Thanks a ton for providing me with a few of your ideas for creating some free youtube videos. Here are a few topics that I've been considering: 1. Lightroom Selective Adjustment Tools 2. You are absolutely one of the B-E-S-T teachers/coaches in photography, Adobe Lightroom, and Photoshop. I am sure others have already noted great suggestions as to the type of tutorials they'd find beneficial and I don't want to repeat them. If I could mention a few, I would love to see tutorials on (1) your prompts your subjects to pose; (2) types of adjustments you would make in Lightroom vs. Photoshop; (3) location choices - do you ask your subjects or do you pick the location?; (4) how to stay motivated; and (5) how to start photography business. I thank you and appreciate all that you do in motivating your students and I love ALL your masterclass courses!

There is one thing I would LOVE to have is an extraction video that shows how to remove a subject, or horse, specifically, from a busy background. One that shows a flowing mane, tail and forelock. It could be against trees or any other busy bg. I have YET to find a great video on how to do that. I often want to change the background on a person with hair out of place and put them on a new bg, but nothing yet has come along. I would hate to have to use the pen tool, as I find it very cumbersome and slow. BUT, if that's the only way to get a good extraction, then I guess I have to use it. I would be ever so grateful if you have a good video that would show great extractions. Thanks!

Dear Chris. I am from Canada. Thank you for sharing this video and for sure it is a good idea to knock on the door where the need is hidden. I am following you through all your videos for probably 7 years now, through Linda first and now through your Website and videos, I recently bought. I really liked the video Tips & tricks through Linda until the end of 2020. These videos are very helpful for me. I believe these small videos can bring new followers to your KZbin Channel and marketing purposes as well. They are small and priceless videos with the best narration of you. Just having your voice and your method to approach the PS problem and tricks is enough for a viewer to stay with you until the end of the video. After 7 years of work through your videos, I believe It is impossible to teach what you did teach to me through a few short videos on KZbin. You know better than me that PS is huge and needs a lot of practice and work. So your video has to be a sort of accelerator to the process of learning not a teaching video from Scratch as you always used this word. Again thank you for these years and priceless lessons, advice, tricks, and tips. Good luck big brother.

I think tutorials and how-tos are a saturated space. I'm sure you'll be great and help a lot of people, but the thing that I think would be most special and unique to you and your art is a series about your goals at the moment and the things you're working toward to grow as an artist. Naturally, this could include technique and how-tos as you demonstrate what you're working on, but it would be founded in your "why" and helping people find their "why". Take us with you on your adventures and in your post-processing, and share what you're working on/what you're learning/what's pushing you at the moment

Man, I love your ebooks, People Pictures and Authentic Portraits. I feel that your thoughts on that subject are well fleshed out and really clear and enjoyable to dive in on. Video accompaniment to the subject matter from those books would be really cool, I would love to see more on location portrait sessions where you're documenting the process of connecting with a subject and helping them get comfortable and finding the right moments to grab and edit later. I think your approach to that field stands out to me and I haven't seen other "youtubers" come close to the thoroughness and grounded nature you bring to your work on portraits and the philosophy behind it.

The digital image is the bottom line. Ideally, you want to adjust that 'raw' file as little as possible in post-processing before you make a print. Don't touch them pixels! So, with that premise in mind, would you produce a series of videos highlighting the X-Rite ColorChecker passport. One for white balance (creating a pre-set in camera), one for creating a color profile of the sensor in your camera, one for calibrating your monitor, one for creating ICC profiles (i1Studio) of your printer/paper combination, and one where you bring all those elements together in post-processing so that the color and white balance are aligned before you begin any adjustments on your calibrated monitor. I know this speaks to the technical side of things, but it's like playing on a well-tuned piano, the final result is on a different level.

Working with a EIZO CG2420 and Canon Pro-1000, but it still costs me more hard proofs than I would like to get it right. - Work/Life balance You have your photography, family life, playing all the instruments which are visible in your videos. Hello Chris! I have follow a lot of your courses and I love your teaching. Something that I really liked in your video is when you are talking about your people approach. How talking with your subject could change the whole portrait because you are putting your subject at ease. That would be a good video. Also, I would like to know more about how someone would use a different camera provider. Why would you choose Sony over Canon or Nikon. How would you find the right camera that fits you. Also, I have the tendency to buy lots of stuff, but never do much with what I bought. For years I had a camera and it was sitting in the corner of my room and I never used it because I did not know how it work. So if you're doing a series of practical videos such as classeroom homework, that would be cool on KZbin. Something like here is a picture at iso 100, iso 200, iso 400. Go experiment it yourself and when you are done we will see in the next video how to work a different adjustment, your Focal point for example, etc. Thank you and have fun!

Hello Chris...first of all, keep wearing the hats, those are really cool. Second, your videos are great. You speak in clear English at a decent pace. You have a great edge over your competition thanks to your diction and wonderful quotes. Your teaching skills are top notch. My son attended Brooks and recommended you. I'm so glad he did that. So, I am a retiring Financial Executive, in the middle experience range of shooting photography without formal training, but read many books. Now, I have your videos! I love portrait work and do well in outdoor light, with maybe a reflector here and there. I just love to shoot people. So, there are times when I want to shoot indoors, but I know very little about strobes, umbrellas, soft boxes, etc. So, for me, the next step would be to learn more about studio lighting. I can also always use more work on composition and poses. I don't get excited over landscapes...people are my thing. So, during this Pandemic I picked up two Mannequins in a retail liquidation, for free, and am practicing with the Mannequins, but it's not the kind of thing that shows emotions, quite yet.

Ha! Thanks Scott. The coolest thing about that hat is when you buy one, they plant 10 trees. So often I teach, speak and create videos but don't really know what people think. I always hope they like them, but never really know. It's cool how something as simple as a youtube video can help with that. And yes, I really think I need to do a studio / strobe light video which is about light and about connection, soul and meaning. Thanks a tone for taking the time to share your thoughts!

I am fairly adept at Lightroom and love mucking about tweaking and transforming images - so gratifying. I am considering learning Photoshop. But could you clearly explain: what PS can do that you cannot do in LR (and what you have to consider when you are shooting), how important (or not) it is to learn these skills. Can I call myself a real photographer if I don't use PS? And....if I have to learn PS from scratch, what is the best way? Thanks!

karen - this is such a good question. this would make for a great video. but long story short, sometimes an analogy can help... like comparing the two tools to doctors. lightroom is like your general doc, and photoshop is like the specialist. or maybe a more "appetizing" analogy is lightroom is the cake and photoshop is the frosting. either way, 90% of the time is spent in lightroom and 10% in photoshop. sooooo long story short it is definitely worth learning. I have a course on my platform called Photoshop for Photographers (and others) that would be perfect for someone like yourself. some people prefer to buy 1 course, others the "complete pack" which is access to everything. but of course others have courses as well. but basically you want something geared towards photographs.

Hello, Chris, thanks for the video. I've been watching your tutorials since way, way back in your early Lynda.com days. It was mostly for Lightroom back then... when Lr first came out. Later it was a bit on portraits. I've always felt your portraits had a much more "real" tone to them, whether it's real-life, or more on the human, everyday level kind of portrait-or something in that realm. I shoot mostly urban now, but many years ago I shot high-end, high-key, high flash glamour shoots. All the models were pros, and-well, you know how different that is. Anyway, to the point, I think a video on your thought process as you go into a portrait, would be very interesting. Is it a lot about knowing the person and using that; is it more about your own personality, etc.? I'm sure you have done many, many "portrait" tutorials over the years, and I've seen many of them. So, now I'm more asking about your thoughts, method, mental style... any pre-shoot brainstorming that may go on regarding the subject, etc. With the resurgence of "environmental portraits" I've thought of this somewhat over the past couple of years. Hope this all makes a little sense, and thanks for all your years of teaching in photography.

Thanks Thomas! The good 'ol lynda.com days - those were awesome! Lynda is still a good friend. Anyhow, I love that idea of a "real" tone to portraits and the thought process related to that. I'd love to make something like that. I think it's what I care about most. So thanks for highlighting that and for the idea. MUCH appreciated.

I am interested in fine art and painterly photos. Especially in different painting styles. Classic style Rembrandt, Vermeer, impressionistic, expressionism pointillism. First creative a good basic for it, explaining light on background or not, what possibilities we have in setup for portraits and the post proces.

Sounds great! Great suggestion. I love the idea of anchoring photo instruction in painting... because really the great painters know so much more about light, gesture, posing, etc. that we could ever imagine. Thanks for the idea!

I would love to learn more about manual lenses, and filters. I just got a 85mm manual lens and an adjustable filter. I think the pictues turned out well, but I was wondering if Lightroom shows you what filter you've used. I know it tells you what ISO, F#, and Shutter speed you used to shoot your image, but nothing about the filters that I've found.

I jumped into YouTubing with almost no knowledge of using a camera (bought a DSLR) or editing. I'm learning as I go and my wife does my editing at the moment (thank goodness). That said, I want to learn to tell stories with my camera/editing skills. Does this make any sense? I'm an old (66 yrs) beginner - but I do enjoy your videos.

thanks for the idea - i totally get that! and love that idea of "telling stories" - that is the key! and it's the best time ever to be a beginner as you get to bring a lot of life experience and wisdom to the camera! cheers!

I know you’ve covered it in different a context but I am always trying to sort out what the best lens set I should carry into a shoot. There’s a go-to set. And then anything specific to context - shooting outside vs indoors, portrait vs. action or landscape or candid, etc. At least that is what comes to mind today:)
