redguns have either deserted or were killed off and many of the lesser grunts and MTs were wiped out by the Watchpoint’s defenses and mass desertions occurring and all G1 Michigan has left of his forces are his most fanatical MT squadrons taking on a pointless mission of trying to take down Raven and hopelessly charge through NEPENTHES. But does he turn tail and run? No, he orders his soldiers to charge into battle against a single pilot of mass destruction (C4-621 Raven/V.IV Rusty) for a hopeless battle in the service of an uncaring corporation and dying senseless deaths on the battlefield, par for the course in the world of Armored Core. Sure, Michigan could’ve read the room and knew this to be a lost cause and joined the withdrawal from Rubicon 3 to face the wrath of Balam’s higher ups for his failure but he’ll be damned if he wasn’t going all in to “bag the big one” and take a shot at eliminating the Wall Climber, the Worm Killer and the only G13 who has lived this long. Even when he dies, does his MT squadron break and try to flee? No, they assert that Michigan gave it his all, stand their ground and continue to fight. If 621 dies, Michigan wastes no time calling in relief teams to the front to tend to the wounded. Even Handler Walter doesn’t sound ecstatic about killing Michigan off, simply telling 621 to get the job done. They must’ve known each other back on Jupiter when Walter was sent there as a boy before the Fires of Ibis erupted. I’m almost reminded of Stannis Baratheon and his ill-fated March to Winterfell from Game of Thrones (TV Series only! Book Stannis is very different and much more successful). Forces depleted from mass desertions and facing overwhelming odds with no hope of victory but goes down fighting. Goddamn, I so wish there was a route to side with Balam all the way, maybe a DLC or “AC6.1” game like For Answer and Verdict Day where we have more options to side with the other factions such as the PCA or BRANCH.

I haven't seen anyone else mention this, so I might as well. Walter's line for if Raven goes down after Michigan is so devastated because this is pretty much the worst possible outcome for him. He had planned to set 621 up with the Redguns after burning the Coral (the original plan was for Walter and Carla to fly the Xylem into the Convergence while 621 and the Redguns evacuate Rubicon), and it's made pretty obvious in his dialogue in the normal dam mission and the Ice Worm mission that he's old friends with Michigan and respects the guy a lot. He's never happy with Michigan dying, as you can tell from how depressed he sounds in the mission success dialogue, but if Michigan and 621 take each other down Walter has now lost two friends and pretty much any hope of seeing Overseer's plans through to the end, all because you were dumb enough to play to Snail's tune. It's easily the worst outcome for him personally of any mission in the game. Should have taken the RLF's offer. Shame that Rusty ruins Walter's plan even if you don't.

It's been a while now, but working from memory... It's never directly stated that Walter plans to leave 621 with the Redguns, but he does confirm with Michigan that if Walter disappears 621 can have a place with the Redguns, and he is also careful to confirm that Balam has prepared transportation off of Rubicon prior to the Ice Worm mission that leads to the Coral Convergence. There's also some dialogue in NG+ where he mentions 'leaving 621 with the Redguns' that implies they may have discussed the possibility in the past. Note that unlike Red, Michigan never offers 621 an official place as a Redgun or tries to get Raven to sign up, despite repeatedly praising the player's skill and expressing respect (like in this video). He wouldn't need to, if he'd already arranged to hire Raven after the Rubicon campaign.

Taking down Michigan was the lowest moment in the game… G1 is and will always be the most heroic of the AC Pilots on Rubicon. A leader who knows the men and women he leads. I think any of us with a good head on our shoulders would follow mean old Michigan into battle. I only did it fearing I’d otherwise have to fight Rusty in the alternate mission… like most FromSoft games, they do not relent.

Hello GreyCaliber! I was just wondering, is there any unique dialogue if you manage to beat every single enemy before Michigan and leave him for last (or is this even possible)? The "solo" part is what this is right, so no added dialogue I guess? You miss out on quite a bit of his post-death dialogue from the others then, huh? By the way, thank you so much for these videos, I and many others really appreciate getting to see all the dialogue permutations, it was sometimes hard to follow while playing but it's so interesting, well-written and important to the story to be able to listen to all these interactions!

What? Michigan literally remembers the names of all the soldiers he got, Even the MT pilots. After he defeats you the first thing he did was call for a relief team for the wounded soldiers. He even offers the soldiers a chance to retreat before they fight Raven. He even knows some of his soldiers have diaries.

it is kinda rough, a little bit to agressive, but with an intent. if you served in the military, you know that michigan is a good commander, chill even, also caring hell of a lot.
