The thing I find slightly funny (ok, not funny, but you get it) is how male idols can act all 'gay' with each other. They can be all over each other, sleep in the same bed and even kiss each other and NO ONE thinks it's weird, but as soon as someone ACTUALLY is gay, then all hell breaks loose kind of. THAT is weird.
@roseta50179 жыл бұрын
+Yuki Vin I think you misunderstood her comment completely. She is saying that people/fans are ok when their celebrities/idols act gay, but are homophobic towards actual gay men. That itself is wrong. Like if someone copies African American slang and culture, but are racists towards them. Now that is being narrow minded, not what the original comment is saying.
@mq9demo9 жыл бұрын
+Linnea Nilsson They can act all gay because to them it's obvious that they are not actually gay. Trust me, I'm a straight man and "act gay" to some male friends because we both know we are not gay. You might still not understand what's the point of that, but trust me, it's fun and you could also say it's a kind of bonding between men. Just like in some cultures (mine, Polish, included), a kind of bonding between men is insulting each other and making fun of each other. Basically shaming each other to extreme. This creates a warm friendship feeling between men. I'd love to explain why that is because on first glance it doesn't make sense. But it works. So, same with acting gay. Both men KNOW that they're not gay, so they know it's ok to act that.
@mq9demo9 жыл бұрын
+Rose Ta Homophobic... how do you know these "people/fans" intentions? How do you know if they are literally afraid of homosexuals? I am a male and I also get uncomfortable when a man who is gay says some flirty things to me. Honestly, it's the same feeling I get from a girl I am friends with but she decides to make a move. It's surprising and unwelcome. And it doesn't mean I am misogynistic, I just don't welcome such situations, whatever the gender. I think it's quite similar in this case. It would be great to ask gay people about their opinions, like what if the opposite gender hits on them, what does it make them feel.
@roseta50179 жыл бұрын
+Matthew Latawiec I didn't mean only the fans, but their culture in general. Korea is not as far ahead as some other places on accepting homosexuality. And it's fine for you to feel uncomfortable when someone makes a move on you no matter what gender. I just hear from a lot of my friends to just take it as a compliment that you are attractive to whatever sex, unless they're being aggressive and won't take no for an answer. Also I understand the whole same sex people being close to each other building bonds. I find that from a lot of Asian cultures like mine's, males can be close and touchy with their friends and family of the same sex and no one thinks anything of it since it's just showing affection. But when it comes to males who come out as gay, them wanting to be close to other males is unwanted even if they are just being affectionate with no hidden intentions.
@UnorthodoxlyEsthetic9 жыл бұрын
+Yuki Vin No that is not true. She means that why do girls encourage gay acts between male idols and MCs and other people totally accept it as "fan service" and are not disgusted by it, but when a male idol comes out, everyone is disgusted by him.
@Violet.Bora_9 жыл бұрын
Also, when the MC's asked the niece what she would do if her uncle told her is was "like that" (meaning: if he was gay), she said she would accept him. But I don't believe her. Because while she's here explaining to the audience that her uncle acts weird and basically leading us to believe that he is gay, she is saying it in a disgusted way. So if she is saying that she will accept him, then I don't get why she's being disgusted at the possibility of him being gay. I'm not sure if that made any sense but...yeah....

Dear writers, please don't allow such a concern like the third one with the uncle on the show again. I thought experienced writers/producers for a well-established show would know better. What did you think was going to come out of this? What did you think was going to happen? Basically you gave this niece a big platform to grill her uncle about his sexual orientation, shaming him in front of an entire society that is still conservative. It doesn't even matter if he is gay or not. This is not okay. As media workers, you have a certain responsibility. Poor man, can't imagine how he must have felt, be feeling, even right now. His colleagues, neighbours, a large portion of whom are likely conservative have probably seen the show. Just think about that and be more considerate of people who appear on your show. No one should have to go through this, especially not on a show that we label entertainment. Never felt less entertained. I don't even need to talk about his disrespectful niece with her disregard for people's feelings, the other comments have said it.

I was very disappointed at the ignorance on display regarding gay men. The idea that a gay man cannot shout or be athletic as a "real man" should, should be absolutely ludicrous in South Korea by now, but, it isn't. If the uncle is indeed gay, I can't help but think how hurt he must feel living in a country where he is not even supposed to exist, since there aren't supposed to be any gay Koreans. To be denied and erased in his own country, or suffer being accused of being possessed or having contracted some sort of "Western" disease that made you gay, when you've been gay your whole life, must be painful It will be interesting to watch this country over the next 50 years or so, as people in the media begin to announce that they are gay in order to give strength and courage and a sense of pride to their fellow countrymen and women, who are gay. It will be interesting to see the Korean equivalent of Sir Ian McKellen, who has quite the booming voice, which proves according to their juvenile test, that he is indeed, a "real man". It will be interesting to see the Korean equivalent of Michael Sam, who certainly does not "run like a girl" (a chauvanistic statement in itself), so he is also, according to their nonsensical test, also "a real man". It will be interesting to see the Korean equivalent of heartthrob Rock Hudson, who made women swoon because of his "manliness" for decades. That niece showed utter disrespect for her uncle and disregard for his feelings. She should feel ashamed of herself. His life is his life. If she doesn't like it, she should just get out of his house. People may question why he agreed to go on the show. I can just imagine that he gave in to the pressure of "if you have nothing to hide, why wouldn't you go on the show in order to defend and explain yourself?" or "if you go on the show, we, your 'concerned' family members, will stop asking you embarrassing, invasive questions." I am so tired of seeing men being asked on this and other shows and in interviews if they are "that way", and them having to insist vehemently that they "love" women. What else is a gay man in South Korea supposed to do? Admit his homosexuality so that he can incur public disdain and humiliation and possibly lose his livelihood? South Koreans need to finally accept that: a) gay does NOT necessarily equal "effeminate" for men and "butch" for women, and b) there most certainly ARE Korean gay people! They might start by taking a look through their own history books. As I said, it's going to be a VERY interesting next 50 years!

That last concern was just... ugh. First, it's not the niece's right to have that "concern". She can be concerned that he might not find happiness, but the whole OMG he might be gay, what should it matter to you. It shouldn't really have an effect on you. I hated the way the hosts and guests dealt with it too. "You're not that, right?". The whole time they are inferring that being gay is something wrong. And briefly the host says "Oh, it's not a problem if you are". You guys just spent the last 5 minutes making comments about what a "real man" should be like, and then you try to act like you are okay with it.
@pandaonsteroids51546 жыл бұрын
I disagree with this. They acted somewhat like that, and honestly I don't like it either. I don't know about Korea specifically, but I know in places like Vietnam and Thailand gay men are referred to as girls. They are more feminine (impossible to say they're not), so I can't say anything about that perception. Although in my eyes they are real men.. As we watch through the concern, you can see there's something bigger at play. That man is not young, he has 100s of pictures of half-naked men hanged up in his house, touches men any chance he can get, and is somewhat lonely while not being married. I can understand SINCE SHE LIVES WITH HIM and worries about him (just because it's her uncle doesn't mean she can't care) to why she'd have this concern. If the situation was switched to women, I think people would think it's a problem. It's like.. "Why are you looking at women and thinking about women instead of talking to them in real life?" Whether he's straight or gay, has pictures up of men or women.. it is strange from an outsider's perspective. Touching people and hanging up 100s of pictures is obsessive behavior. He also makes people feel uncomfortable. I wish for a non-homophobic world, but I don't think this really showed homophobia. Maybe some hesitation, but there was nothing extreme here.

Forcing people to laugh at themselves regardless of how uncomfortable they are or poking at people's nerves should be done in moderation and never to a stranger you don't know. The problem with the last concern is not whether her uncle is gay or not, it's his unusual behaviour when he hugs, touches, and stares at other men, even his nephew. Also @01:07:28 Mir like 'He just stared at them because they were cute, it seems this girl thinks too much' great job mir 👏 i think he knows that this girl is rude to her uncle and so mir tries to stop this stupid conversation by saying that the girl is thinking too much.

So, lemme get this straight. She claims to be confused about her uncle, so in order to solve the problem, she publicly humiliates him on national television.... Wow.... Ugh. The way everyone stares at him, and treats him, makes me so angry. That poor guy.

The last concern, I'm like wtf man!! Why would the niece bring up here uncle on national TV even if he was gay. How does it matter to her!? Gay,Bi or straight...all are human right!? it's the 21st century people should not be homophobic!
@96NightRider969 жыл бұрын
well just because someone doesn't accept the lifestyle of being gay doesn't mean they should be attacked. Gay/bi/etc people always say they're being attacked, but they're so eager and quick to bash in return. I think everyone has to make their own choice in life, and whether they choose to accept/reject homosexuality, they shouldnt be attacked by other people.
@jyn48869 жыл бұрын
+96NightRider96 being part of the LGBTQ etc. community is NOT a lifestyle. People do not choose to be gay as well as be straight. Please choose your words carefully.

+96NightRider96 Also, being homophobic is always bad. Simply judging someone not with their personality but their sexual preference is something that people need to stop doing.

The girl in the last concern was just immature. She only wanted to find reason for the uncle's weird "preferences" & didn't think of the uncle's perspective. Whether or not he wanted to talk about his skin issue or to have people suspect him, she shouldn't put him in either situation. The second concern was most worrying.. I think either he's afraid to take care of his kids.. Some child phobia or he's just a self-centred husband who has no concerns of commitment. But I guess it seems like this usually among couples, one will be the more mature and committed one, and the other will just be the opposite...

That last concern really bothered me. Not only because the niece was trying to out her uncle on national TV, but because the concern got accepted in the first place. The producers of the show must have reviewed the concern and saw through the girl's intentions, yet they were willing to potentially ruin someone's life because it would bring in ratings. Honestly, after pulling a move like that, the niece would not be living in my house. If it bothers her so much, she can move out and find her own place.

The girl on the last concern is a horrible niece. She shouldn't have brought personal matters on national tv, she should've talked about it with her uncle in privacy instead. The way the audience looked at her uncle was horrible. They looked at him with a disgusted look as if he was some kind of a cockroach (?) The way the girl talked about her uncle also seems like she's really grossed out. She didn't need to be like that. Everyone can live the way they want to because they have the right to do so. You have no right to poke into his personal preference. Anyways I really felt bad for the uncle, he must've felt really ashamed.

As a lesbian myself, the last concern is so upsetting. I have experienced a lot of homophobia because of my russian family so watching how they speake about homosexuality hurts me a lot. Saying that being gay makes you less of a man or saying that he might have a problem, even considering that its a concern is just pure homophobia and its making me so sad.

If she thought her uncle was gay, why would she try to "out" him on national television? Korea doesn't accept homosexuality easily. There are real repercussions (losing your job/losing clients/losing your place to live) if people know you're gay. She made things difficult for him. She should worry about her own life and getting married.

omg i literally watched MOST episodes of hello counselor but the third concern was the one I felt most sympathy towards. Because I have a severe skin condition as well. For me, it doesnt hurt (just itchy at times) but my neck, upper arm, chest, stomach, back, groin is covered and filled with a condition called tinea versicolor. The condition itself is not serious but not permanently removable. And since my case is REALLY serious (I've had it for 7 years now. Tried countless cream, shampoo, pills, etc.) I keep losing self confidence, I always tend to stare at girls with fair skin (especially their neck/chest area since that's one of the places where my skin condition is most critical at). Even when it's summer, I wear long sleeve shirts (and people stare at me weirdly). If I wear a short sleeve, people stare at me AGAIN and even walk a distance away from me because of my skin. It's just so hard.
@Jessifiy7 жыл бұрын
That last concern was so uncomfortable. If she'd come on and said 'my uncle has too many pictures, it's creepy' or 'he stares too much and makes people uncomfortable', then it would have been understandable. But it seemed to be more that she wanted him to declare his sexuality. If he doesn't want to tell you, don't force him, he's probably scared! And it was the way they started talking about 'real men', or that comment about running. They did say 'it's okay, it's accepted nowadays', but they all went quiet and said it awkwardly, i wouldn't be admitting it either in that situation! Plus when they said about touching another guy's thighs and all sucked in shocked breaths...i see males do that all the time in Korean programs! I know Korea is still a little behind in that respect even though they are improving, but living in a culture that's already (mostly) accepted it, it's really awful to watch others act like that. So uncomfortable.
@Mskoreanfevah9 жыл бұрын
okay for the last one- i don't understand why she could call that a concern?? in no way does her uncle being gay or straight affect her so why does she have to make such a big deal out of it? the uncle looked so uncomfortable throughout the entire thing, she should be more considerate about how he would feel talking in front of an audience and viewers about his preference. she could've discussed this privately with him. putting him on the spot and pushing him into a corner is not a way to handle the situation, who the hell would want to come out like that.
