And this, my friends, is how power metal drumming was invented. Rest in peace, Ingo Schwichtenberg.
@gabrielstern49924 жыл бұрын
Actually so called power metal has more in common with speed metal drumming and fusion jazz drumming. But different styles are needed at different times, and their were guys around that did this style of drumming that probably influenced ingo as well such as Stefan Kaufman the drummer for accept used that style of drumming on songs like breaker especially playing that song live and the song fast as a shark, and les binks who drummed for Judas priest in the late 1970s, and was fusion jazzed trained, and like ingo and Stefan was and still is a master at double bass drumming and tom fills, and who ingo stated was along with Phil Rudd of a.c. dc a huge influence on him when he first started drumming.

@@MegaMicah12 thank you I said what I said because partly because I think ingo is greatly underappreciated as a drummer most people say ohh it's power metal drumming or whatever but if you listen closely to ingos live performances and the albums he did with helloween including walls of Jericho you will notice he did other styles too, such as on the song gorger where he ventured into some thrash metal styles as well. Plus if you saw the tribute to ingo video you will notice even though ingo never did it on a studio recording ingo was doing blast beats with double bass drumming before anyone had even heard of the drummer from canable corpse the only other drummer who was doing that was Charlie benante of anthrax for the intro to among the living. Plus Dani loble helloweens current drummer talked about rehearsing for the drum battle and watching ingo play and barely bieng able to at first hear the audio. But was studying where ingo was placing his arms and trying it out and it sounding groovy and then when he could hear the audio discovering it was even more groovy. And ingo always had a great drum tone and used square toms. Something really rare these days. Most think ingo was just wild and energetic but if you listen closely he was incredibly technical too. And highly tight and accurate. Uli kusch ingos imediate replacement in helloween people say was more technical than ingo but I have to disagree. Ingo was just as good as uli if not better. And in the first tour helloween did with uli ride the sky was put back into the setist for the first time in around 6 years and uli like he did when he played with gamma ray really deviated in the drumming with trying to do thrash style grooves and in some parts underplaying and over double bassing to the point that after the master of the rings tour helloween for several years once again dropped that song and many other classics. Where ingo played that song and many others perfectly displaying his classic style of using double bass drums to keep up with the fast rhythm guitar parts while varying the toms and snare to match the vocals and melodies. In other words he played to the song not to show off how good he was and that's priceless

There are modern power metal drummers that can't handle this song. But you have to keep something in mind. When newer bands like Dragonforce started, all they had to say is "we want to do power metal". Dave Mackintosh (who actually could handle this song) lists Ingo as one of his primary inspirations. When Helloween started, power metal did not exist. The individual elements did, but noone had ever put them together in this way before. They created the genre and that deserves a little bit more recognition than just being a great power metal band.
