Every sequel is just a remake of The Crow (1994). The sequels should've been different Crows from the comics, like Iris Shaw from Flesh and Bone, or Mark Leung from Waking Nightmares. Bill Skarsgard isn't even Eric Draven; he's Michael Korby from Wild Justice.
@TimedRevolver3 ай бұрын
@@sebastianemond5313 ...No, they're not all remakes. All three sequels did their own thing. None of them were a carbon copy of the original. 20:31 -- There is no county or state that has a wait period on missing persons report in the U.S. It's the exact opposite, actually. The _first_ 24 hours is the most critical when someone goes missing, particularly a vulnerable person. The odds of recovering someone safely rapidly declines after the first 24 hours, and the longer you wait.
@Phil.Anthropy3 ай бұрын
Be sure to remember where and when this first started happening. 100% that isn't happening now, but every police station has and had different protocols depending on the population they "served" 100% difference in the mind of police when a child went missing vs an adult (not even going to try and inject racial disparity to this...) When I was younger, there very much WAS an amount the police would wait if there was no evidence of foul play, or if the person has a sorted history. "There's no way they just, got away for the weekend? You said tensions have been high around the house, any chance they are just staying at a friend's house til things die down?" Literally asked of me and my friends about a buddy of mine who went missing around 9th grade (2001). They checked a few houses, made a few calls and showed up to school on Monday, but there was an obvious "this isn't an emergency" demeanor held. I really Don't like using anecdotal evidence, but it's something that is seemingly forgot about. Before the mass amount of phones and the internet, there were different protocols to missing persons reports. Not a hardline "MUST WAIT 24 HRS BEFORE WE CARE!" But for sure wasn't like it is today even in rural areas. Be well. Hope I didn't come off like an ass.

I kinda feel like solving the puzzle being solved in this movie summons the cenobites but the blade gives them permission to take whoever is cut. In order to get the gift or power of the box from Leviathan, one needs to solve each stage, avoid the blade, stab someone else and repeat that process several times. Its basically a gauntlet of moral corruption to gain power.

At the mention of the “24-hour wait period” for a missing persons’ case, America has the same rule. It started off before we had the ability to be in near-constant communication, when someone could feasibly be gone for a day or two and then just turn up from a friend’s house or camping trip without a phone call. Nowadays, it is very reasonable to be gone for an hour after a certain point, and cops will have a file out for you if others call them with reasonable suspicion or concern.
@metalmollusquetv3 ай бұрын
I know some stated passed law to remove the 24h wait, in one case particularly because waiting led to the death of someone
@Barnesofthenorth3 ай бұрын
@@metalmollusquetv I mean these days if you aren't found in 24 hours of being missing they think theres a good chance you're already dead, and within 3 days its basically almost a sure thing.

America does not have the same law. It is a myth created for movies and TV shows. Ask any police officer and they will tell you to never wait to report a missing person because the first 24 hours are the most important. After that time it becomes much harder to find a person.

I like this movie's design of Pinhead. The people who think it's "woke" to cast a woman as Pinhead don't know anything about Clive Barker's original novel, The Hellbound Heart, who also directed the very film adaptation of his own book. Pinhead, who like the first movie didn't have an actual name, was described as having a more feminine appearance but, like the other Cenobites, they've been deformed by the box so much that their sex is gone and it's hard to tell if they used to be female or male.
@armyfirefighter3 ай бұрын
Indeed. Read the novella. Frank describes the Priest at some length and is rather upset that they are "sexless things." Barker presents them as sexless and all sexes at the same time almost. So presenting the Priest this way is much more in keeping with the vision of the book. I think many people are - quite rightly - so attached to Doug Bradley's performance that it is difficult to see others in the role. The same when Fred Kruger was recast from Robert Englund. It very much helps that they are not trying to recreate Doug Bradley here - something the other films without him fail to do.
@renegadedjinn53253 ай бұрын
Agreed.
@chrishestand10323 ай бұрын
I actually haven’t read the original novel, but I do know that it was quite different for its time in that regard. In any case, I find that most people who were complaining about something being too “woke” are just a bunch of whiny crybabies. Jamie Clayton absolutely crushed this role.

I'm gonna argue the knife is important. Its the pleasure and commitment of solving the puzzle, and the pain of being cut and marked. It's the duality that cenobites are known for. Yes the blade is what marks the victim, but even in the older films we saw that the cenobites could be tricked. But all in all it's your opinion if you don't like the blade, just keep in mind that there is a good reason for it.

I like the lore change up. You don't open the box for your self now, you let others take the fall and claim the prize at the end. Solving the box calls the Coenobites (ringing the dinner bell you could say) and the blade is what designates the target. "IT is not hands that call us, it is desire" is even MORE true now than ever. Vaught's desire sets all this in motion.
@deusdeaconReviews3 ай бұрын
but you misinterpret the quote there, because "it is not hands that call us, it is desire" was pinhead saying that it doesn't matter who opens it and gets marked by the box, cause its the desire they want first and foremost, so Voight should be taken first not last.

As a Hellraiser movie, I don't like the knife for the same reason Deusdaecon doesn't. As an addiction metaphor, I think it works well. It's not necessarily the addict that suffers for the actions they take. Loved ones suffer in their place as a consequence.

Hey there! This is the first of your reviews I've seen, and I'm definitely looking forward to checking out more. I don't hate the knife quite as viscerally as you do, but I very much agree that its inclusion was clunky at best. What the knife SHOULD represent, in my opinion, is intent. To someone like Voight, an actual supplicant of Leviathan, the process of solving each configuration is a meditation on what each state represents. Once the knife appears, it requires intention to progress. I rather like your suggested amendment to the plot, and think the knife would actually serve it; you have the choice of turning the blade on yourself and becoming a ward of their realm, eternally enraptured in their ministrations, or you can choose to progress further and seek greater pleasures (terms and conditions apply) by selecting another to be sacrificed in your stead. I feel like the stakes could be easily stated to Riley, and even if her brother was stabbed accidentally, it gives her a reason not only to seek greater understanding but feel the conflict of finishing the box. Placing it as a booby trap or making the box so easy to solve that the blade accidentally stabs someone feels... wrong. Disingenuous to what it should represent. In the end, I think there's a lot of solid concepts here that evolve on the original material, but it kinda got lost in the reeds.
