@@annikapc I will let you know my thoughts when it arrives. 😀 Update: Not impressed. I sold it on eBay for what I paid for it. Now waiting for 'Ludwig' to arrive. To sum up: I'm sorry but it reminds me of Last Tango in Paris. And I think HB was being manipulated by Visconti. Difficult to discuss at length on youtube. Is this such a magnificent film if HB wasn't in it? IMO. No.
@annikapc Жыл бұрын
@@sensemaya1 I am so sorry you did not like it, but you gave it a chance. That's good. The Damned was supposed to be a film focusing on Dirk Bogarde's character, but instead focused on Helmut Berger's character with the many layers of sexual debauchery. My favorite scene was when he was visiting his hooker girlfriend in her apartment. No words, just his movements and facial expressions. Dirk Bogarde was rewarded with Visconti's Death in Venice (beautiful costumes and beautifully filmed) in 1971. I liked Ludwig and Helmut Berger's very strong performance. I feel bad for the real King who was misunderstood. Today, his castles are the #1 tourist attraction in Germany/Bavaria. I hope you will like Ludwig.

I absolutely adore him! Apart from his astonishing beauty, he was a very good actor!Much better than many "stars" of today's film industry. In every role Helmut radiated an innocence+vulnerability but at the same time he possessed a dark side - and this duality made all his performances very interesting.A very good actor who looked like a Greek God- what more can one ask?

Yes, and as the beauty recedes it reflects the inner-same that does too. Very, very few of us pass through life with any aspect of the youthful innocent still shining. We all grow the faces we deserve. The to-purpose cultivated love of monstrism (this as generated by successions of viewings of like-conditioning horror films) has robbed very many of the ability to SEE the hideousness that should be. Rascals, politicians and malefactors hide themselves all-the-more effectively on account, their faces being now mistaken for beauty, even though twisted within and outwardly. . : .

He was indeed among the most beautiful of my generation. So sad he seemed to try extra hard to destroy his own good looks. Just as so many other beautiful people have done. +Sergey Tovkusha Actually Helmut Berger always hated Alain Delon, and both stared in various of Luchino Visconti's films, but never together. I agree Delon is absolutely gorgeous even today, but Visconti was a lucky man to land Berger.
@sergeytovkusha36758 жыл бұрын
Sara Lester , I read , that H.B.spoke bad things about Alain Delon , but I did not see the information that A.D. would say that-something bad of Helmut . Maybe it was usual jealousy . Ok , forgive to them their weaknesses . In the end they all and LUCHINO VISCONTI and A.D. and H.B. are great people , who left an indelible trace on art and created the immortal masterpieces . And ,ha-ha , Sara , how do you think , if A.D. and H.B. co - starred together in a movie at Visconti , it would be too much ? All the best .
@saralester37418 жыл бұрын
+Sergery Tovkusha Probably so Berger was in the Romantic Englishwoman with Demon's ex wife Nataille, rumored they had an affair, but not too sure. Both Berger and Delon where both hot European sex symbols, that could explain their hot temper towards each other.

Delon is magnetic. And playing to women's desires and fantasies with his beauty gave him a great career. Berger is like a blonde Delon but who chose to be openly bisexual which ruins that fantasy for women audiences. It would have worked out better if he'd said nothing, like most actors.

Shameful grief in Salzburg. - In Memoriam Helmut Berger, 1944- 2023 - The death of the once brilliant actor Helmut Berger triggered many reactions on Thursday. There is no official honor from the city of Salzburg for the great, brilliant actor and Upper Austrian of the first generation! - . -Star actor Helmut Berger was laid out in Salzburg. Shortly after 12 p.m. there were not two handfuls of visitors in the hall where the coffin was laid out between two wreaths and a picture of Berger. There were party cards on two tables in front of the entrance and two books of condolences to the left and right as well as a framed QR code that leads to the online mourning portal with a digital book of condolences. And then there was a small group of media people. The urn burial should then take place in the narrowest circle. Helmut Berger - his birth name is Steinberger - was an international star, especially in the 1960s and 1970s, and was considered the most beautiful man in the world. He achieved world fame with roles in films such as "The Portrait of Dorian Gray", "The Garden of Finzi Contini", "The Rival" and "The Godfather - Part III". Playing alongside him were Romy Schneider, Elizabeth Taylor, Henry Fonda, Burt Lancaster and Silvana Mangano. His collaboration with the Italian director Luchino Visconti, with whom Berger also lived in a relationship, is considered artistically outstanding. - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHKkl6Z5prl2nbM

Chris Mac I agree. I have videos of all his TV work, but I never created a youtube video. Just of his film work. He had a very hard time after Luchino Visconti died. Visconti's family shut him out of the mansion they lived together in for 12 years and they kept all the priceless paintings hanging on the wall that belonged to Berger. Visconti advised him to purchase paintings with his movie earnings. He never sued Visconti's family for the paintings. He stated all this in a French magazine decades ago. He went to Hollywood to try to have a film career and at least got a role in Dynasty. I believe only 10 episodes.

@@annikapc yeah I think he was a bit disappointed with life in LA, I read some quotes where he thought he would be embraced into the social whirl there but that didn't really happen, he didn't go out much and didn't socialise much in Hollywood, I got the impression he was a bit bored there, maybe even lonely, so maybe that culture didn't really go with his European ideals. Have a great 2021 and thanks for sharing your youtube tribute!!
