Mines are decent but not worth a stratagem slot. As a free stratagem, it's certainly useful for those defense or retreat situations. The DSS should include a stratagem we can vote to use for a free slot that rotates every 24 hours. Many stratagems can be useful with that free slot and make the DSS more involved in the Galactic war

Just to prevent any miscommunication. 7:12: The gas effect does not stack. There can always only be at most one instance of the gas effect active on an enemy. If you continue to attack an enemy with any gas source they will still take the inherent damage from that attack, but they will not accumulate further stacks of the gas damage-over-time. And since gas weapons have very very low inherent damage you always wanna switch to a different, non-gas gun once the enemy is gased to finish them off. So diving with too many gas sources in your loadout is very ineffective.

I guess I worded it incorrectly. I meant that with all the extra gas it essentially stacks the damage over time timer. If you hit something with gas (with the sterilizer for example) it will tick away at the enemy then fade away after a few seconds. If you hit them with multiple sources of gas and keep the gas cloud active then everything will just keep acting crazy for as long as the gas is active.

100% true about the damage, but if you have lots of different gas sources you can keep an area gassed for a long time by staggering when you use them, or just gas a huge area at once, either way you can still get value from bringing multiple gas strats/equipment

Gas also weakens enemies. Divers have really been sleeping on gas. It was never meant to be a main thing, but play a support role. It both confuses and weakens enimes. I was just talking to a friend a week ago about how I'd like an orbial gas barrage, as covering the whole field in gas would make things so much easier. This is a happy substitute. You throw them down and you don't really have to worry about anything from that direction for awhile. Its double plus amazing if you pair it with fire. A friend has taken to throwing down both gas and incenerary mines. That combo is LETHAL

It's a great disengagement tool as well. There were a few situations where I was being chased by about 50 light bugs, but there wasn't a reason to remain in the area and fight them. I threw the mines towards the next objective and ran past the stratagem beam, so it fell behind me and deployed all the mines a second or two after I ran past. Those enemies got caught up in the gas and lost track of me.

One of my main beefs is the cooldown vs impact of any stratagem mine. They take forever to cooldown compared to other more flexible strats, and though they may cover an area like a chokepoint or lay waste to enemy bases/platoons, other stuff can do that and does it better. I'd rather AH make it so there is only one mine stratagem, and the mine switches its type based on the grenade carried by the player throwing the strat (gas/stun/impact/therm/smoke/etc). It'd make for some crazy loadouts, and it effectively reduces the amount of strats in terms of bloat by just having one mine strat.

After 450 hours i finally decided on my "main" build, gasdiver. Obviously i change my loadout to suit the situation but gas is extremely underrated. For example, bot jammers where you have to go in (no factory next to it). I just run in flinging gas grenades. Even if there's hulks they just either lockup or start shooting blind while i disable it easily

I've been using gas nades + orbital and honestly you can just ignore half of the enemies in some of the objectives. It trivializes mega hives, just walk through your gas blowing up holes. This will easily replace the orbital in my loadout because you can use it preemptively. Wish we were getting it during this major order.

Honestly if they buff the mines, something ill like to see is more specialized mines, like the fire mines being the fastest cooldown and being able to spread fire from enemies contacting each other (obviously dot would be low but should still be helpful), the gas being centralized but having higher dot than the fire, the base mines being just a stat increase (something like slightly faster cooldown or bigger expension radius) and the heavy mines should be something to help with tankier enemies

Mines are actually not bad. The reason i don't use them is because in every defense style mission in which they would be useful, the map gets blasted by mortars. The mines don't survive teammates well. But i can't exactly complain about my randoms being effective

Someone in the comments suggested making an arc storm barrage, now that is a cool idea. Like an Eagle deployed version of this would fly by and drop capsule looking things on nearby large units (and fabricators/warp ships? Wouldn’t work bugholes), which would then flower open and deal main hp pool damage on the large enemy it lands on/near and arc to smaller enemy units nearby. Since you say “barrage” this could be an orbital stratagem.

Gas and fire damage is insane Gas and fire mines completely lock down a breach or drop My team was annihilating diff 10 no deaths on bots and bugs with 2 people dropping fire and gas mines on enemies The only problem was it crashed the game with the mines and bodies stacking But my loadout was 500kg Fire and gas mines Machine gun Supply pack Cookout Gas grenades I stopped the enemies with gas there confused so they step on fire mines big damage to everything Cookout made them stay in the gas plus fire damage 500 kg got anything big like a titain And gas grenades help with patrols so i can shoot my cookout through the gas Machine gun helps keep up with pressure during cooldowns

The gas mines are the best for sure, but don't sleep on the AT mines. Whenever I use them on bugs they obliterate bile titans and behemoths that seem to come out of nowhere or when basically using them as a second grenade type. Last time I used them they destroyed two behemoths and a titan all at once doing the latter.

Again, arrowhead are really bad at balancing. They simply don't understand the relationship between a stratagem that is strong but takes a long time to recover, versus a stratagem that is weak but can come back quickly. The mines have way too long a cool down time for how good they actually are. It's the kind of stratagem that is more fun to use the more often you get to use it. The cool down needs to be closer to 2 minutes, something akin to the commando, rather than 3 minutes. On the bright side, I am happy that with the gas mines, we are now able to go in with a full mines Loadout.

Mines are too mediorcre with long CD and it would be fair to give them 90s reload time. @Tamachii12 Even with current system people go mad toxic for somebody bringing up mines. Mine spots aren’t visible enough for the team and there have been annoying bugs which prevented you for ever even seeing them. Funny how they have been always better at killing divers than the enemy.

They should make a booster called lightfooted or something that makes walking on thw mines not detonate. Yes they are survivable but at least while free teammates keep throwing them in the worst places and has made for some frustrating albeit funny moments. I feel for those annoyed by the self detonation a booster for it is a good balance of you use your booster slot for it but doesnt remove the mechanic othwrwise

Gas mines saved my life on defense missions, completely decimated Automitons and would basically cut off a line of approach. Plus with the mortar, it would just trigger more mines to get rid of them faster

Gas mines are the best of both gas and mines. Similar it EMS it sets up a time frame to help deal with large enemies. I've seen impalers attacking, from distance, all other enemies which is helpful.

I like them, great at enemy disruption, kills smaller targets. However mines are not a great option still. I have a few changes that could make mines better. 1. Mines are immune to explosions. Only stepping on them or direct gunfire will set them off. 2. Slightly reduced cooldowns. 3. Larger explosion radius for anti personnel.

It doesnt. You can clearly even see it in the video. Its very small tick damage but it does not block all gas damage. There is both the red damage indicator on the sides of the screen and the healthbar is ticking downwards. Its just very minor, so it does make it viable to run through the gas.

If we compare mines to other area denial stratagems: orbit gas, napalm, Gatling etc. mines get less effective the more guys they hit where other area denials do not. Gas mines have enough of a lingering effect I would use it to hold a position on certain objectives. I would bring it on a spread democracy or geo survey mission.

I think another point not made about why these are the best mines When yourself or a teammate detonates one by mistake, the friendly fire will only cost you 1 Stim, (if not wearing gas resistant armour) you have plenty of time to Stim yourself & continue on with the fight.

Mines still need a hard rework IMO. They just simply aren't as effective as any of the other sentries that they are listed next to. I really think they either need to not explode when we walk over them so that we can more easily be the bait that gets mobs to move towards them and die. Or they need the ability to aggro like sentries do. Maybe the cardboard coat out from training tutorial pops up and makes noise drawing them in or something like that. I'm open to other suggestions as well I really hope they do something to make em worth taking cause i would not be supprised if they have the lowest pick rate out of any of the other strategems.

Maybe Try actually positioning them properly like in choke points or how about in a direction you want complete area denial over if people would start using them like actual minefields and Less like orbital cannons they would work perfectly fine heck maybe there's literally no enemies around you and you plop down a minefield minutes beforehand because you know they're going to show up there defensive strategems use them for defence and the walking over them and exploding problem is literally a skill issue more specifically the skill that people are having issue with is called situational awareness or perhaps the maybe the skill issue is actually not being able to communicate tell and or hear the words "I'm placing down a minefield at x location"

You say use it to lock down a path way on a defensive mission. Rocket sentry will always be the best thing to bring on one of those missions and net you more kills then the mines. I'm not suggesting we can walk over them because skill issue I'm asking for that cause we need a way to lure them to the mines once a large path way in them has opened up and now a good portion of them are now just sitting there doing nothing. Proper positioning and planning is very important I do agree with you there. However as things are now tesla tower does a better job then mines on bots. That's with the Tesla Tower getting out ranged in many instances too.

SITREP: Esker 69.4% Mintoria 17.5% Blistica is still 0%. Mines are always a decent choice to consider bringing, particularly vs Terminids since they just press W toward you. Less so vs the Bots since they tend to move slowly and tend to keep their distance. (AT mines for killing Hulks and stuff not a bad idea) That said, Helldivers 2 is alot more "open" then Helldivers 1 was so, at times it feels like you wasted the mine drops or you accidently cut off your own escape route. That being said, I feel like they could change the pattern of the AP mines and Fire Mines "spread" so they don't CHAIN DETONATE each other. Its always annoying when 1 mine sets off like 5 mines at once. And sure they could give them a shorter cooldown, but that just means MORE MINES, which leads to more "accidental deaths" from all the helldivers who don't pay attention to where they are walking!

Maybe I’m being dramatic but this period of the game feels like it’s in the worst state it’s ever been. Sure weapons feel good, sure glitches aren’t game breaking but everything is so boring and stale. There’s no customization, no new maps or missions, no new weapons, and the storyline in general is so filler right now. I’m not saying we need the Illumainte tomorrow but I want them to have an event, colors for armor, or just something.. Anything…

Im actually rather displeased with the gas mines as a bot main. The gas mines are functional and they do exactly wut I expect them to do, I dont think AH under-delivered on this strategem itself I'd rate this strategem 4/10 for bots because it does serve as alternatives to some strategems in specific scenarios, and the area it can cover is actually quite big Honestly, I think the problem isn't with the gas mines itself, but how overtuned the bots are in certain aspects, so anything that is just functional simply wont cut it unless u are a knowledgeable veteran Some points I'd like to note: -One thing I dont like is that bots are constantly firing from behind the detonated gas mines, and the gas cloud is extremely thick it obscures whatever is shooting from behind the mine field. This is quite troublesome on open maps. -I can combo it with other strategems while the enemies are CCed, but orbital gas strike has a lower CD if im using it that way. -I thought of protecting sentries with gas mines by placing it in front of the sentries, but it doesnt do anything if the enemies are shooting from way behind the gas mines, and sentries dont need protection if u know place them correctly. -I like the fact it doesnt kill teammates instantly. It is better than anti personnel and incendiary mines in that regard. However, teammates who get ragdolled into the gas mines are still very likely to die.

If people don't like mines then it's definitely a skill issue! Gas and lasers! are super effective.Because you get the burn damage on them too!

I don't understand why anyone would take these over standard Gas Strike. The problem with Gas Mines is a problem a lot of stratagems have in this game, why take a worse version of something that already exists? It has no identity

Bro when you throw down gas strike it immediately explodes making a gas cloud that does it's thing and then it's done when you throw down gas mines the mines get set up but they don't immediately explode you can place them down and you know use them like a actual minefield it's called area denial heck you could even do it beforehand and lead the enemy into a trap or block off a choke point not to mention the gas mines specifically end up delaying the enemy way longer because of how many times they can set off explosions one after the other making new gas clouds mine's suck because nobody uses their brain and actually uses mine's like Mine's

different playstyle, gas strike is to shut down an immediate attack and gas mines to create a barrier that can be used to defend a path since mines are permanent until they explode

I love them. Team mates get mad at me for using it in a perfect spot infront of patrols in chokepoints. Team mates run through minefield and die because thet want to lose their advantage and formation (cant think of any other reason)? Get gassed and mad. Like uhhh cry abt it. 1. Dont get close to minefields. 2. Dont step on the bright neon green circle.

Yeah, in my opinion, im not exactly excited for the gas mines. Idc how good they are, i want some new support weapons to use, similar to how we got both the quasar cannon & HMG together. Things are stale out here now.

Hate it when anyone on my team starts throwing mine fields around willy-nilly, cause they are more likely to kill me and the rest of the team than they are to do anything much to the enemies. Because Helldivers2 doesn't have a color-blind mode (pretty stupid in 2024, when 15% of the male population is color-blind), and you can't distinguish the gas in the air from smoke - they're a bad idea except for the very limited and specific situations that you described.

Can't play it anymore. Started with 40 fps, down to 30 and nowadays i am on 20 - 30. Yeah. I like mines. All of them. Stay crunchy.

Mines are a terrible addition as the gameplay for the most part pushes you to be mobile and mine fields are the opposite of being mobile. We have 1 mission (Walls) type that calls for long term defense that makes sense for mines. Otherwise we have 3 mission (Evacuation, Flag Raising, Geology) types with limited defense, which more frequently than not artillery or sentries are just as effective for holding off enemies for those. The Gas mines are likely best paired with the Fire Mines as the confused enemies will then walk into the fire mine and burn to death - but that causes you to eat up two stratagem slots for a very situational combo. I'm still not sure that's really worth it. Dead state is a much better state to put enemies in than any other. AH needs to stop wasting our time.
