I'd like to see the finished project with final assembly. I'll bet it really looks great. I'm considering purchasing some brass steamers as I've just received my first brass engine albeit a diesel that came pre-painted. Cheers from eastern TN

Thanks for the great videos on this. I am considering my first brass loco purchase and I just was not sure how involved taking it apart and painting would be. Very helpful and instructive. -Rick

I really like that graphite color! Thanks for the tips on the taping off and sealing it. I never heard that if you think down the paint a lot it will make it glossy

Nice video tutorial, very informative parts 1 & 2. Can't wait to see the finished engine with all the lights & sounds. Great job modeling brass. Love all the models you've shown so far. Thanx Thom...

Excellent videos, and great tips! But i noticed you didn't wear gloves handling the model when you were masking it. Won't the oils in your fingers affect the second paint's ability to adhere? Or once the loco is primed is it ok to handle?
@Helmikins5 жыл бұрын
I washed my hands right before, it's very hard to mask with gloves on, tape sticks to the gloves. I use gloves when I paint the model. If you think you may have got oils on it, give it a quick wipe with a cleaner, dependent on the material of the model. For brass I use lacquer thinner to wipe it down.

Hi I'm currently working on turning a Bachmann Berkshire into The Polar Express, just like this. I was wondering how you painted the front of the boiler and the smoke box door and what color did you use? thanks.
@Helmikins8 ай бұрын
I used tru color graphite for the smoke box and boiler. I masked off the areas and painted. You could use a brush and paint it as well, just may not be as smooth.

why did you leave the trucks and wheels on the caboose?
@Helmikins11 ай бұрын
This model the trucks I was afraid of breaking the castings buy prying the wheels out as they were soldered together. I did not remove them from the tender due to soldering a wire to the top of each of the trucks to bypass the frame to top of truck contact area for electrical pickup. Most models I will take the trucks apart as it makes for a cleaner paint job.

What is the thing you use to push on the masking tape down
@Helmikins4 жыл бұрын
It's called a burnisher, they should sell them at art stores or hobby lobby.
