if you haven’t fixed your cam, try swapping the entire board under the tape transport with the other gr c1. that’s what i did with my victor gr c1 with a similar zenith model. good thing about these models, they are modular. no unsoldering/soldering needed to take them apart.

I recently had to repair a gr 7 and ended up having to Frankenstein two broken units to get one, first one had a very similar issue, best conclusion I was able to come to was that some chip (or more likely cap) on the main board is starting to go as they are approaching their projected lifespans, so even if you had a service Manuel regular trouble shooting wouldn't work, though if you had the drive and board schematics you could try and trouble shoot that way, though that would take........a long time. best thing you could try and do is locate the control board on your first unit and preform a swap which is what I ended up doing. may not work but thats my two bits
@MyGreenLawn20198 ай бұрын
That’s what I need a drive schematic or someone familiar with the unit. I really appreciate the time you took to comment. Thank you

Recently aqquired a Zenith Vm6000, it is quite litterly the same camera, jvc and zenith where both owned by Victor Japan who made the camera and label slapped the same unit under both brands, might be a lot easier to get the zenith and gut the internals into the jvc@@MyGreenLawn2019

hello, cleaning the mode switch is an easy thing to do and you can definitely try. but i can see when supply reel is spinning (drived by a belt from capstan) than speed is not consistent, and make me think of a power issue. there's DC-DC converters in camcorders that can contain miniature low esr aluminium capacitors, or if they're not inside, they're very close to it. i don't know if the GR-C1 is one of those who contain aluminium capacitors inside DC-DC converter, but anyway, failing capacitors can cause a lot of various issue...

Well its really strange actually. When the camera arrived, it had a tape in it, so I attached my AC power adapter to it and rr/ff/eject, all was well. So then I played the tape and it was playing, but I did not have the view finder attached and I wanted to see what was on the tape, so I stopped it, turned it off. Attached the view finder, turned it back on, did a rr/ff/ eject, I like to do that to be sure everything is working before I press play. Everything was fine, insert tape again, press play and here we are. Strange because it had already played once before. I thinking the play mechanism started to go forward and never finished the cycle, not sure. I'am at a loss for words. I appreciate your input truly!

@@MyGreenLawn2019 in few words : yeah sure, it worked before it failed :D my advice on camcorders of this era is beware of capacitors. they're of course not always culprit, but they're very very often cause of a lot of troubles. and i'll would personally start by checking those in DC-DC converter area, and make sure (implying desoldering job...) there's no aluminium capacitors in converters themselves.
@MyGreenLawn20197 ай бұрын
@@whaka54000 I totally agree with the capacitor theory! Thank again for your input very much appreciated

I've taken mine apart to check the belts, but for the life of me I can't remember what connects to CN12, it's a five pin connector sat behind the sliding switch board & below a two pin red plug that's coming from the lens assembly. It's weird because I can easily identify all the other connectors, but there is no five pin connector spare, only a white 2 pin with only one grey wire connected.
@MyGreenLawn20195 ай бұрын
Without taking mine apart again. I also don’t remember. It’s all a blur really haha So does your work? I sure wish I could get this one up and running
@313Games5 ай бұрын
@@MyGreenLawn2019 Mine turns on, powers the lens and I can see through the view finder and it pulls the tape around the read head ( now I've changed the belt that is.) But it won't play/RWD/FFD at all. I'm going to change the main capacitors underneath and see if that has any effect next. I got stupidly bid up on this one as it was listed as used, could've got some money back but I really wanted one of these and I'm determined to fix it! I'll share what I find.

@@MyGreenLawn2019 Just dicovered that connector has a the 3 pin plug on a long black lead, it's coming from the button panel that plugs into the left side of the 5 pin connector on it's own. Changed the main caps but still no dice on the play wheel.

HELLO!!! . Thanks for sharing the video. A few weeks ago I bought a JVC. Apparently it hasn't been used in a long time, however the battery charged and I was able to turn it on. It worked for a few moments, I was able to remove and insert the tape. But after trying to put "REC", something went wrong and now when I turn it on, the STOP light flashes, and then the STOP play and Rew light flashes. I assume it is some plastic part or belt that is failing. Can you tell me what you think and if you have any video of when you opened the camera? I took out the screws, but I can't open it. (i upload a video with the error), thank you in advance for any information!!!

@@backtothefutureUY I was unable to resolve my issue. I really had no plan to actually use it, but I did want a working unit. I will hold off tearing it apart further till I research more. I do have 3 of these so I have some spare parts, problem is they were $200 plus each not working. Right now my nicest unit is on a shelf being proudly displayed in my home theater. Your problem is close to what happened to me.

Oh $000's for the camera and some more $$ for the other camcorder - thats steep - I feel for you. I think I had an email from you asking me about this camcorder. I doubt its the mode switch, its easy to check and mine seemed fine even though storage of the camcorder was not the best. There are some deep screws which hold the chassis in place and these are quite easy to deal with allowing the belts and the boards to be separated from their connectors. I have not been feeling brave enough to revisit it following my video on my channel, but @KylesDigitalLab made an interesting discovery. I have a Ferguson camcorder which is exactly the same I am going to compare it with... Also @12voltvids didn't offer me too much information, he seemed to be pretty burned from JVC camcorders in the past!
