They didn’t fire Darvin Ham because he was the scapegoat. They fired him because he was obviously out coached by every top head coach they went up against. Different lineups every night, no adjustments, saving timeouts, etc …
@-13eNnY-2 ай бұрын
Only casuals who barely watched the Lakers would say that Ham was a good coach last season. Didn't try to build continuity at all despite that being the major focus throughout that season. Incomprehensible lineups that got repeated runs despite all of the numbers saying that they did not work. Would play minimum guys over guys making multiple times that for no apparent reason. Frequently did not call timeouts until he gave up a 10+ point run to the other team. Stated that he saved timeouts to give LeBron rest time in crunch time but would frequently end the game with multiple timeouts left unused. When he did call timeouts and we could hear what he was saying, most of what he said was just motivational bs instead of actual plays or analysis of the game. Saying that the Lakers used a good coach in Ham as a scapegoat is just completely disingenuous like how some basketball show hosts and coaches tried to argue. Ham wasn't the only issue but he was not helping the team win, no matter how nicely you wanted to put it. The most apt and most positive description for him would've been that he wasn't the worst coach in the NBA last season. To be fair, there were a handful or two that were worse. Did better than Monty Williams last season.

I think most people didn't like Ham, if anything they wondered why Vogel was fired for him
@-13eNnY-2 ай бұрын
@@troylee4196 Vogel was understandably fired because he had basically no offensive schemes whatsoever, and the Lakers no longer had the personnel to be an elite defense after they blew up most of the team and traded for Westbrook. Ham was very different from Vogel and was decent enough at first. He went crazy last year though and completely lost the locker room. Probably got overly confident and tried to prove himself too much after getting to the WCF and getting a contract extension.

@Knightmare02592 ай бұрын
The biggest issue with Ham's Lakers run was the results based logic being inconsistent. Experimenting with line-ups is great in spurts but he spent about 65/82 games trying to solve a puzzle that everyone could already see. They underperformed in the regular season and ended with a play-in and a 1st round against their worst matchup.

He arguably lost the lakers like 20 games last season because he refused to call timeouts in key situations and lost a close games with 2 timeouts still and unused challenges. He kept them like he got paid more on how many timeouts he kept at the end of the game. The last game between the clippers and lakers the clippers were up by 15 and the lakers brought it back to down 3 and there was only 5 minutes left and wanna know the next timeout Darvin called? When there was 1 minute left to put in garbage time players because the clippers made a 14-2 run to bring their lead back to up 15. And they had 2 timeouts and unused challenge. Thats when i knew Darvins coaching was actually hurting this team more than the others teams players could ever hurt the lakers.

Finally a video for all the Darvin sympathizers and Lebron haters saying that it’s Lebrons fault, not Darvin.
@uaushaiaosao93082 ай бұрын
Lebron haters are little cockroaches. All 3 teams he has been on would always get hated on because those cockroaches would come in to hate for no reason other than saying that they don't think he is as great as Kobrick or Jorbum.😂😂
@resolve062 ай бұрын
It doesn’t even take a LeBron hater. Ham wasn’t perfect but yall Lebron dickriders are always over the top. You can die on that hill lol
@yc99official952 ай бұрын
while i think lebron does deserve *some* criticism for influencing front-office decisions that don't age well (such as getting wade and d-rose for the cavs and blowing up that team mid-season, and the russ trade that blew up more than half of what was left of the 2020 championship season), i think this season wasn't necessarily his fault, sure, he had some mistakes against the nuggets, but darvin ham's bad decision making was the main catalyst

@@yc99official95It’s crazy how much misinformation is out there. Lebron literally was pissed that the cavs ended up trading kyrie that year, cause he thought he could convince kyrie to stay. Drose and wade were free agents and signed for minimum contracts literally non factors. And that Russ trade was robs way of making up for the mishandling of the Demar Derozan signing

The WCF run was IN SPITE of Hams coaching and I will die on that hill. If youre a Laker fan that isnt casual, youll remember Twitter had to bully this man to play Lonnie Walker against the Dubs in the playoffs.. and look what happened when he finally did 🙄

Great video! I feel like most non-Lakers fans never really understood the frustration with Darvin Ham all season and thought that firing him was just a misdirected "scapegoat" situation for their lack of success. Yes, a lot of it was health/personel issues and an undesirable First Round matchup. However, if you followed the Lakers, there's no question that Darvin regularly screwed the pooch with lineups. I mean, starting 5 Power Forwards? What a joke! Not to mention offending your starters, throwing them off their game/rhythms, and botching any semblance of continuity. And, once you lose the (respect of) the locker room, you've done irreparable damage to the team's morale, their groove, etc., and there's just no coming back from that. Hopefully, (things with) JJ will be much better. I believe they will. Los Angeles Lakers 2025 NBA World Champions! Let's Go!

amazing breakdown, not following the lakers debacle closely and just laughing at their inability to do anything well after the play-in tourney, this has shown me a whole-ass controversy i was not aware of. we knew ham sucked, but at least I didn't know that this was the way he sucked THE MOST, and its all because of ego and wanting to prove the media wrong....

Prince isn’t a necessarily bad player. He’s good. Just not a starter. It was all obvious to everyone watching the games

He was the downfall of that team!!!! He had no idea what was going on. JJ or not any coach would’ve been an upgrade.

Darvin did well his first year and started thinking he was Prime Greg Popovich. He has potential as a coach but he was atrocious all around last season, from the lineup bullshit, to offensive strategy, to timeout management. No disrespect to Taurean Prince, he played well. Darvin just messed up the rotation by overthinking it

my favourite darwin ham moments were when he wrote on the clip board "contest without fouling" and his speech "go hard on them dudes, everybody tries to play the right way, salute". Dude was just a fan with front seat tickets. Cant wait how that thing in Mil with him and Doc Rivers turns out.

Overthinking? More like NOT thinking at all. Multiple players commented about having no plans/schemss, and not being prepared for opponents. Lineups were not based on data but just randomness
@adamegan83522 ай бұрын
Outside of all the goofy lineup decisions, pretty much every instance when it got late in close games we looked like we were not running any plays. The last 3-4 minutes of every game it was just trusting in Bron and AD’s IQ to get it done. Drove me crazy, that’s just not sustainable in the playoffs against the leagues best teams.

It's astounding watching other NBA coaches and former players defend Darvin Ham's accomplishments. He wasn't fired because of his accidental successes, he was fired because he made the Lakers go 5 -17 for no reason after the In-season tournament win and nearly sank their playoff hopes again. That doesn't just get memoryholed in the moment.
@jakehood74632 ай бұрын
He wasn't overthinking. He had strong biases and tried to ignore the empirical evidence.

This video has made me realize darvin ham was worse than I realized it’s jarring that ham made a team that 100% has the talent and ability to contend look like a team that can’t play
@cmartinez47272 ай бұрын
First three games of the laker 2024 season (3-0 against quality teams) pretty much shows how bad of a coach ham was. He had no system, and had no clue how to adjust and strategize. Reddick is showing what a difference an actual system does when used with a team with talent.
@JasonBrendan-td4qb2 ай бұрын
Seen some shit last year in the media that I’ve never seen before. Intentional gaslighting from the media and coaches of other teams who were probably laughing behind closed doors and hoping and praying that darvin kept his job so LeBron and the lakers could continue struggling. It was on the verge of being a conspiracy.

Love the video. Nailed it on the head. I think Ham had the pressure of the LA spotlight on him and he crumbled under it, probably why he’s now gone back to Milwaukee, where he was comfortable and out of the spotlight. Dropped a sub, can’t wait to see what content you bring us thru the season!
