Get so heavy hearted seeing him Sitting in that chair riddled with so many health issues. His talent was so immense. I for one think he was one of the best on the planet.

I was at this show, along with the other 2 shows in VA. Really wish those "guys" who filmed the shows in Blacksburg and the show right after that one would post something. Those other 2 shows are a hidden treasure.

I was at this show also. I was standing near the front to the left of Shawn. I got a chance to see him perform in 96 in Georgetown. Stringcheese opened for him. My best friends and I spoke with Shawn and Jonas for about 20 mins after the show. Very humble guys! I was wearing my Yngwie hat. They liked it haha Shawn Lane is one of a kind. His playing is something you didnt think a human could play. When I die I hope to hear Yngwie and Shawn playing at the pearly gates to greet me.
@JoseFuentes-fn3dl8 жыл бұрын
Yes I am. But I attended any show that was there. Unfortunately Shawn Lane wasnt that well known back then. In those shows people went to see String Cheese and in the Falls Church show people were were there because it was earth day. There were some "shred" fans there that had no idea who Shawn Lane was. I told them they will be shocked. But Im glad Shawn is getting more recognized today. Thats ironic how the great ones dont get noticed until after they pass on.

It's too bad you didn't see the 2 shows before this one, because they were way better. Not that this particular one wasn't awesome.

I do have a soundboard recording from Blacksburg (VA) on April 20, 2002 which is really amazing. I think there also is a recording from the day after in Floyd (VA) in circulation which I could not get hold of so far.

+Doktor Jekyll van Hyde The first one to do that exact line you mean? Because Jimi Hendrix, George Benson, and tons of other players have sang lines in unison with the guitar. Not to say anyone played or sounded like Shawn.
@FatPeaceman9 жыл бұрын
Greg Vinson never noticed that in hendrix' playing, any examples?
@Gregorypeckory9 жыл бұрын
Doktor Jekyll van Hyde Your comment made me realize I don't listen to enough Jimi these days, but I'm pretty he sings some unison lines with his guitar on Band of Gypsies; its a blues thing; he isn't the only blues artist to do it, but damn, it was killer!
@Gregorypeckory9 жыл бұрын
He did it on some other songs too; just can't remember which ones right off the top. George Benson is a real master of the technique; he really does some difficult jazz lines with it. But Shawn does it fantastically well too. For me, John Mclaughlin, Allan Holdsworth, and Shawn Lane are peers, and nobody else quite touches that level, at least in the electric fusion style. Hindustani slide master Debashish Bhattacharya is also one of the best guitarists I've ever heard, but its such different music that its kind of impossible to compare.

propylaen2001 that’s too bad. I watch all the greats from satriani to metheney, all with these wonderfully filmed shows, and I think what a shame it is that there aren’t more in circulation of him. The Paris dvd is a great gift, but there should have been more. Where did you get the footage?
@propylaen20015 жыл бұрын
@@Bullroarer-oj3sp, several years ago it was available on the AbstractLogix website but has long been taken down since. I have it on DVD-R in better quality, also an audience recording on CDR which is twice as long. You may want to contact me privately.
