I have already adopted the mentality of “I will continue to use it until I am good” and I don’t even care if that never happens. Fun fact, the gun hasn't seen any changes sense it was leaked back when Diligence was 120 and DCS was 140. Thus, this was suppose to be THE hardest hitting Marksman rifle in the game. there's no reason for it not to keep that title.

@@sadfrog5787 it is a bolt action rifle. You charge the bolt back to changer one bullet. Pulling the trigger releases the hammer and strikes the pin of the bullet casing, firing the bullet. This happens because the striking action causes a spark to ignite the gun powder which is a propellent. This sends the bullet down the barrel and out to the target. Pulling the bolt back will eject the spent casing and load another bullet into the chamber.

It could be fun if they made a post about the gun being erroneously issued with ceremonial rounds instead of rounds designed for combat. (because of the implications that super earth is just shooting live rounds during ceremonies)

@@cubemage3336 A "ceremonial weapon" based on the M1903 Springfield, which shoots 30-06 and can shoot modern, hotter loads than they commonly used in the time the rifles were in service, as long as you don't have one of the early rifles that had brittle receivers. It being a ceremonial weapon doesn't mean it can't kill. M14s are also "ceremonial weapons", but they're still in service, and are finally being used to fight Russians in Ukraine like they were originally designed to do.

The fact that it does sit between the diigence and counter sniper does show that AH tried to make it not completely terrible, but then it just sits in a weird place. All lore text about it is about how it's like 300 years old and it's just a ceremonial gun so it makes sense that it's bad, but then they made it kinda good in certain ways just to be let down in others, so they made a gun that's *almost* usable.

Iirc it was leaked before the patch and it was almost fully done minus some sfx so it was made well before the buffs but I do agree it needs to at least do some stagger or something to compensate

It's not meant to be a serious weapon. Same as in original helldivers. Useful as an early game marksman rifle. Personally I love it and use it a lot but wouldn't take it into the hardest difficulties.

Give it higher damage, and the ability to load a whole clip when the gun is empty. I think even then the other marksman rifles would be superior, but I would consider taking it againt bots. EDIT: On a side note, I don't want this thing to be GOOD, just fun. The fact that it's a bolt action rifle is reason enough for it to exist. It doesn't need to outshine the other rifles in any way.

Im going to state clearly that the Constitution Rifle is the thing that has put HD2 on the precipice of a great change. There has been a slightly ignored, but growingly obvious, problem with the game... its community is split in 2. Those who enjoyed HD1 were of a different type (objectively, not in any "holier than thou" way) to that of HD2. HD2 managed to get loads of new players via the vibe the game gave (the intro to HD1 vs HD2 in itself shows this the most obviously imho). But those new players are not of the same mindset as a lot of the HD1 players / people who came here to play the version of HD2 the devs "originally" tried to make before this popularity spike. These players have constantly been in a place where they fundamentally cannot understand the mindset of the other side. The Constitution Rifle encapsulates that problem in a very specific way, that is best summed up with 2 sentiments ive seen so far: - "Why can't people just accept its a meme weapon and is for lore / reference to the first game" - "Why does it have to be a meme weapon? I don't want to dive with guns "ironically", and I doubt anyone wants to". I am on neither side of this divide, I look at it and respect both aspects of the community have a good point. But, in my opinion, I think whatever AH do with the Constitution will decide which side of the community AH wishes to accommodate for / listen to going forward. Or rather, I believe they have 3 options: - Do not buff the Constitution (And send a firm message of "Not everything needs to be viable, this is literally a lore / meme weapon") - Buff the Constitution (and hence sending a firm message of "no meme or funni items, it needs to be viable") OR - Do the spicy "please both and realise you have 2 sides of the community" option of making a new weapon that is like the "Constitution MKII" that is actually designed to be viable, hence accommodating the (very valid) complaints of the "Meme weapons that are not viable are dumb" crowd, and the "Its okay to have dumb Meme weapons / items, if it is for lore / reference reasons" crowd. The rifle itself? I do not care either way. A buff would be nice, but I went into a diff 7 mission last night and came out with 180 melee kills, im content lmao. But the aftermath of whatever decision AH makes? I feel will have much more wide spread effects than just the rifle...

yeah i think a non-ceremonial MKII version with a suppressor would be a good 3rd option. i think you are also missing the crowd that likes it for **ultimate** bragging rights or for making funny clips where they bayonet a tank to death and win. But that's probably not as significant part of the playerbase.

In HD1 the constitution wasn't a complete meme. You could reload after every shot and maintain steady damage against enemies. It could 1-2 all the basic enemies. The HD2 version feels much slower than the original and it's harder to aim in 1st/3rd person compared to a top down shooter. If they made the reload speed better I could see this being less of a meme.

I ran this on difficulty 5 with friends against the bots and it was a lot of fun. We limited our other weapons and stratagems to things that fit a WWII vibe. No lasers, bubble shields, or electric weapons. It was a ton of fun. I ran it with EATs so that I could use the supply backpack in order to keep myself healed up. It was cool to role play like that.

Something to note for the scout striders it's like 3 shots to kill if you shoot them just below where the front armor is. The counter sniper also does this but it is semi auto so there really is no point in this gun

I find it satisfying to use, defeating superior enemies with a humble bolt action rifle. If you can work around its limitations, it can be great. It can one-two shot stalkers to the head. I have taken this gun on Difficulty 8 and 9 missions with no issues. It is a bolt action rifle in a universe with space guns. Don't expect miracles from this thing.

No it's a conventional firearm in a game full of conventional firearms, it's mainly the caliber of the round a that dictates the power. The rifle the constitution is based on uses the .30-06 which is popular for big game hunting today.

Surely they should just give the Constitution a clip reload, much like they did with the Senator in the past - I feel like being able to reload a whole clip after empty would be a great adjustment, and would allow you to hold your ground a little better, outputting more DPS, especially against the bugs, where there are just too many enemies to *constitute* bringing a weapon chambered for 6 rounds, with such a relatively slow reload speed. Would love to see such a unique weapon be more viable.

Purifier is my new main primary. It's too good on both fronts. It 5 shots impaliers in the weak spot, charger butt's, and it even takes out gunships. It fires as fast as u can pull the trigger and has a decent reload speed. Really opens up build potential.

I'm actually quite liking it. it has to fill a niche role in your loadout. against bugs, the problem normally with using the arc throwing is its bad at dealing with bugs in your face because of the charge time and how often it fails to lock onto close in targets. I've been using this to augment it and deal with those close in bugs with a decent amount of burst with its shot, and the great melee with stagger effect. arc thrower stun grenades grenade pistol constitution jump pack gas strike eagle rockets

I think something important to remember is that this weapon going forward will be given to all lvl 1 new Helldivers and I believe that will help the new player experience along the lines if anything. Personally, i think its really fun to use. My one request to be able to sprint then hold melee button for a melee bayonet charge 🎉 Like Gears.

Man, even in HD1, it was still passable, like you wouldn't bring it for a Helldive, but it's primary limitation is being slow with a limited mag capacity. But my problem with it is that it's a full power cartridge, so it SHOULD hit like a truck and just be hard to use. Realistically it should hit WAY harder than the countersniper, definitely keep it as medium pen, and all of its other limitations (maybe zoom in the irons a bit, hard as fk to see on ultrawide), and it would still be a meme weapon, but could at least be useful.

I dive all the time on lvl 10 dives with the rifle and I have non PROBLEMS whatsoever with the bugs but against bots at that lvl kinda hard , the rifle would be good if it got 1. - scope 2 - Stripper Clip = faster reload 3 - same amount of damage as the revolver. That’s my suggestion

A good take I saw on Reddit was that, as well as being a meme gun, the constitution is also a challenge gun. A purposeful handicap. To try and push yourself to actually succeed with it - which I agree with. The only change I genuinely think it needs is a stripper clip for a speed reload when the magazine is fully empty, same as the senator. That'd make it way more versatile. Perhaps a slight damage bump to 190 or 200 but I don't think that's entirely necessary

If this were a single-player game, you'd have a point. Many are getting kicked in lobbies for choosing it. Adding content to a game like this to be purposely bad, wouldn't make sense, especially when for a greater part of the game's history it has had a problem with many weapons being terrible picks and forever stay in the armory. People aren't complaining about 'getting free stuff', we still all bought the game with real money and the expectation that the devs will be somewhat competent.

Dude, I love this gun so much. It’s still performs good in impossible. I’m not sure about Hell dive though. but I love seeing 100+ melee kills on my cards.probably needs to do at least 20 more damage per shot or heavy armor penetration

Two changes that I think would fix this gun are either: 1.) Make the gun "Heavy" penetration. Which would balance out the lower firing rate/reload, but make it something (similar to the revolver) where you could kill enemies like Chargers/Hulks if you are persistent, but not overpowered/effective enough to really make it a replacement for Stratagems or Support Weapons. Plus it would at least allow you to at least do SOME damage to enemies regardless of where you hit them. As the 'meh' damage and brutally slow fire/reload rate make every missed or deflected shot feel punishing. 2.) Change the reload to a clip instead of single bullets, and increase damage, but don't touch armour penetration. This would make it still viable as a high-power Marksmen rifle, but with a lack of scope and high recoil it is not gonna make the other DMRs redundant. Then you can still get that sense of having a strong single-shot rifle for regular enemies, but it is more of a medium range gun, and as I said before, missed/deflected shots feel less punishing to the player since in this scenario you're reloading quicker, and at least medium/light armoured enemies will actually die to your weapon in 1-2 shots. Generally I don't think any primary weapons need to be 'perfect' in all categories/stats. But one of the above changes could at least bring it closer to at least being viable/fun.

The rifle is actually based on the Springfield 1903. Chambered in 30-06 with 24 inches long barrel. I have no idea why it doesn't have a Heavy AP...

It is meant to be kind of lackluster. In lore, every citizen gets this rifle at the age of 16 to help promote and encourage military enlistment. It is based on an Old Earth Rifle the M1903 Springfield so we are using a massively obsolete rifle from before World War I so the R-2124 Constitution is meant to be kind of bad and always has been. This gun is basically based on a weapons platform that is around 280 years old it is a free rifle you would have gotten when you were 16 so honestly it does what it is meant to do. I would like a Higher Quality Model personally but for what it is and is meant to be it did its job.

The build myself and some buddies were running was the gas strategems and nades with the gas backpack. You gas up the bugs and bayonet charge in, obviously wearing gas protective gear, the bugs don't know where you are or what to hit. I easily get a 30 to 40 kill streak in melee

There's something so fun about this gun when you see it one tap an enemy from afar, or you stab an impaler to death(about 8-10 stabs in the leg if you're curious), or just feel like difficulty 10 needs to be just a bit harder. The gun satisfying to use and make work. I know a lot of people are disappointed which is fair but my favorite thing about games is taking stuff that's underappreciated or considered "bad" and making them work even in the worst scenarios and this gun is just that. If they do buff the gun, I hope its just something stupid like increased melee dmg or you get extra medals for using it to hunt big game.

Perhaps the next update allows you to load specialize rounds? Like. Full metal jacket round for armor peircing, or incinerary rounds? Even paint rounds to track down Stalkers? Though, I do have an idea with those buffs will maybe decrease ammo? Such as four rounds for one more in the chamber? Or when you reload an empty rifle, you use stripper clips for faster reload.

I don’t think you should be listening to the guy. The gun requires a lot of accuracy and knowing when to switch to melee and I just watched him miss seven or eight shots against the bileTitan and run away from two scavengers to reload😂.

Thanks for the thorough review. In part 1, the Constitution was a challenge weapon and a pain to use, however, I witnessed many top level players manage encounters between firing, reloading and melee attacks with spinning flair. For me, It fell short in HD1 because preventing scouts from summoning was impossible. I believe it exists in part 2 for the same challenge type players. I'm a Diligence main/bot main, and this thing was a pain but also operates within the firearm realism within the game. That, I appreciate. The round damage is basically a 30 caliber and would be like a painfully slow single shot from the machine gun and Diligence, through iron sights. In months past, I would warm up on the base level Diligence, then switch to the CS at higher difficulties. I'll now play my 1st game of warm-up on this relic. My only regret for this rifle is it's not a more powerful 30 caliber, like the 30-06 - compared to the .308/762x51 NATO that the Diligence emulates. I've fired these rifle types IRL and I own the Diligence version (SCAR17). Finally, I wish they had better sound design for the Constitution. The Eruptor had a touch-up crack sound added later. The Constitution at least needs this.

in HD1 it had 3 primary strengths: 1. perfect accuracy and best sniper class damage(unless you counted upgraded guns, then it's the worst in the sniper class since you can't upgrade the HD1 constitution besides adding a bayonet) 2. chainfire-reloads like the pump action shotguns 3. melee-assisted movement tech nr.1 could be helped with changing the bolt charging animation to make the 1st person iron sights less obstructive. nr.2 can be easily implemented with a change to the reload. nr.3 can't really translate well into HD2 without some animation jank. the HD1 constitution was only viable if you killed all the alarm scouts before they called in backup but in HD2 there are waaay more units that can raise an alarm. i think it'd be best if we got a separate non-ceremonial bolt-action built on the same platform with more damage that has a suppressor attached.

agree, if people love the bolt action rifle, DEVs could come up with 2 more version. plasma version (for AOE purposes) and heavy hitter actual combat version. it not a good gun but it fun to use, it not meant for combat. people need to stop justify it need huge buff. it's free gift, if this is EA, they will force you to buy it, it gonna suck and you will love it.

Making it heavy penetration and upping damage would definitely balance it out. As pointed out by other commenters here, the stats seem to be pre-buff numbers compared to the other sniper rifles, so I think it would need those buffs to balance it out. Am I still running it? Hell yes. I love fighting with it, makes the game so much fun and exciting to have to load individual rounds while chased by a horde of bugs or taking cover from advancing robots. Paired with a rocket launcher and grenade launcher for objectives (bug holes) and it makes it a very fun gun

I don't know about you, but as soon as this was equipped all my armor turned to WW1 era and I was running from trench to trench impaling bots on the bayonet and spilling oil! This thing is amazing, but you need to adapt to it, just imagine you're in the Argonne back in the day and start sprinting when you hear the whistle.

After testing against termanids, i will highly recomend that if anyone reading this wants to use it, use it against the bots not the bugs. This gun is better for precisivley taking down units rather than horde clear which is much more viable for bot stratageys Edit: if i would make this gun better i would increase damage to between 200-230 and i would add disposable magazines like the senator has for faster reload on an empty chamber

The best for it is to make it have just a little more stagger on the shots and the bayonet, have more damage and durable damage and then just a stripper clip and it would be perfectly viable

i was expecting a classic bolt action rifle to be in the game for all this time. I absolutely love the estetic and impact that gun gives when shooting it, but of course you can't fight the numbers when stats are so low. I do have hope it will be buffed in the nearest future tho, and if it does, it may become my favorite weapon of the game

5:54 To be fair, I have shot regular Trooper bots point blank with the Senator before and had them tank a whole hit and keep fighting. And this is after the patch that made them capable of 3-tapping Hulks. I'm not sure if its just something funky with the angle of the shots or with the bot health pools or hitboxes or something but I've witnessed it happen firsthand several times in the last week alone with the Big Iron so it doesn't surprise me in the least bit that it can happen with the new boltie.

tbh its a really fun gun on lower difficulties. Ive been rookying up some friends in the game so theyre only up to difficulty 6 at the mo, and for that the gun works well enough for most engagements, so using that gives me a handicap to not be too bored with them while the learn the game. Cant really think of a reason outside of that, but shield pack, light melee armour and the Constitution and you can actually melee pretty effectively

I think it can work with minimal changes to the reload and damage. Up the damage to match the DCS and speed up the reload or add the speed loader on empty like the senator and 1903 irl (both would be nice)

After a bunch of personal testing, the gun itself is fine. If fits the category of "fun, but not good". Which is reasonable - not every gun needs to be equally powerful; they all just need a reason to use it. It isn't a meme gun in the sense that you're just using it to dunk on things, but it fits a similar role as something fun to play with or to challenge yourself with. And the "fun" element isn't something most other guns can give in Helldivers 2. If you're expecting something that competes with a Counter Sniper, re-read the gun's description and note that it's a ceremonial rifle given to kids used to encourage service. Then ask yourself why you're taking a 20th century gun (effectively copying 19th century technology, if you look into the history of the Springfield rifle) into a sci-fi environment and expecting results that compare to the rest of the arsenal. Firing is reasonable. If you're a fantastic shot, you can deal close to Counter Sniper levels of damage, which is about all you can ask for. Pop the heads off Devastators and have at it. Melee is fantastic. With a Personal Shield and Peak Physique, you can walk into a bug breach full of Hunters and other small-medium bugs and come out alive drenched in bug guts - precise aim with the bayonet will 1 shot the Hunters and Warriors with that 50% boost (be sure to hit the Hunter's main body/Warrior's head though). This is the closest the game gets to letting you play off-brand Space Marine 2 and it is a heck of a lot of fun.

Thought so too. I played for a game, absolutely hated it then went back to my regular gun. Its too slow, too small of ammo per “mag”. And doesn’t do enough damage. When you are surrounded with 20+ enemies and using this, its game over.

I think all it really needs is 300 or more damage and heavy armor penetration. The reload speed per bullet is decently fast compared to the Senator’s individual bullet reload so reload speed would be more quality of life, and honestly if it had more damage and better penetration the current spare ammo count you have would be plenty.

I just want Bayonets to be addable to more guns, the melee on it is good damage, has a longer reach than your standard gunbutt and if you get lots of little bugs you can skewer 2 or three at a time if they are clumped up. Give me all that on the underwhelming AR's and I'd be pretty happy. Also, it's actually pretty satisfying to use, has good sounds and the animations are up to the usual detail ( if you throw back the bolt to add more rounds in first person your Helldiver with push the rounds already in then back in to keep them from ejecting and add more on top) That said, yeah it a pretty bad gun.

I absolutely love this weapon. But I can totally understand if people don't like it. Feels absolutely amazing to use and the melee is just so fun. That being said, I'm on PC, and I feel like I can headshot pretty well with it. The thing is dead accurate at incredible ranges. I feel it certainly needs some enhancements, such a clip reload at empty, like the quick-reload on the empty revolver. Now that being said, is it as good as any other primary? Nah, probably the worst. But That's it's charm for me. Finding tools to work around it and to utilize it for the right environments is really crucial and it's enjoyable for me. I'm a sucker for being under geared and using every tool at my disposal to the best of their ability.
