Hamiltons' singing is what in part made this band so very purely unadulterated rock. Along with pretty much every other element that made this band what it was.Hamiltons use of oh -so beautifully dissonant chord choices, but most importantly, the staccato- style open air riffage, and when he chose NOT to play, created the tension of a hydrogen bomb when the next chord came, which all us TRUE fans just hung on and clung to. Stanier's closed mic'd better than a metronome, cut -right-through-the mix- style, perhaps some might say his snare sound on Betty as being the best snare sound ever recorded .Stanier rebuked, when I interviewed him after a Detroit Aftertaste Tour show "Just my snare, cranked up as high as it would go" Of course it didn't stop there if you knew what to listen for, Henry's bass tone and style were a perfect one-two punch and a perfect match for Stanier's frenetic playing. Add that all up with Page's rhythm for each song whether it be his use of feedback, jazz- infused chordal soloing, or use of panning. You get a band that, in my opinion, for four ground breaking albums, made true rock fans step back and think " holy shit, this one of a kind gem is going to spawn so many other wannabee weak assed spoon fed we can do that too!? bands...... and sadly, it did.

Saw them in Dec 1994...great show. 2 songs into the encore, Page reaches down to high five someone in the crowd and gets pulled in. Then, there's a huge melee in front of the stage, security jumps into it, and then all goes quiet for a few minutes. Then, Page runs back onto the stage, runs up to the mic and says: "Well, that's it-see ya!!!"

Can't wait to see Helmet at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland in March 2015. I've seen these guys several times, and it's a damn shame that they got so little air play. Traveled to see them at Double Door in Chicago, got to see them at a $1.07 show for WMMS at the Odeon in Cleveland back in the 1990's. We slammed our way all the way up to the stage. Unbelievable guitar riffs, amazing band to see live. Page is a rock god. Love you baby!!!

It's not the style, it's just that he's not a great singer. Helmet was always about crunching riffs. And the 90s were the most forgiving to sloppy live performances.
@terrelldunn39735 жыл бұрын
I saw the Betty 20 year reunion tour in 2015 and they actually sounded much better then they do here. Page was spot on with the vocals, he sounds weak here in comparison. They were tight, precise and loud as hell. They f-ing blew the doors off that club that night. Just awesome! Can't wait till next month to see them on their 30 year tour. Got to meet Page after the show. What a cool down to earth dude.
