It's great that in 2024 you still get a buzz out of the hobby. I called it a day in 1989, the Peaks had gone as had the 25's. My local yard, Healey Mills was being run down, the pit closures meant Knottingley had lost its purpose, and Normanton had lost its NE/SW expresses due to the Royston landslip, so there seemed little point in continuing. I kept my photographs of better days so i can reminisc. Great enthusiasm though!

When I was young I would go with my dad to the big London stations and train spot with him, my dad passed away 6 years ago now my interest in trains has come back.some ways it connects back the times with my dad. Thank you Francis for your enthusiasm and joy.

Get to Severn Valley from 4th Oct for their diesel gala. They've a bunch of class 50s running. At East Lancs last weekend they had a 56 double headed with a 40, with a 37 as the tail loco

You were in Leamington! That's my station. Fun fact - besides having a beautifully tended garden which is lovely to explore in the summer while you're waiting for trains, it's also been dubbed the most haunted station in Britain. The staff there have occasionally been disturbed by objects flung by unseen hands, slammed doors and shadowy figures following them around. For a period, they hired a paranormal investigator as a consultant. Have to say that I've done many dark early morning and evening trips from the station and never seen a thing.

Back in the late 80's the yard there would open up to the public and I'm sure as a kid I had a look around, we went under the locomotives inside the maintenance pits, saw all the diesels etc, that was a long time back but what day as a kid eh.
