Its one of those changes (like Greedo shooting) that makes you question if George really knows anything about scene structure? Its also like the addition of "close the blast doors" that makes you think George felt he needed to dumb down these movies because we could figure out for ourselves that someone off screen would have ordered the doors be closed? ,...or that we could tell that Vader was going through an inner conflict type of moment!
@jc_va3 жыл бұрын
"NOooooo" is how I feel about that change. It is the only reason I strictly prefer the unaltered. As a kid, I perfectly understood the uncomfortable silence Vader felt, the pain, the conflict of his own son dying, until he makes the final decision to save him. You don't need to have those emotions exaggerated, like a cartoon. George probably wanted it to parallel Episode 3, but then forgot he made Anakin not silent in that scene with Mace too, and Hayden's performance actually justified the "NO!"
@Animefan-uk8pw3 жыл бұрын
I never got why people hated that scene and still do. I swear they don't even understand the context of the scene and just hear Vader saying no and complain like they're 5 years old. That is probably about as dumb as The Cosmanaut Variety hour and Schapralis Production, (forgot how to spell their names) saying that the title a new hope is stupid. I swear they don't even understand the context of the episode name for every Star Wars movie. (Ignoring the Sequel trilogy)

@@Animefan-uk8pw Do you ever wonder why masked heroes are taking off their helmets all the time in movies? Why Spiderman's mask has eyes that emote in the MCU? Because it's hard to get an emotional performance out of a static mask. Yet, George Lucas managed to do it. Vader, without speaking a word, and with his helmet on, conveyed everything he wanted to convey, it is a moment of cinematic genius, and all of that goes to waste because Lucas wanted to tell instead of showing, for god knows what reason. The "context of the scene" is precisely why Vader doesn't need to say "no".

The biggest thing to me about the Disney+ releases (based on the unreleased 3D print versions) is the color grading. Prior to that, at that point the most widespread version was the DVD versions, along with the Blu-ray which were based on the DVD versions, and those had really bad color grading imo. It felt like whoever did the color and/or Lucas, who ultimately approved them, got too caught up in the "over-digitalization" style that was common with rescans for DVD versions of classic films at the time. Both oversharpened, yet too fuzzy at the same time from DNR. Wayyy too blue, again very common with color grading for DVD at this time. HDTVs were really taking off among the mainstream market at this time, and they tended to do blue colors very well, so a lot of coloring around this time leaned towards a blue tint. A really blue, striking image was often associated with being high def. If you look at the Disney+ versions, they're much closer to the 4K83 versions in terms of color and tint which was how they originally looked upon release. Much warmer and natural looking in so far as it properly looks like a film that was shot in the 80's, versus trying to color it to make it look more "modern" at the time (which ended up not actually being "modern," it was just another fad/trend for the time as we've moved back towards more natural coloring again).

It works both ways. Some people side with Lucas's theory while if they kept SS as Anakin, I wouldn't have mind because it proves Luke was right when Luke knew there was good in him. Which means Anakin didn't truly die or not fully. So him as a force ghost as an old man did make sense as well because it was old man Anakin that redeemed himself and not young Anakin. Some people will say it was young Anakin's ghost came back into him which is.. just another excuse for Young Anakin to exist. It's funny how so much people will make excuses for Young Anakin but Luke's explanation in the film is already enough for why Old man Anakin to exist. For the longest time I hated this change but when I just saw the 40th anniversary again, I was happy simply because I hated what Disney did to SW's. I saw Luke as the hero everybody loved again on the big screen. I already knew it was going to be young Anakin, but it brought a smile to me simply because it wasn't Disney SW's.

From footage of George talking about the changes, the reasons for CG changes to aliens were to make them seem more alive. He said he was never really happy with how they looked in the original movies, often the puppets barely moved, which is also why he did CG Dewbacks. He also always wanted the Ewoks to blink since they were first making RotJ, but the effects crew couldn't make it work out. His justification for CG aliens was that, yeah, they aren't real, but neither were the aliens in the original version.

More proof to show that George actually had no idea what he was doing in the 90s. He was just doing things because he could without even thinking about it. He was an A+ dumbass with his changes. At least the original effects would all fit together and be representative of the time when the film originally came out. Now, it’s a hodgepodge of a film with terrible CGI that pulls you out of the film.

@Cdr20022 жыл бұрын
@@samiamtheman7379 I don’t see them remaking the OT either. Star Wars is one of those few franchises that never truly resets and instead just keeps building on itself, whether that has been through ESB and ROTJ, the prequels, the Legends stuff, or the sequels and other current era media. If your point is more so about how hard cleaning up the originals would be to do, I don’t know, the fan edits exist so I don’t think it could be too hard. Again, I feel a legal prevention is keeping the originals from being restored in their true forms rather than a logistical one

That "Nooooooo" added to the ROTJ Blu-ray is the single reason why I can't watch that version and thank god I kept my DVD collection. One of the most memorable and emotive moments in the entire OT and Vadar doesn't utter a single word. It's just perfect imagery and timing in how he looks between his son and his master and the audience just GETS it. How Lucas thought it enhanced that moment in any way is genuinely baffling to me. 🤣Unless he stubbornly forced it in because it got so much flak from the fans after ROTS and he wanted to make a point.

The teeny scene additions in Jabba's Palace (aside from the dance number), the ring explosion on the death star, and the extra celebration scenes added after said destruction, all fit the movie extremely well... at least in my opinion. As for the controversial force ghost change... I like it, but understand why a lot of people don't. IMO, we probably would get younger Anakin if the movies were filmed in sequential order, since George made the change in the first place, and there wouldn't be a debate to be had! But honestly in the end? I like both, and have 0 issues with viewing either one.
@Deathpool_043 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen people argue that they didn’t like the galaxy celebrating because they thought they were celebrating at the “same time”. I don’t think that’s true. It was never really said when those celebrations took place. The celebration on Endor could’ve already happened when those celebrations were happening. As for Anakin’s force ghost, it makes sense for it be Shaw for “out of universe reasons”. The younger ghost get way too much hate. With “in universe” reasons, it makes more sense for his ghost to be Hayden. However, if people are wanting him to be “old”, he should look like a mid 40s Hayden since that’s how old Anakin died. Why wouldn’t his force ghost heal the stuff that only happened to him because he turned like him aging faster than he should’ve?

There's only OT films - the rest are garbage. Most of the changes to the OT films are garbage, too. The Han (not) shooting Greedo (first) changes are just as bad as the Darth Vader yelling 'no.' It just goes on and on. Han should only shoot Greedo with one shot - done. It made the most sense. Lucas lost his mind and hates his fans, now. That's the only explanation.
