It is a beautiful place to visit Don and not far from us. The main problem is we have to park in the market car park and it is always packed with Helmsley being a popular village all year round. We made the mistake of going on their Market Day on our first visit but this visit we still found we had to tour around to find a space this years! It was good to see it open again after closing last year. It is run with the help of many local people and they have it looking beautiful again after having to close for most of last year. Thank you Ela. I love this garden as it is always full of seasonal flowers that grow well in North Yorkshire. Local volunteers help a lot and the whole garden looks well cared for. I was so pleased we got there this summer and Helmsley Garden and the castle attracts a lot of tourist so we were lucky to find a parking place that day. Have a pleasant evening. Thank you Linda. I love yellow flowers in the garden as well. Spring is always nice with daffodils giving a glow but I do love late summer and autumn when warm flowers are at their best. I think this garden is one of the best I have been to and many local volunteers help there. As I walked around I could tell a lot of love went into looking after every part of the garden. Many thanks Annie. I could hear the birds but not see them but when we last went there it was late spring and we sat and watched Swallows catching flying insects over the surface of the pond in the middle of the garden. Yes, bees were making the most of that Echinops. We had one in our back garden but it took over after a few years and we replaced it with another thistle type plant the bees love, an Eryngium (sea holly) and that behaves itself much better. However we do not touch it without gardening gloves on👀 I think this garden is just about the best garden I have been to and with the help of local volunteers they do a wonderful job. A place that my wife and I have visited several times. For anyone who might be thinking about seeing this fabulous garden; Do it ! It's very large and you can easily spend an entire afternoon there, strolling around or sitting in a quiet spot and just looking. There's a tea room for refreshments where you can sit in a greenhouse with grapes growing right above your head, or outside where lots of wild birds hop around looking for crumbs and you have to be careful where you're putting your feet ! Even had a Robin on the edge of our table, eyeing our scones and obviously hoping to get a share. (It did) 😊 I can highly recommend this lovely place. It's a wonderful way to spend some peaceful time, entrance is not expensive, and if you return within the year you get in (if memory serves) for half price.

My late husband and I loved visiting it and enjoyed a drink in their cafe on a very hot day but their lemon drink was lovely and cooling. Many thanks Gerald. It was a lovely day out and looking back, it is hard o believe that day in August was so hot. We have had 3 or 4 nights of frost this last week so have taken all our summer bedding plants up now. We went to an RHS Garden near us last Friday for a walk around before winter days take over. Thank you for visiting. Yes, their fruit trees looked good this year. Most gardens open to the public that have apple trees usually sell them in autumn to the visitors. Some of the larger gardens crush them for fruit juice and then bottle it. I have always bought some if it is ready when I visit as it is delicious🥃😃Have a happy week. Greetings, Julie😊🌈

Many thanks Chris. This garden closed most of last year as they have many volunteers and felt they would be put at risk opening it to the public. It is one of the best gardens we have visited and this summer it was a treat to see it again. We last went in late spring about 4 years ago and their Laburnum Arch looked wonderful. Thank you for viewing Catherine. I did not know about this garden until the 2000's and I have been to Helmsley many times when my parents were alive. It was original a garden back in 1759 but then abandoned 1984, then in 1994 it was taken over and with help from local volunteers restoration began and it has gone from strength to strength. I first read about in our local news letter and visit it around 2015 for the first time. I have been in spring three years ago but this is my first visit in mid-summer. Thank you Linnea. Yes, walled gardens are wonderful at keeping plants sheltered away from strong winds and I would love to have found a house with one but no such luck! We were lucky to have found a home with a reasonable garden plot when we moved here many year ago now. Gardens with new builds seem to be getting smaller. It is about 4 years since we went in late spring to Helmsley Garden and saw their lovely Laburnum Arch so I was happy we managed to see it in mid-summer this August. This is a small garden and their volunteers do a wonderful job. I saw their Laburnum Arch at the end of May about 3 years ago so was so pleased we managed to see the garden in the summer months. Thank you for viewing Geoff. When my sister and I we were young, our parents took us out every Sunday to Helmsley for "high tea" (as it was called back then!) Mum and Dad have been long gone and I have only been back to Helmsley once or twice since as it is always packed with tourists, but about 10 years ago, when I read that they had a Walled Garden we went to visit it. The second visit was in late spring and I was so looking forward to a summer visit last year but they had to close due to the pandemic. Still, I got there this august and still feel it is one of the best gardens I have visited. It is run with a lot of help from local people and you can tell it is looked after with a lot of love. Thank you Tomotugu. This garden was built in 1759 and sits beneath the ruins of Helmsley Castle. It was abandoned by 1984 but in 1994 it was taken over and restoration began with the help of volunteers. It has flourished ever since but decided to close to the public all last year due to Covid. I first read about it in our local news letter back in 2014/15 and was very impressed on my first visit. I went in spring about 3 years ago when the lovely Laburnum Arch was in flower but this is my first summer visit. It all looked so beautiful 👌 Have a lovely day. Warm greetings, Julie😊🌻🍂

No, it wasn't but it was very cute and must have been very thirsty as it was one of our very few hot days. Perhaps the owner felt the water might have a chemical in it, because she pulled it away fast. This is one of the best gardens I have been to. I know there are lots of RHS and NTS gardens but this one it only kept going by some local volunteers that love gardening. They closed all last year due to the pandemic so this is why I went when a nice day came along this August. They had a nice plant centre and I got two plants when we went in Spring about 4 years ago and they are both doing well. We went to RHS Harlow Carr Gardens yesterday, just to get out before autumn disappears for good. Not a lot of colour there but it was a nice half day out. Got very cold by 3pm as the sun got very low. Then we had a frost last night so we now have a lot of begonias to take up as they are looking very sad today🤦‍♀️😢 Enjoy your lovely weather and don't work too hard. Warm greetings, Julie😊🍁🍂

Hairdresser will be fined $5000.00 if she cuts our hair. People in Melbourne are out en masse protesting the Premier's 'Pandemic Bill' which has already passed in the Lower House and has now to get through the Upper House. If this Bill gets passed all of us here will be in a world of pain. Prime Minister is not stepping in. Better just concentrate on the garden and ignore everything else. 🌹FF
