Oh my god the WW2 bomb evacuations! I remember when I was growing up (90s) they were expanding my town and building a new university on the field right across the street. Thing is that field was used as a makeshift airport during WW2 and hence it was riddled with allied duts beyond belief. For 2 years water and gas was cut almost daily before 10 and before 12 we all had to evacuate while the bomb defusal squad did their work. Definitely a weirdly normal aspect of life in Germany as soon as anyone decides to build as much as a garden shed somewhere within your vercinity

Erika, I feel your pain XD This is precisely the reason I learned how to cut and color my mom's hair since I moved here (and she does it to me). Because even though I only had like 5 times to practice, it looks better than a 40-dollar trim at a salon. Loved the video!

I have never payed so much at a barber in Germany, but I am always going for these turkish/arabian/kurdish salons. You get some tea and for 10 euros everything is done

I also lived abroad and struggled before my first hairdresser appointment (Turkey); last year it was 30 Turkish lira, which is like 1,50 euros. I almost cried and wanted to thank the hairdresser. In my country it is around 8-10 euros in cheap places and can go to 20-30, so 1,50 felt like a miracle. Go to Turkey! And they wash and air blow for free.

If you want to save money in Germany you go to a Turkish hairdresser as well.

Can relate so much to the haircut story. My last haircut was also in a country I have never done it and I wanted to make sure I went somewhere friendly to trans ppl, so I went with a kind of pricey option (like $90 or something) but then by the end of it they told me it qualified as a different length or something so it come out to like $150! Waaaayyy too much money for what they did, and I was waiting like 30 minutes extra cuz they weren't ready at my appointment time.

"if you live in Germany, you live in Germany" - So I went to a hair cutter in America on a recent visit. And excpected to be treated with famous American friendliness. Wrong. They just cut my hair, didn't say a word to me, and sent me out looking worse than I went in, after I had to pay a 5$ tip. My husband said, "What is wrong with your hair?" as I made it to the car. TBH this was a Walmart hair cutter.

I had a similar experience with a nail salon and it was shocking. I wish I could tell you my story so you could animate it :,) I need to vent lol and apparently it's normal in Germany idk. Someone I know is a model and they said there's like secret group chats where people share the actual good places to go which is like 0.01% of places available for hair nails etc.

Probably bombs from WW2. They find about 2000 tons of WW2 bombs in Germany every year. Especially in bigger cities you often hear about evacuations. Most of the time the authorities are able to disarm them. It is estimated that about 700,000 bombs were dropped over Münster in 120 air raids and that about 120,000 of them did not explode. They usually find them during construction.
