Must add that many inhabitants in clisson are hiring rooms or even a place for your tent in their backyard. I used to choose this last option, as we had the chance to have a pool in the backyards and the breakfast . moreover our host usually bring us to the fest in his van. very kind !

2008 was my first Hellfest too. It was bloody incredible even when it was comparatively small scale. I made one more trip in 2009 then didn't return again until 2019 (for a stag party no less) and the size difference was astonishing. I've always considered Wacken as the Holy Land but I think Hellfest has surpassed it.

I went to Hellfest in 2015 and 2018. I was blown away by how professional and well organized everything was. Hellfest is a big ammusement park. In 2015 I stayed in the easy camp, it was luxurious, I loved it. In 2018 I got the ticket late so I stayed in Nantes but took the train to Clisson that ran every 15 minutes. Luxury. I went to Wacken in 2017. Mud, mud, mud. I prefer Hellfest.

Me and my friends got a very different taste of music. So, for about 20 years I went to festivals with them wich has a wide variety of music. And we simply stayed in the Netherlands too. Things changed, they didn't want to go to a music festival any longer, because they got kids to care for. And so I deceided in 2019 to go to a metal festival in Germany -alone. Covid happend, but then I went to Rock Im Park last year - and it was a blast! I also went to a small festival in the Netherlands, it's called Jera on Air and is more of a punk/hardcore festival. This year I'll be going to Copenhell in Denmark, and back to Jera on Air as well. For next year I'll defiatly keeping my eyes out for Hellfest!

Craving live metal hard the last 3 years, and I've only seen a few shows this year that all left me rather unsatisfied. I'm sure my fellow metalheads know that feeling when you just need something more. Bigger, louder, and more of your headbanging brothers and sisters to rock out with and have a great fucking time 🤘 I haven't been to a big outdoor festival yet, but I've kept my eyes open for the ones I really want to go to. Top 5: Wacken. Hellfest. Download. Rock am Ring. Resurrection Fest. Not sure when I'll be able to finally go, hopefully in the next year or two.. But yea, 3-4 days of all things metal? Sign me UP. Can't fucking wait to scratch that itch man!

Would love to go to Hellfest once, just for the experience. However it's always the same date as Graspop in Belgium (would love to see your opinion on that festival btw) and seeing how that festival is approx 45 min from my home and usually the line up is kinda similar... I went in 2019 and 2022. First year I tried the easycamp cardboard box. It was convenient to fly across the pond with just a carry on bag but it was nearly impossible to sleep in the cardboard tent. As soon as the sun comes up (usually an hour after finally getting to sleep) it gets too hot and stuffy in there and you're pretty much up for the day at that point. 2022 I decided to rent a campervan and it was a great decision. It's pretty much just as expensive (100 euro a day I think) as doing a hotel. It had an outdoor shower, fridge, stove, cassette toilet.. Also the Leclerc cleared out grassy areas for people like myself to camp in vehicles. It was a quick walk up the hill to get booze and groceries I could cook on the vans propane stove. I spent almost no money at the concession stands, ate drank, and slept like a king all week. The van also was a lifesaver because (like other people) I got heatstroke on one of those 100 degree days. Luckily I could just go back to my van, turn the engine on and crank the AC while I rehydrated with a drink from the fridge.

Been there in 2007/2008 and 2012, it's sure have more soul imo than the other massive festival I went to (graspop for exemple) still those days I prefer festival with smaller audience and the Hellfest become quite expensive (I'm not saying it doesn't worth any penny but it's quite a budget). I love the idea of genre dedicated stages. 2012 in Wacken they had like 5 black metal bands (and I need to include Dimmu and Cradle of Filth here 😂 ) and of these 2 Norwegian bands, Gehenna and Dimmu were scheduled at the same time. Dimmu made the decision easy by bringing a full orchestra and choir so I really couldn't skip it and the stages were too far away to even split it to watch a part of each gig...😢

I attended the 7 days last year, shit was real crazy but god I was exhausted at the last wall of death and pits I went in. (Also, I blacked out Metallica because of drinking wayyyy too much rhum which is really sad). There are plenty of things to be said about its organisation, but as for every single festival in the world, and yes I think it's really well organised for its size. What is often criticized though, is the fact they sell tickets before even revealing the line up. And it's expensive AF, but then not many festival bring such a line up, so it's kinda understandable (Metallica took 4 millions last year xd).

How does the paying for food,beer, and merch work? I heard you had to buy Hellfest tokens that you exchange for stuff, but after the festival you can't return them or even use them the following year. Did they finally get rid of that?
@Ashraycure
@Ashraycure Жыл бұрын
Who told you that? 🤣 Prior (or during) hellfest you put money on your cashless account. During festival you pay nearly everything (except merch for which you still need a credit card) with your wristband. And at the end, if you still have some remaining money on your cashless account you can get it back.

have you considered Summer Breeze? Check out the line up, it is always better than at Wacken, and in Bavaria, where there is usually less rain. And it is practically a family business and not quite as commercialized as other big festivals.

I went back in 2005 and it was fucking incredible, but by the sounds of it, it's grown exponentially. The only festival to come even close to what was Furyfest and is now Hellfest is Bloodstock. I'd highly recommend it, VIP all the way though ;-) Well worth it in my opinion.

Of all the metal festivals I've attended Hellfest is, BY FAR, the most crowded I have ever been to. Visually and lineup wise Hellfest beats all the others! But because it's so crowded it takes away a lot of the magic. The campground didn't fit everyone at all and people started building camp on the walking paths, and even in a vineyard next to the campgrounds. People would even take a dump in the vineyard because the toilets were made of cardboard, and you'd literally be shitting into a large black bucket and then you were supposed to cover whatever you left int he bucket with sawdust from a big bucket outside, so the next visitor didn't have to dump on your dump. And you'll be standing in a long line for everything. Not like any other fest, the line here is waaaay longer than you're probably used to. Unless you go to the place that only sells clams... Not a long line here, but for everything else it's crazy. Still, Hellfest is a fest you HAVE to try at least once.

lol dude these are dry toilets. They exist all over the world and are the most ecologically efficient toilets you can have. As for the size of the campgrounds : there is a purple camp which is always empty, yet i agree it's not marked properly. It's a huge festival, you definitively better come prepared for that, or come along with veterans.

I live 1/2 hour far from Hellfest I can even see metalheads leaving Nantes airport for hours during the few previous days before Hellfest I've been lucky enough to envoy 8 full week-end in a row However, it's been a real pain in the ass to get tickets since 2017. Hellfest can be a place to be for instagram or an amusement park. therefore, you can hardly attend anymore.

On Hellfest the hardest thing is find a real French Metalhead. France is probably the less Metal country in Europe.

There’s a lot of Alternative bands here with it’s heavier subgenres. Bands like The Cult, Sisters of Mercy, The Offspring, Lambs of God, Korn, etc. Now I think Metal should fall under Alternative, but it’s more than just Metal. Grunge, Goth, Punk, NuMetal, etc.
