We've used Mr. Q Earth Science and chemistry and my kids have really enjoyed it. I combined it with some videos and the experiments are very manageable.

Thanks for this video! I didn’t know how CK-12 worked, so that was great to see. I also think Mr. Q is great. We used it when my daughter was younger. We would have kept using it, except that we found Science Mom, and we really like that, so that’s what we’re using for middle school. I would LOVE to see you do in depth reviews and/or comparisons of science curriculum! That would be wonderful! Oak Meadow, Science Mom, Mr. Q, Pandia Press, Layers of Learning…really anything. I would watch anything like that. It would be great to hear your professional opinion as a science teacher and homeschool mom. Thanks for all you do!

I love this idea! I have a comparison between Mr. Q and CK-12 because that is what I'm planning on using, but I really like your idea. I will get to work on it! Thanks for the suggestion!

Have you looked into Science Mom? Unfortunately it ends in middle school, but we started using it this year for my 7th grader. Next year, we are using the free earth science for 4-5 graders. I’m excited to use it for 2 of my kids!

@@Homeschoolology the earth science is totally free. You can try it and see if you like it! That's how I started. Now We'll do biology in the fall.

We did the RSO Astronomy in 8th grade, aling with the stargazing notebook, and then did RSO Biology 2 for 9th. I found the biology to be very hands-on with a microscope lab every week, plus an additional (non-microscope) lab or activity. There was a worksheet with each chapter that I generally used as an open-note quiz. There were also research questions that i used selectively. I found it to be robust with active learning, but maybe not as much reading or depth of concept as a typical biology book, which was perfect for my daughter. We liked it overall.

We love science chunks!!! I even use them with my high schooler as it’s helping him to enjoy science!!! My older daughter who is doing high school credits early enjoys joining in as well!!! Guest hollow has a free biology course that has a different textbook for secular families!!! I didn’t know CK - 12 have their own website!!!

I agree that Science Chunks can be used for up levels as well. We just beef them up with some added videos or an extra book. Love them so much. I was pleasantly surprised to find CK-12's website! It's pretty great too!

We just ordered Friendly Physical Science for middle schooler. It has some mixed reviews, but I needed something easy this year. For high school chemistry, we are going to go with CK12's online textbooks. Middle school history-we are doing our state's history through PBS online textbook. High school history-using the OER World History online.

We love the OER material. Khan Academy has it on their website and it is much more user friendly over there. Check it out! I didn't know PBS had history curriculum. I will add it to my list to check out. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the video and recommendations! We're planning to do Blossom and Root for the upcoming academic year (1st grade). This will be our first experience with B&R and I'll be curious to see how it goes. I agree with you that it seems like secular science is hard to find!

Yes! And while it looks wonderful and I love all the books, from what I've seen it is a big time commitment. We like to be done quick around here. LOL. But a good option for those who love reading! Thanks for sharing!
