I wondered about the need to put on a counter weight, worked out amazing, never seen or thought of wood turning in the way you do. You're so young, you're going to be one of the wood turning masters (not that you aren't already) in a decade or two.

You can think of the large piece of wood backing it was screwed into as a kind of flywheel. Speed couldn't be too high, obviously, but he got enough out of it to carve it in just the right shape! :D

wow what in incredible piece of wood! the salting looks really promising just from the raw look at the log. clever mounting on the large wheel, especially the counter weight. really good use of such a cracked log.
