I worked on this show as an assistant to Jim, the head wrangler. The horses got more breaks than the people. Anson Mount rode my personal horse for a shot (but when it switched to another camera he was riding another one. I honestly catch continuity errors all the time/should work on that aspect). Used Hazel in a couple of BG scenes too......

Good news is, there are other places to watch it. Most of them streaming services, though. You get enough of them and they are like having a cable bill!
@ryanmedina5090

It's not Netflix that is the problem its who owns the distribution rights. Each network has their own streaming service and they are pulling back all their popular shows to make them exclusive to their platform. Streaming has not turned into cable. You need 10 streaming services to see the shows you wanna watch and pay for a bunch you don't.

Hey Santee, I watched a behind the scenes video some time back, with Anson and the armorer for the show. They talked about & showed the Griz as well as the Remington. Anson said he preferred the Remington because of the balance and fit his hand better. I remember catching that scene you showed, using the '60 Army. Maybe the "extras" were playing with the Griswold out behind the set somewhere & they had to substitute :))

Just a BTW: The most commonly worn hat in the "Wild West" say from the end of The Civil War until 1900 was not a "cowboy hat". It was the British Bowler Hat, or Derby as it was know in the USA. As for the bit about "Do you believe in a higher power?" There is an old saying that "God made Man. And Samuel Colt made them equal" Having said that, all the best in the New Year to you all and your loved ones.

Thanks again Santee & Co. I had job with a local to South Carolina company that refurbished locomotives and RR cars . I was hired as a painter , but I learned how to rebuild locomotive brakes too . After completing a few contracts we ran out of jobs , so my employment lasted about seven months . We didn't refurb any steam locomotives , unfortunately. But we did rebuild an old diesel - electric into a replica of an Atchison , Topeka , and Santa Fe Super Chief . That is a nifty looking piece of rolling stock . I think there is still some pbotos of the rebuild on the website ' Motive Power and Equipment Solutions ' . Welp , see y'all down the trail .

I was not expecting this. Nice work. One little discrepancy regarding the other Railroad company. During the building of the Transcontinental Railroad the railroad building from west to east was known as the Central Pacific. It wasn't until 1885 that the Southern Pacific which had been formed in 1865 leased the Central Pacific. This lease lasted until 1959 when the two companies were finally merged however by that point most of the rolling stock and locomotives were labeled for the Southern Pacific. Also in the first episode as far as I know Anson does wield a Griswold and Gunnison replica. The discrepancy doesn't happen until episodes 2 and 3. Either way great review. You summed up this series quite nicely.

I couldn't take my eyes off this show. Some of the original track still remains but most of it has been replaced or the track was abandoned and moved. Here is Sacramento they have part of the original track still laid. The train museum has an original tie from Utah is here....cool to see. If you get a chance to go to the Train Museum in Sacramento CA I suggest you go.

The times he’s using a different gun are times his gun has been stolen or lost but also he gave that first griswald to Ferguson who keeps it through out the entire show Another reason I assume is because it’s a griswald and to abuse such a piece would be pretty not okay there aren’t very many left also sorry for any misspelling
@ArizonaGhostriders

Not abuse. There are Griswold's made by reproduction companies. They could have just used one of those.

Interesting the lengths they go to to get that authentic look. Some years ago I watched a documentary about people who worked in various wardrobe departments. They interviewed a woman who worked at a theatre and she had to make an authentic Elizabethan leather jacket. She spent some time researching Elizabethan jackets and finally made one which looked fantastic. But she had to make it look more lived in so amongst other things she dragged it around a graveled car park. Once it was cleaned up, it would have looked right covered in gravel, it had the authenticity she wanted.

I remember watching a behind the scenes short about the guns of Hell on Wheels, and it was almost hilarious how much the show’s armorer didn’t know what he was talking about. For some reason he thought the show took place in the 1880s, even though it’s supposed to be the late 1860s

I never could figure why they didn't just use a Griswold and Gunnison revolver in the show. There are plenty of reproductions out there. Very awesomely awesome cool video and review, I haven’t seen hell on wheels, but after I watched your review on it, I definitely want to watch it and get a lot of cool story ideas for my old West book. That actually closely ties in with another book I’m writing called the great battle for amarykhanta. That is a alternative history story of the American civil war . My main characters in that book, Arnamoun Sala-Al-Din who is a confederate soldier who lives in South Carolina with his wife Anamaria jordao And nine children on a plantation homestead

Then one day I hope my two books would be made into either a short film or tv series some day. The idea for the old West book came to me in a dream and I decided to write a book about . As for the civil war book, i got the idea from one of my what if questions that was what if the American civil war ended in a draw and neither side won. So I started writing a book on just that
