It would be cool if the third film was reminiscent of the manga Devilman in mood. I think based on the second film, this is even logical, because Hellboy could become disillusioned with people. Liz's tragic death would serve as a catalyst for him to go into berserk mode and create the very apocalypse that would be predicted. But let’s say he didn’t completely destroy humanity, the spark of his humanity still prevailed at the last moment and was somehow able to reduce the damage caused. And now, hundreds of years later, in a post-apocaleptic world that outwardly resembles perhaps the world of Darksiders or Vampire Hunter D, the aged hero is trying to help and get along with the remains of humanity as much as possible, who mostly fear and/or hate him. But his measured existence is interrupted when he gets involved in a conflict between his offspring. Everything would be fine, but his twins, two of the most powerful beings on the planet, are demonstrably opposite in character and the outcome of their conflict will decide the fate of humanity.

I saw this movie in theaters opening weekend. I really liked Prince Nuada as the Villian,but the idea of Hellboy being the Harbinger of the Apocalypse and teasing him having Twin boys weas such a great ending to me. I waited for over a decade until they decided to do a completely unnecessary Reboot with 2018's Hellboy and after that i refused to support anything related to Hellboy until they make Hellboy 3. The fact that the studios wouldnt give Del toro the Budget to finish off the series and just decided to reboot it is such an unforgivable mistake. Especially after Del Toro won both a Best Director Oscar and a Best animated Feature Oscar after 2018's Hellboy came out and bombed.

There is a basic reason Hellboy 3 never happened Mike Mignola was asked about it during one FanExpo: “The first film is very much a collaboration between the two of us,” continued Mignola. “The second one we sat down and tried to do an adaptation of the comics. Within an hour it became clear that he had changed the character so much from the comics that we couldn’t adapt any comic stories. So the first film is very much a collaboration. The second film is very much Guillermo. There was a moment in filming the second film where I said ‘Hellboy wouldn’t do that,’ and Del Toro said, ‘This isn’t your Hellboy, it’s my Hellboy.’ So, you grow a thicker skin and you deal with it. It is what it is.” If I recall correctly, the pair fell out to the point neither was speaking to each other. This killed any hope of a Hellboy 3. Sadly, the reboot killed any hope of seeing my favourite comic hero back on the silver screen. It is a shame to see two such talented creatives unable to reach common ground. I have to congratulate Luke Goss on his portrayal of Prince Nuada, his performance adds a lot of emotion and nuance to what could so very easily have been your usual scenery chewing villain.
@DocuzanQuitomos
@DocuzanQuitomos 2 ай бұрын
Yep, basically Del Toro wanted to take the story in his way, while the comics had evolved in a completely different direction... Both are wonderful visions, sadly they just don't intersect (Del Toro has a bit of a positive spin, even in the darker themes he takes) and Mignola never accepted to let this particular iteration to close before doing something else. Jumping to adapt the darker/gorier second half of the comic may not have been a wise move, since it's not the most accesible part, thinking of general audiences (for a franchise... maybe the short stories would fair better than the "larger than life" arch of the entire story). Still, there will be an adaptation of The Crooked Man as a second reboot (why exactly that one... no idea), let's see how it works.

@@DocuzanQuitomos They are both creators of highly detailed, stylised worlds. I admire both of them. There’s a wonderful animatic on KZbin of the Crooked Man. I hope the new project has legs and we all get to enjoy it on the big screen. Thanks for your comment 👍

You guys have to do Bates Motel TV series. Most underrated show of all time and my #2 show of all time next to LOST. Bates has it all including tons of heart to go with the creepiness/horror. Only 50 episodes total over 5 seasons. Richard from LOST plays the sheriff here and the legendary Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore the 2 leads.

"So Hellboy is God-Royalty" Not "godly", but he is royalty on both sides of his family. He is the son of one of the rightful heirs to the throne of Hell (not exactly Lucifer, but I guess they wanted to simplify the concept). From her mother's side (a bit of his history that wasn't adapted in this iteration), he is a direct descendant from King Arthur, so he also is rightful heir to the throne of England. "He should have tried the challenge sooner / Are there really indestructible things?" While the film has some problems with decision making (a testament of the production problems behind it), it's not that incredible he didn't do it right away: as Johan Krauss indicated in their brief fight, Hellboy's particular way of solving things (punch first, think later) made him think the army could be destroyed. Pretty much ignoring that, if magic is involved, there really can be "indestructible" things (as many magic tales warn: it's unwise to take literally all magical statements you find, look for the fine print and the alternative meanings). "Johann Krauss spirit" While spirits can be, eventually, dissipated through different means, Krauss was a medium that was used to detach his spirit from his body, prior to the destruction of his body. His particular training allows him to stay "in one piece" for long periods of time, rather than just dissipating into the air. The film hints a different origin story for Krauss, than in the comics; but in the comics he is the only survivor of a seance that got horribly wrong when a supernatural inciden destroyed the bodies of all the people involved (Krauss survived precisely for being more trained in preserving his spirit in one piece, but he needs a containment suit to interact with the physical world in a more "human" way). "The apocalypse/Tell them they have the wrong guy" Nope, they don't have the wrong guy. While Rasputin's plot was thwarted, it's Hellboy's destiny to bring the apocalypse to the world (one way or the other). The outcome of that is only thing yet undecided (the destruction of all life, except of some selected supernatural creatures; or a reset button to humanity and all creatures living on earth). How exactly Del Toro would have tackled this theme was (mostly) the general plot of the third film; but by the point Mignola and Del Toro's views of the character drifted apart, Mignola had added more dark elements to the plot about Hellboy's role in the apocalypse (that were later explored in the reboot). The whole "unavoidable end of days" draws inspiration from the norse version of apocalypse: Ragnarok; in norse mythology, gods know the fate that awaaits them when the days reach their end (some will be killed, some will survive, and all creation is set to end in the current form we known today, and there is no way to stop or avoid that: it's the natural order of thing that all things that begin, must end). Unfortunately, general audiences don't vibe well with the idea that destiny is unavoidable (specially if it means the destruction of all of us XD). Nice reaction, see you in the next one.

Always preferred the first movie since i liked the Eldritch horror theme over the fantasy theme of the second. But the second is a far better movie production wise if just a tad longer than it needs to be (and i like long movies). Krauss can die, I believe in the comics his suit stops him from dissipating into nothing (hes basically ectoplasm... and that stuff isn't supposed to exist in the physical world)... so him shrugging it off and walking away was a little weird. He became that way after an extreme supernatural episode that basically vaporized his body and a lot of other people leaving only him, his spirit behind. Pitty they didnt make a third, since Del Torro would have made it work... and there was a number of comic storylines they could have drawn from.
