Every horse, like every person, has their "issues"...Crafty is turning out to be a nice cross country horse though. Once his confidence grows with brush jumps and going into/through water, he'll do well, I think. I really like how confidently you ride him through all the "issues", it definitely helps Crafty with his confidence, which is why he might hesitate, but he goes over the brush jump and through the water, despite his concerns. The amount of confidence you instill in the horses you ride/train is really impressive, and wonderful to watch. Thank you, Elisa!!

Crafty McNugget might just be the cutest nickname for him. The two of you did so good, such a brave boy! It sounds like even if he had missed a fence, just getting out there and going over everything first try was what was most important for him. If you had missed a fence, there's no way he would have even known or been upset by it!

Love your encouragements during the ride! I do have a question: how do you raise the confidence of your horses? I have a new horse and she's great at show jumping, but whenever we approach a cross country fence, she'll stop 3 meters before the fence. Then the second time she usually dares to touch it very lightly, but she'll only jump it the third or fourth time. Any idea how to get her to be more brave? Cause this is of course not ideal for during competitions 😂

Elisa Wallace Eventing, are the jumps a different height for Novice compared to Open Novice? Or is it the course that is different? Just curious as I don't know Eventing all that well. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter. Best Regards from Ontario, Canada, Jenn.

Jennifer Lehman: The reason there are different classes of a division, say Novice, is to give more people an opportunity to place well. These divisions, especially at the lower levels, can have 30, 50, or more horses entered. Open Novice is a class in the Novice division in which anyone can ride; old, young, professional, or amateur. In Junior Novice, only children are eligible. In Amateur Novice, the rider must be an amateur. In this manner of separating the division into separate classes, one is competing against 10 or 20 riders instead of 80, or whatever the total number of entries is in the division.

@@sherinnovak729 Thank you for defining it a bit more. As I was a Stadium Jumper when I younger. At 45, I turned my attention to Rehabilitation, Foaling out Mares, and Usually, but not always, putting the foundation work and backing of 3 or 4 year Olds. But only if they are vetted, and told they can start light work. I do a lot of the basics work on the ground before I even back them. And right now, I have a ground roots 3 Day Eventer in for Rehabilitation. So it helps me design a rehab plan that is best for him in conjunction with his vet, chiropractor and massage therapist. Right now he is on stall rest, as he is post operative. So thank you again, for going into more detail of what it entails. Truly grateful for this information. Best Regards, and I hope you have a great weekend, from Ontario, Canada, Jenn

I think the Kitty comment was an overreaction to your post-ride comment about possibly missing a fence. At least I hope that is what it was about! I assume your remark was more reflective of fatigue after riding three horses in an event than a genuine lack of commitment. Lighten up Kitty and look at the big picture.
