Just shows you how skilled the Del Toro versions were. Moment the voiceover started you could tell it wasnt going to go well. Underneath it could have been an interesting story, but felt like a joke and lacked a lot of depth. I think it benefited from the good will and character development established in the first two and without them it would be treated even more harshly. Script just wasnt ready. Shame as I liked the hellboy character. McShane is a really good actor, but Hurt really owned that part.
@acerock0135 жыл бұрын
i have loved Hellboy for a long time. The GDT films were good, not great, and i was excited for this revision since Neil Marshall is a great director and it seemed like Mignola was very involved in the development. Then I saw the trailer and got very concerned. Then I saw the film, and I nearly walked out half way through. This soulless trudging through a mismashed mess of various elements of the comicbook just doesn't work on any level. I get that they wanted to reboot the film but not go back and rehash The Seed of Darkness arc, going with a later story like The Wild Hunt makes for an entirely odd choice though. This is supposed to be a "younger and less experienced" HB, but it takes place over 60 years since HB has been on Earth and he's been a member of BPRD and BPRD has already since moved from Connecticut to Colorado and major characters who should be there are not and characters who are there shouldn't be. Meanwhile Ian McShane as Professor Broom isn't the kindly academic who is doing his level best to raise a demon into a good man and the parrallel of Victor Frankstein and his Monster is totally devoid as well as any onscreen chemistry between Harbour and McShane...and Daivd Harbour seems to be doing his level best impression of Ron Perlman rather than bringing something new or different to HB. Add in useless gore and swearing for the sake of an R-Rating and fair to middling CGI and you have a string of disconnected vignettes that are edited into one long non-sequitur highlighted by goofy jokes, weird music choices for interludes and exposition dumps. If this film wanted to be so different than GDT's Hellboy then why are they starting off with the same style of narrated introduction by Professor Broom? This film thoroughly defeated me and i left the theater despairing that they may try to make a sequel to this Hellboy. They would have been so much better served if they just acknowledged the first two films and made this the third and followed the Wild Hunt as the comicbooks do, have David Harbour do his HB as he wanders the Earth looking for his place in it after having left the BPRD and do battle with Koschei the Deathless and Baba Yaga and set up the sequel to bring about his battle with Nimue. Or don't and just leave the franchise die and stop trying to force Hellboy into being something it isn't: a thrill-a-minute summer blockbuster rather than a moody and creepy weird re-imagining of gothic horror and obscure folklore with complicated anti-heroes. If they ever try again they should do a BPRD series on Netflix or Amazon with HB as a recurring character

Just wasted 25mins of my life on the start of this as it was on Netflix. When the CGI, and FX, particularly the makeup for HellBoy do not look as good as the original 2004 version you got to ask why? That aside, it’s a frickin hot mess. Bloody awful. Think Resident Evil but without the story, budget or direction and that’s the level of this tripe. Perlman was well suited to the role. And Del Toro is a film maker. Together they did HellBoy well, just remember those.

Second,Neil Marshall made ''Dog Soldiers'' and ''The Descent'', 2 fantastic low-budget horror movies.The first is one of the best modern werewolf movies and the second is a great,claustophobic survival horror,but here he screwed up. Last but not least,they decided to adapt the last big story-arc from the comics,for a reboot,which was a retarded idea. Two of the main complaints are the language and the gore - neither of which are as prevalent as being made out - this film is only rated a 15 in the UK! This is an action film which doesn't pretend to be anything other than that. 3/5. And to everyone saying this is the worst film in ages, how infrequently do you go to the cinema?
