Oh my! We have hawks come through also. Being a bird is dangerous business.🙄

Hello dear Julie, Very good that you now have your camera ready somewhere. Because because you received visitors from Phil and his wife he looked outside you had a beautiful sighting in your garden. And you also don't often see such a beautiful bird of prey as this sparrowhawk come into a garden so close to people. Usually I see these somewhere on a pole along the road. So I also like other commenters enjoyed watching your video. Although I also agree with what you wrote because they eat small birds and I prefer to see those more. And hope her visit was a one time thing. I am a little late here and you can read the reason in the description under a cow video I had just posted. Every now and then I am back on YT but still have to take it very easy. Wish you beautiful sightings and maybe you can i your garden now some filming with the birds you see sometimes. Many greetings, Tine

Thank you for your lovely comments Tine. I know that many of our KZbin friends do love nature as much as we do and understand why we have to accept a bird like this Sparrowhawk taking one of our little bird. I am hoping this female stays away from my garden like the last one did 5 years ago. I am not getting out very much as I did with my husband but there are many lovely gardens around where I live and I will try and revisit some this summer. You always find some nice nature walks near you and show us what we seem to miss and that is what makes your videos so interesting. I am trying to visit KZbin more often but now I am on my own I have to do quite a lot of the gardening, which I do enjoy, but it takes a lot of my time up when the days get warmer. Have a happy day Tine, Warmest greetings, Julie 🥀🐥🌷🧡🍀🙂

A great short film of the sparrowhawk Julie. Definitely not a welcome visitor to the feeders. Hopefully she will not return and very glad you were able to film this beautiful bird! Warm greetings, Cathy

@@quote_nature Thank you Cathy. I was pleased she stayed long enough for me to get enough to make this short video. She had already done the damage as I could see a blue feather. Well, we all have to eat and it was no good trying to frighten her off so she got a meal that day. I looked back at my videos and it is 5 years since a sparrowhawk was in my garden so if I do not see another for as long I cannot complain. Warmest greeting Cathy, Julie

Thank you Linnea. I loved seeing her but I saw what looked like a blue feather near her but I know all these hawks have to eat and they do not kill for fun and so it was too late to chase her away. It is 5 years since the last Sparrowhawk was in the garden so I hope this one stays away for a long time. I would love to see a fox in my garden like you have and what a bonus when she brings her family 👍 I had a trail camera a few years back that was put outside in the front garden and I was lucky to see a fox visit three nights running. After the first night I thought, what can I put out for one if it returns but all I had was peanuts so put some on the grass and that night one came again and seemed to like them. That trail camera is not working now but I am sure a fox does come at night as I have the field and river in front of my house so no roads for one to cross. I love to see your visitors and you do get to show us them in day light as well. It is very, very cold and frosty up here today but the sun is shining. Have a good day Linnea and a wonderful weekend. Warm greetings, Julie.

I think you are great arranging flowers Irene, and all the ones I have see have looked wonderful. I do admire your lovely vases as well. I am terrible at arranging flowers both from the garden and getting some as a gift. I never get it right and end up rearranging many times and still not happy with them. It was my birthday last week and I dreaded what might arrive that would be living, and some did. However one is a nice basket of spring bulbs, all just popping through and I don't have to do anything just keep in damp, I think, but a house plant arrived. Oh dear! First it was left on the porch on a very cold frosty morning also while I was out shopping. I took it in when I got home to find three leaves bent and beyond saving and many leaves have been looking very sad since and I am sure I will lose it. I kill indoor plant with kindness (over-watering usually!) that is why I love outside gardening as plant and flowers are safer there when I am around. Over here in the UK we have been told we are getting gale-force winds today that may cause damage in the north/ north west so I am hoping they will not be that strong where I am. Enjoy lovely warm weather in your garden⛱ Warm greetings, Julie 🙂🦋🌻🌳🍋🌺

I'll never understand why people get upset by predators being drawn to feeders. The feeders are creating a congregation of their prey in a convenient spot, just as the seed is a convenience for the birds who eat it. There's a mild level of disconnect between cause and effect here...

Thanks for viewing Irene. It was nice to see that sparrow hawk and it got me back to getting my camera out again. I have seen your lovely flower arrangements these last few weeks. Wish I could be good at that. I had three lovely tall stems back in late October on a rose that was a gift or my birthday last year. the top of each stem was covered in buds and I though how lovely they would look in a vase. All the wanted was a few days of sun and I was going to cut all three stems and bring then inside. Never got chance, that October was wet and windy and one day we got a very cold night and every bud was damaged, so that was the end of my vase of flowers. I haven' got out and about since last August so I might try and get all the photos and footage of my garden sorted into a video, I will have to see. Hope all is OK with you and your garden. Any plans still to sell up? You have a beautiful garden and it always looks lovely but I realise it takes a lot of up keep and you have done wonders since you moved there. Let me know how things are. Nice one Julie. We occasionally have the odd sparrowhawk in our garden too, beautiful creatures but a real menace to garden birds. Nature can be so cruel sometimes can't it. All the best, Steve.
@chaldon2viewJ84M14 күн бұрын
That is a problem Steve, when I have feeder around for the little birds. I suppose I have been lucky as it is 5 years since I took a video of a female Sparrowhawk that killed a woodpigeon in my garden. He had a poorly leg and would hide in the shrubs a lot so I was feeding him in the hope its leg would get better. I didn't know the sparrow hawk had killed it until I found some of it in one of the flower boarders. We just have to accept these things happen and hope sparrowhawks stays away from my garden for a few years. Still that one got me back to having my camera ready when I see birds on the feeders. I saw the yellowhammers were back last week but haven't got any footage of them yet. Have a great weekend and I hope spring gets here soon and is better this year as I am fed up with all these dull days. Warm greetings, Julie 🙂🍀

Hi Helena, I have tried sending you a message on my mobile phone but I am so slow on it and it is too small to type on. I prefer the computer and I really do not like these smart phones as all. Thank you for viewing this Sparrowhawk and you are so right in that we have lots of shops to get out food from. Last week I got a few second of a Rook that came to a front garden feeder that I had put a suet ball in the try hoping some little birds would find it easy to have a peck at. Well, this Rook ( it wasn't Rooky) was very big and it was hammering the suet ball with its beak, really bashing it until is saw me and flew off. It would have been crumbs the way that Rook was going at it and I will keep what I got on my camera and hope to put it into a video some time with the other birds I have had in the garden in the last 3-4 months of last year. I am not getting out much so I also have a lot of my garden saved for a video but I cannot seem to have time to get the editing done. I have enjoyed getting on KZbin a little more this last week as I have not had to bother with the garden at all this month and perhaps next as well. Hope you are keeping well and the weather is not too cold in Berlin. Take care. Warm greetings from chilly North Yorkshire, Julie🙂

Hi Geoff, Nice to hear from you and I hope you are well as I don't get on the computer much as I never seem to find the time. Have you been to the US again this last summer? I hope I haven't missed any of your videos but I am trying to get on and look at KZbin when I can my garden doesn't need much attention. I have not been too well and tired all the time but I am now having injections every three months to help and hope they work soon. I was lucky to get to this garden as I had not got to any places in summer as I hoped. One garden I did try to see is not too far and I did drive there in early summer but when I got there no parking space were left and none outside either so I just have to go back home. I will go back, if I keep the car next year but I was happy to get to see the new garden last August and Phil (who takes the Lake District photos), his wife and Toby the dog came to visit me for the weekend from Aldemaston where they live and they had read in one of their news papers that the new garden would be open so they took me to see it which was a trea. It was so busy as it was only opened to the public a week before and I just had to get some video footage as best I could, also I had not used my camera much for a few months. I hope to get back next year, on a quieter day and see how the garden has coped over our winter. I enjoyed that day, but it was not the same as with my husband as we both loved going there most years as, being so close, and NTS members, we could pop in for a sort vist. Thank you Jake. I do not get time to put much on my channel since my husband died suddenly in Spring 2023. It was big shock and I do miss him. I have the car and hope, next year, to get to some places near home but it is not the same on my own. I had Phil and his wife staying with me that weekend , they live near Aldermaston, south of reading , but this wife read about the new garden in one of their news papers so they wanted to see it. It is very near me so I went with them and took as much video as I could but it was very busy as they had only opened it to the public the week before. I will go back next year when it is a little quieter. I would love to have visited Cliffords Tower in York with my husband as we had it planned for that summer but never got there. You would love Historic York so if you ever get up here you should visit it. I was born and lived in York until I married, and when young my sister and I would go there and climb up the hill to the top and go inside the tower...it was open then to anyone and no charge! I will look out for any places you get to visit when I find time to get on KZbin a little more as well. Have a Merry Christmas Jake. Warm greetings, Julie

Thank you for replying, Julie. I am a student so have little time to visit botanic and pleasure gardens but I am interested in learning about the horticulture of our planet and the more interesting species with which we share it. Your videos are a great way to get a taste of these places without actually travelling there, especially for the ones up in the North and Scotland where it would be far out of my way to travel. I always find it fascinating to learn about different plants and if you look on my channel, you can see our tree project to identify a local arboretum, and through that I learnt about many exotic species and developed an interest for arboriculture and wider horticulture, which is just an occasional hobby and I still have a fairly hollow knowledge of it. You have a fantastic hobby in visiting these places. Botanic gardens are wonderful places to see the elements of beauty on our planet that we might otherwise never get to see in our life, so always value those visits because you might come across a "once in a lifetime" viewing! Hope you had a Happy Christmas. Jake

Hello Linda. It was a nice surprise to see you came and visited Phil's photos again. Just last week Phil and his wife dropped in to see me on their way back home from a week in the Lake District. They had a late holiday this year as their daughter got married in early October when they usually have a week away. Phil said he got some walking in but the weather was low cloud most days but he did go on hill walks and got above the cloud for some sun in places. He will send me his photos when he gets them ready as he knows I love to see them and perhaps there might be enough for a little video... if he wants me to make one like I did with this one. I hope you are also keeping well dear Linda. Time goes by fast some days and other so slow but I am getting a little better between the bad days. Wish I could get out more. I have the car so get my shopping in and would like to get out more next year but it is not the same on my own and I do not know how long I can drive for. I have a lovely chap who cuts the grass for me and will do any harder jobs in the garden but I still like to do a lot myself. It takes me away from over thinking and I get back in feeling better that I have got something done. Unfortunately my balance problem, that I got after the back op. I had over 4 years ago, is getting worse, still, I can drive the car and I manage in the garden with a long handle fork and hoe. Good that no one sees me as I must look odd at times but I do get a lot done. Now the garden is asleep for winter so I might get more time on KZbin soon. I loved listening to two of your songs that I found this afternoon. You have such beautiful lyric to all your song and the two today were wonderful. I look forward to all your poetic words as well as your music and lovely, calm singing voice. I know I must have missed some these past 20 months but I will find them when I have time. It is getting frosty on a night over here and chilly days now and I don't like winter much at all. Have a wonderful weekend dear friend. Thank you for all the help you have given me over these last months dear friend. Take care and keep well Linda. Warmest greetings, Julie 👍🍂🎵🍀

Very nice video of the Mediterranean Garden. I love themed gardens. My garden is just a mixture of plants from around the world that grow wild here.

@MoreliaAustralia Thank you for viewing. I think is is nice to have plants in your garden that grow well, especially when the come from other parts of the world👍 There are many here in the UK that were brought back from other parts but some do not do well in North Yorkshir where it can get too cold for them so it is a case of trying ad see which ones survive our winters. I hope to visit this garden next year, when it is quieter than it is and see how it is coming on. Have a great day. Warm greetings, Julie 🌸🐦

@ClassRoutinesRENEEsFunClips Thank you for your kind comments. I think the garden is lovely to walk around and the gardeners have done a good job. I hope it survives our cold winters, and I hope o visit it again next year and go on a quieter day than it was as the gardn had only been open to the public a week. Have a great week. Warm greetings, Julie ⛅️ 🌸
