I think the guy in the first concern was very sweet about his words to the sister with short hair. He said "I hope you find someone who only has eyes for you." Whether she prefers men, woman or both he just wants her to find someone who'll love her. Thinking about it she could be asexual but even then she still needs loyal supportive friends who can support her like a lifelong partner.

I feel so bad for the younger sister.. marriage and traditional feminine expression isn't everything (even if in Korea it seems to be, for women). She seems confident and loves herself, so I really don't see the problem. It's frustrating to see all these people shaming her for living her life the way she wants. I think the older is the real concern in that she's neglecting her children. I'm surprised not everyone saw it that way.

I saw it the exact same way as you, I think the older sister is a concern because even tho you should do what makes you happy in life, your child must stay your first worry and you should care about it more than your own happiness. That say, I really can't see were is the problem with the other sister. She is happy the way she is, she apparently doesn't need a man in her life, so why should she change anything I don't get it.

Exactly this is the first thought that came to my mind after listening their stories.......infact the younger sister is beautiful n charismatic in her own way...... she's confident n proud of herself.........I don't think it is a concern.....it's her own way of living and I respect her choice...... With the first concern, I don't think the second concern should be a concern.The second sister seems confident in herself and content with her life. There's nothing wrong with that. The first sister, however, it's not a concern that she loves to dance. What is concerning is that she forgets about her children in the process. I defiantly think that children should be your number 1 priority. I don't mean she can't dance, she can but she has to remember about her children too. Looking at their mother makes me want to cry.

It's Korean culture that they separate gender traits very, very clearly. Korea is generally a conservative country, they don't fancy LGBT cases at all right now so, that's why it's a concern for most people in Korea with family members whp are past the age of marriage and/or behaves like the opposite gender.

Hachiko Prichudlyvi I think "girlier" guys (like Taemin, Ren, Sungjong, etc.) got hate in some ways like they act like a "girl" and some people tell them to become "manlier" b/c they're too feminine looking. You have to understand for the first concern, the mum is going against their society's norm(korean people) here by not being a stay at home housewife and furthermore, she's an aunt, i don't find the dance moves appealing at all, i wonder where she got those compliments from. Anyway thats besides the point, she can do whatever she wants and her son doesn't have any right to stop her(grown baby). Anyway, Its a concern for korean people not for people like us we dont live in the same country we dont share the same culture/customs, we wouldn't understand.

I agree with you for the 2nd sister. She's living her life just fine without bothering anyone. It's the notion that women should get married before they're too old is something that I can't understand nor anyone can provide a legitimate explanation. But I can't seem to agree with the oldest sister. She has her own family and responsibility. She's too caught up in her childhood dream that she's being careless with everything else including her only blood family. There's a lack of priority management in that aspect.

Agreed with @liltunwin It's not just Korean society that think that the mom should be more of a housewife, it's what a mom is supposed to do whilst your children are still in high school. If my mom was to be like that, always dancing and drinking till the morning, I would be very upset at her and think that I'm not worthy enough for her time. Even though he's in year 12, he still needs a guidance. I'm from Australia and i think every mom I knew cared for their children till they were in university. Last year of high school in any country is a major deal.

I have been living in Korea for several years, and while there are concerns, I have found it to be a modern, evolving country. I get annoyed when Western commenters use this show as a representative of Korean attitudes. This is a comedy/talk show, people! Would you use Jerry Springer or Dr. Phil to represent America? Women shouldn't be charismatic they should pretty, those types of ideas that Korea has for women really bother me sometimes. Its like stepping back into a time machine and going to 1950. I really dont like it, especially when they are so advanced in their technology and what not. It just makes me laugh when people go out of their way to comment to me that Korea is so diverse and not as old fashioned as I think it is...yet they labeled the second sister (from the first story) a "spinster" because she is 45 and not married. The only problem I had with that concern is the mother drinking until 3 or 4 am. And the husband scared because a guy had a tattoo. I know grandmothers with tattoos.

Tattoos have a different meaning in Korea. He mentioned that the guy had a dragon tattoo on his back which usually means that he's part of the Korean mafia, it's kind of like their insignia. That is why the husband as well as the others were scared.

"Two Women" Concern (1st Concern): I don't think I appreciate how the younger brother was talking about the sister who looks like a man. So what if she likes to dress as a man? I don't think it's your concern. If she's content with herself as a person, then where is the concern? He shouldn't be talking either since he himself is single and CHOOSING to be single. Korea still has a lot of issues with people being gay. I highly doubt that younger sister is asexual, she’s gay. She could say she’s not attracted to men, but you can see no one there seemed comfortable with the idea of her saying she’s into women. The hosts kept trying to find a way for her to say she likes a man, but no one said well do you like women. While America is no where near perfect and she’d still have to deal with many discriminatory issues she could live a more open life. The same goes for most Western countries. There have been more than a few “concerns” on this show that center around someone who is most likely gay, but not able to come out. I think Hello Counselor could be a show that paves the way for gay rights in Korea. Because they show people are just human and want to live their lives and be happy. I have yet to see on of those concerns win the prize, which to me says that Korea has progressed and its only a matter of time before gay people can live more openly there.

Its a shame there is a perception that something is wrong with her because she is not sexually attracted to men. Its a shame that she can’t just come out as whatever her sexuality is. She could be asexual, but like I said I doubt it. Your forgetting one factor, in many cultures where being gay is not acceptable there are people who do not pursue romantic relationships at all and live asexual lives to avoid being ostracized. Just because its 2014 does not mean a person lives in a place where they can comfortably explore their sexuality. I’m not saying the bisexuality or asexuality don’t exist. I am fully aware that human sexuality can be complicated and as individual as a finger print.

i think they knew she was gay but they decided not to ask because its a private family thing. I think they would prefer they deal with this when she is ready to tell them the truth. And i don't think it's just Korea that has a problem other countries do too. But in this case I think that they were just respecting the family privacy to deal with that issue when the girl reveals it in her own time.

I really like watching this show, but the main reason is because it's interesting to see how cultures can be different. Like on the first concern when they said "But you're a woman, you're supposed to be pretty." When we're trying to stip the beauty madness and achieve gender equality, in countries like Korea it's like the main job for a woman is to look pretty and be a good housewife.

I agree - it's the exact reason I watch this show. Living in the US, I'm shaking my laptop wondering how they think like this, but I realize it's just the differences in culture. Like some of the concerns I've watched in the past regarding married couples, I'm like "Just divorce" but then I remember Eat Your Kimchi saying that a woman who is divorced/single with a kid is treated very harshly and is looked down upon. The inequality between man and woman in Korea astounds me sometimes (and I'm not saying this is applicable to every single Korean out there, but in general, them saying like a woman can only be this and that really angers me).

The man in the 3rd concern was seriously one of the best guests ive seen on hello counselor including the dad who would give things away to poorer people. Its really a harsh world out there and people like him give me hope that there will still be someone to help you when youre in grave danger. "Two Troublesome Women" Neither are troublesome. The first sister just needs to focus less on dancing because she needs to prioritize her family first. Going out until 3-4 am constantly isn't being responsible. Her brother didn't really go on the show because of that. The reason was more that she is in middle aged and dancing but that isn't a problem. The second sister isn't a problem either. She doesn't want to get married but her family wants her to. She doesn't wear feminine clothes. She's happy with her life. I know that Korean society is conservative but I'm glad she isn't falling into gender roles and traditional society rules. "A Good Man" The world needs more people like him. I'm surprised 129 people said it was a concern. As long as he is safe, everything is great.

I really hate how they say that the aunt shouldn't be charismatic but instead pretty because she is a woman. I feel the aunt is fine and can live have ever she damn pleases to live her life. How someone dresses doesn't matter. Her sister though, she should give her kids some more attention.

Am I the only one who's reacting on the fact that the first concern got so many votes but the last one didn't? It's a concern for the baby! She's preventing the child's growth development and no one seems upset with it! O_O But the fact that a girl isn't marrying is much more concerning?! Sometimes Korea scares me... :/

2nd concern: He is waaayyy to stingy! He reminded me of an incident I once had with my brother. My brother had cooked french fries and was sharing it with the family. He counted every single one. When it was down to the last fry, he split it between me and him since we're the oldest.. I was like "What? Really? ... " its very weird to split Everything so evenly all the time! The event (or whatever is going on) loses its natural-ness and becomes a math equation. when my brother did that, i could hardly enjoy my fries, because i was so shocked at what just occurred. If everyone is out having a good time doing whatever, let them enjoy it! and not turn it into a math situation!

Actually i did that. When I was in junior high school. Because i have 2 brother so when we have a meal or food, we always split it into 3. But when i was in high school i moved out so i didnt do it anymore. But the good thing is I always think about my brothers when i eat or have something. :)

The man from the 3rd concern brought tears to my eyes. He is truly an angel sent from heaven. And I hate how the good people get framed for things they didn't do, and taken advantage of. When I have kids, I want them to smile as much as he does, and be an angel like him (but turned downed a bit).

I really like this show, it makes me realize any culture is perfect, koreans have their own issues, they need to be more open minded, also they have the problems of many societies, you can't be good to everyone like the teacher because people isn't grateful the most of the times and you'll find more problems.

Honestly, the first concern is ridiculous. The tomboy lady dresses however she wants, it doesn't affect or hurt anyone. If she doesn't want to get married it's her choice and her little brother or mother shouldn't have a say in it, just my opinions. As for the oldest nuna, the only problem is that her partying and drinking till 3AM might affect her son's life and future and she should put herself together. of course he must be frustated, fyi being in the last grade in shs in korea is almost like hell, the school hours is damn tight and it finish at night because their exams is coming. to study itself is already hard so he will have no time to prepare all kind of food for himself. thats why the uncle said if she cant stop dancing now, she should at least wait until her child is graduate.

I almost agree with you. Sorry, people I'm that same age and I do what I have to do such things like cooking my own meal, work and study. Kids have to grow up and be self-dependent. But I do agree with that the mother should spend more time in home.

In Asia are like, they expect too much from us. I know I'm too young to say this but I have no plan to get married at all but my family keep telling like a ton of reasons to get married like no married is a really big deal to me. I grow up watching ppl around me getting marry bcuz they afraid it"ll be too late or their parent told them too. Most of them get divorced while other living like hell anyway.

I'm a Korean and I'm seeing a lot of comments about how Dongyup shouldn't have said "your aunt shouldn't be charismatic. She should be pretty." I personally think that it was kind of wrong for him to say that, but I also think that it's just a difference between culture. Korea used to be way more strict and prejudiced just a few hundred years ago. But Korea and Koreans have changed a lot, but still has some of its kind of strict (I don't know how to describe this kind of thing, so I'll just say strict) culture left. So I personally think people shouldn't just say that he is wrong because it's just his opinion. I'm not saying that it's right and I do think that it was a little rude, but it's just that Korea have different culture than other countries(even though it's changing fast) and Dongyup(the guy who said aunt should be pretty) has different opinion. I hope him saying that doesn't create a bad impression to foreigners about Korea.

The first concern: It's not a problem that she enjoys dancing, but the problem is that she's neglecting her role as a mother. She needs to take better care of her family. As for the other sister, it's not a problem at all that she looks the way she does. I dislike the fact that they see it as a problem and still think that women should look and think a particular way. She's happy and content, so her family and everyone else should learn how to respect that.

Tbh, I don't get why everyone was more concerned about the noona that dressed like a man, and why she doesn't want to get married instead of the other one who is dancing excessively and dressing like someone in their early 20's and not properly taking care of her sons; I mean, I understand that a lot of Korea still believe in their past traditions and culture, and don't fully accept things like homosexuals and what not, and I know this was aired in 2014, but it was around that time and even a bit before that when homosexuality and all that was starting to occur more and more. If they accept a lot of other things like equality and being happy with yourself, why can't they understand that she obviously feels comfortable and happy wearing men's clothes? And especially her mother. I mean, I understand that she's only looking out for her daughter and wants her to be happy and live her life fully, but she's clearly, already happy with how she is now, and it's not like her mother doesn't already have grandchildren, because she does. (I apologise if I offend anyone, this is my personal opinion and how I genuinely feel, so please don't go attacking me)
