After you calibrate, it will also show the beam on your maps (if you're using garmin)... which includes any networked units as well... makes offshore fishing your waypoints a breeze

Almost did this video last year. I honestly, never use the compass. I'm just looking at the screen for fish regardless of their orientation to the earths magnetic field. I'm sure it's useful if one is using a Garmin chart. Good video and wishing you calibrated success!!! 😊😊

Didn't read all of the comments, so this might be in someone else's comment. The compass direction only matches the trolling motor direction(assuming transducer mounted on trolling motor shaft) when the boat is facing NORTH. You will notice that the compass will differ from trolling motor direction as you turn boat away from North. The cure for compass and trolling motor sync in all boat directions requires installation of a "Heading Sensor". That information is from Garmin support. Another $150 investment to get their equipment to work right.

This is great for night fishing. My arrow light on the trolling motor is super dim. It can be tough to orientate your cast. If calibrated correctly you always know which direction to cast in the dark.

Maybe that's why mine was acting the same way. I was worried thinking something was wrong with the transducer. Kept restarting the graph and hissing with it. Though I will say I don't ever remember seeing it say calibrate in my installation settings

Just a heads up every time you switch live scope direction, forward to prospective or to down view garmin recommendations are to recalibrate. One reason I don’t calibrate at all.

Not sure if it's kosher, but I calibrated my Minn Kota TM compass in a parking lot. I have a large flat empty parking lot near me and while my boat was on the trailer, I used the truck to move the boat in a circle. Suspect it'll work on Garmin LiveScope as well. I just gotta find out.

Now if you're boat is pointing north it will show the same direction on the screen , but if your boat is pointing south and your beam is pointing south it will be showing it's point behind you on the screen right?

Hey Rich, I noticed you used your trolling motor to move boat while calibrating when Garmin says if livescope is attached to trolling motor, deploy and turn off. So the way I understand it, if you have LVS 34 transducer installed on trolling motor shaft, do not use trolling motor to turn boat and instead use outboard motor. Is that correct?

If it's a brushless motor like the Garmin you can use it. The ultrex and similar motors can interfere with the compass during calibration

I've seen a few videos of different voltage and any thing over 12 volts you rely can't tell.. but I have heard guys using 18v up to 20 volts. The livescope says voltage is 12.5 to 30 something...

For the last 20 years Marine Electronics require “tweaking”. To maximize your Electronics, you may find “tweaking” multiple times per day critical depending on depth, bottom ….. Almost no different than changing rod/reels/lures depending on conditions.

um it says right there on the screen The trolling motor should be OFF and deployed IE you use the gas motor to make the turns.You dont use your TM to do this the magnetic interference from it could give bad results. See kids reading is fun The beam icon will not point in the direction of the transducer until you install a steady cast

@@HellaBass i think you are referring to barrel mount vrs TM shaft mount it wont matter the mag field from the TM could extend big enough to reach the shaft mount. If your shaft mount set high enough to not be effected then you have it set too high . Bottom line even if doing with the TM works why take the chance when its so much faster with the gas motor.

The compass does not work without buying a heading sensor. No way the Livescope knows which way the bow is pointing. Also the View should always be on manual and you choose for Forward, Down, or Perspective.
