I worked on this show as an assistant to Jim, the head wrangler. The horses got more breaks than the people. Hey Santee, I watched a behind the scenes video some time back, with Anson and the armorer for the show. They talked about & showed the Griz as well as the Remington. Anson said he preferred the Remington because of the balance and fit his hand better. I remember catching that scene you showed, using the '60 Army. Just a BTW: The most commonly worn hat in the "Wild West" say from the end of The Civil War until 1900 was not a "cowboy hat". It was the British Bowler Hat, or Derby as it was know in the USA. I was not expecting this. Nice work. One little discrepancy regarding the other Railroad company. During the building of the Transcontinental Railroad the railroad building from west to east was known as the Central Pacific. It wasn't until 1885 that the Southern Pacific which had been formed in 1865 leased the Central Pacific. This lease lasted until 1959 when the two companies were finally merged however by that point most of the rolling stock and locomotives were labeled for the Southern Pacific. Also in the first episode as far as I know Anson does wield a Griswold and Gunnison replica. The discrepancy doesn't happen until episodes 2 and 3. Either way great review. You summed up this series quite nicely.

Interesting the lengths they go to to get that authentic look. Some years ago I watched a documentary about people who worked in various wardrobe departments. They interviewed a woman who worked at a theatre and she had to make an authentic Elizabethan leather jacket. She spent some time researching Elizabethan jackets and finally made one which looked fantastic. But she had to make it look more lived in so amongst other things she dragged it around a graveled car park. Once it was cleaned up, it would have looked right covered in gravel, it had the authenticity she wanted.

I never could figure why they didn't just use a Griswold and Gunnison revolver in the show. There are plenty of reproductions out there. When I rode as a Confederate Cavalry officer and as Confederate Guerrilla, I carried one. I also carried the 1851 Colt Navy as well. Wish I still had my Griswold. Thanks Santee for another great video.

You're welcome. I think they wrote it that way, then couldn't find one...but never changed the lines.
@greghardy94762 жыл бұрын
As I understand they wrote themselves into a corner. They couldn’t find one and hoped no one would notice. Oops! I was looking for another G&G at the time and they were scarce as hens teeth. Wound up ‘making’ one from a brass framed Navy.

Very awesomely awesome cool video and review, I haven’t seen hell on wheels, but after I watched your review on it, I definitely want to watch it and get a lot of cool story ideas for my old West book. That actually closely ties in with another book I’m writing called the great battle for amarykhanta. That is a alternative history story of the American civil war . My main characters in that book, Arnamoun Sala-Al-Din who is a confederate soldier who lives in South Carolina with his wife Anamaria jordao And nine children on a plantation homestead

@@ArizonaGhostriders thanks, I’m actually working on doing final editing and publishing my two books on Wattpad, web novel, inkitt and Commaful . Then one day I hope my two books would be made into either a short film or tv series some day. The idea for the old West book came to me in a dream and I decided to write a book about . As for the civil war book, i got the idea from one of my what if questions that was what if the American civil war ended in a draw and neither side won. So I started writing a book on just that

Ok I have a question, Between this show and others. Is the term Trail Justice which I assume is vigilante justice, A common phrase used in the 19th century?
@ArizonaGhostriders4 жыл бұрын
The Pickens Sentinal in 1876 uses the term, so it was around. You see it in print more in the 1900s. BUT, it was used then.
@abigaildeeks83284 жыл бұрын
@@ArizonaGhostriders Yes it was used more in dime novels than in real life....

I never knew about the Hell on Wheels Town. British Navvies (Did the railroad builders have a specific name?) had travelling camps. The ususal reaction of the Fixed population was 'Lock up your daughters and get the dogs out!' Best wishes and Happy New Year from this side of the pond.
