You are a breath of fresh air, and a ray of light in the darkness of benzo withdrawal. I cant tell you how wonderful it is to see a bright smiling face discussing this topic and guiding people through a community usually filled with negative, desperate, and hopeless forums and videos (not that its their fault). I am unfortunately not a stranger to benzo withdrawal over the years of dealing with my GP. But seeing your videos reassures me that it will get better and the strength to assure this will be the last time I am dependent on a pharmaceutical. It is clear as day your kind heart and good soul. Keep up the great work. Best wishes to you and your family!

Patients educating doctors what has things come to
@josephvoll38426 жыл бұрын
martin duffy Many American Doctors are extremely ignorant and naive to the powerful, physical addictiveness of bzps. (is "addictiveness" a word??? If not, it should be!!!) When I decided to taper off of a 3-4 year, daily 80-120 mgs of Diazepam or equivalent, I researched the taper process from that Dr.Ashton in the U.K., made an outline for the taper plan, and gave it to my Dr. He ask me to describe the wds and he was surprised that it was so bad. I had withdrawn from heroin and methadone several times, but the 2-3 days of benzo withdrawal was much worse! I've made it thru heroin detox a half dozen or more times, but not valium! It took 13 months to taper and I had absolutely no wds and felt fine during the entire 13 months. U.S. Doctors need more education about Benzos! I guess they underestimate it because of it's Schedule IV status, which is very misleading.

A lot of therapists have to be clued in, too. A lot of them should be our first line of defense, and they are often not. I was told by one to take an extra dose to go to an anxiety treatment group, while in the midst of the taper. I've also seen therapists on youtube recommending benzodiazepines for agoraphobia, without realizing that they often cause agoraphobia in people who never had it befoe. Also, some of the mental health professionals need to understand that heavy exposure therapy isn't exactly recommended when coming off these meds. The worst comment a therapist can make is "hey, so-and-so is so anxious that he/she needs to be on this many milligrams of Klonopin a day." Good way to take away hope from people.

I guess every detox center, clinic or hospital is different in the way the treat their patients. With me after taking Klonopin for 15 years, at a psychiatric unit in a hospital they made me stop talking in one week and if I you get sick they don't let you leave and just watch your suffering. After that they tell you to deal with it! Better off do it at home. New Jersey.

xanax is basically banned in Australia. Its an S8 medication which means it’s basically impossible to get thank god for that! It seems to be useful for 3 days then your tolerance grows, your addiction grows and suddenly you’re up the creek. I got addicted in the 90s. Had a bottle of 2mg x 100!! After a month of light use it became apparent that my anxiety was worse than ever. I only took them initially because my separation from a terrible person was very stressful! I had never really had anxiety before. I know what anxiety feels like, everyone gets it sometimes, but normally I didn’t suffer from it. Xanax actually gave me anxiety. So to fix the problem I dissolved 15 tablets in 60 ml of water in a bottle.. then I would dispense myself 2ml of the preparation at night time and top it up with freshwater each time and leave it in the fridge. That’s only one milligram and every time you have it afterwards it’s dosage is decreasing in a inversely proportional taper - painless. Worked like a treat. You just have to remove any temptation of taking Xanax when you are a little bit pissed off or upset. I threw them in the toilet- devil’s brew! I am glad that XANAX and is banned in Australia because I can see the problem caused overseas by its continual dispensing.

This is totally my life right now. I walked into a psychiatrist office at 16, and was prescribed klonopin and became a literal zombie. I completely stopped taking it after a few months, and had no idea what was happening to me. I truly thought I was going crazy- I wasn’t educated on the drug and the consequences of not taking it anymore so I was clueless that this was even the issue. He than put me on Xanax, and I was way too forgetful, didn’t even remember my day looking back on the days past- granted I was on 0.5mg; I did not want to live that way. After trying many many different SSRI’s and SNRI’s; none of them helped. Than switched to Ativan, the only thing that worked. Now, I suddenly am being told I have to taper within a month time frame. It’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It was the only thing that helped me face everyday life without overwhelming anxiety. I’ve told my doctor that I should have been more educated before being put on this drug, and I shouldn’t be feeling like I’m being punished for following what my doctor told me to do to feel better. I sense zero sympathy when explaining this as it’s just brushed off. They want me to take Paxil for long term treatment of anxiety, and taper off the Ativan within the month. I’m at the point now where I refuse to take any other medication because now I have severe anxiety of being in this situation all over again, because just like they told me years ago that this was a safe route- you’re saying the same thing now- why should I trust what you’re saying? it’s unfair all around, but more importantly it’s unsafe, they truly need to understand that we don’t WANT to be on these drugs, we just want to feel better, and when you’re doctor tells you something, you believe them, and trust that they have your best interest- I no longer feel that way what so ever.

I sincerely hope you went and found a new Dr. Yours shows no empathy and is just cruel, punishing u over his hang-ups he may have with benzos. These days it's all klonopin, every shrink thinks it's safer than say, Xanax which i was on for many years b4 being forced on klonopin. Now i take it to not be sick more so than to cure anxiety as it's not effective like the xanax was. In fact, i was far more comfortable leaving my house and my agoraphobia is 10 x worse on klonopin than on xanax. SUDDENLY XANAX IS THE U.S.A.'n NEW OXY TO GO AFTER AS FAR AS NOT PRESCRIBING IT ANYMORE. Eventually they may attack all benzos like tbey did with opiates which totally doubled heroin/fentanyl use by cutting off the tap or flow with no wean. 1000s of people forced to cold turkey. (Imagine the DEA going after benzos next. I doubt they even care that their policies already created 1000s more illicit drug addicts.)

t's not banned in Australia, it has to be prescribe by a registered Psychiatrist. The problem in Australia now it that there are thousands upon thousands of legitimate patients who were prescribed this medication but have it abruptly stopped because their GP cannot prescribe it nor to they have the ability to refer their patients to a provider who can continue to prescribe their legitimate medication. These people are not addicts, they are patients who where prescribed a medication to help with anxiety or sleep but have now been dumped because of changes implemented by Government. I totally agree with the changes but there must be pathways put in place for patients who are already on this medication so that they are not put in the very dangerous place of abrupt benzo withdrawal. The other problem is getting into see a psychiatrist and or a psychologist (6 to 12 months wait). I hope you heal and wish you well.

I went to a rehab facility for alcohol but I was also taken off the xanex by day 3 I thought I was going to die all of the withdrawal symptoms were terrible and the rehab facility put me on a regimen of all these different sike meds I came out of there like a zombie I could barely talk without mumbling I could keep my thoughts together it was horrible. I'm now a couple of weeks into trying to get the fuck off of this shit for good, and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be able to hold at .125mg once daily within a day or two, if I'm not already there now. Today's been rough though. I just took my 'daily dose' of .125mg, but withdrawal hit me pretty hard today. Hopefully the symptoms abate enough so that I don't feel the need to talk another dose. I'm trying to do this as pragmatically as possible, yet at my own pace. I'm lucky I've got a cool, understanding doctor to see me along in this process, but goddamn is it hard some days. I'm pretty determined though.

I'm currently weaning myself off of Klonopin because it's now required that I be seen by my doctor every 3 months. I live like 50 miles away from my doctor's office and they're just making me jump through more and more hoops every time I go back in there. They made me take a drug test today like I was some criminal and on top of that I had to call my insurance company to make sure they would pay for it because she said if they didn't I would be billed $360. I'm just glad that I'm only taking 1mg a day. I'm reducing down 1/8 of a mg every 2 weeks and I hope that isn't too fast of a taper for me. I wish that I would have never started taking this evil drug back in 2004.

I wake up every morning so anxious I often throw up. I took Clonazepam as needed for almost 10 years. At some points, daily use was necessary. At others, it wasn’t. I had several years I was on no drugs at all. But now that my anxiety is getting worse, I realize no one wants to prescribe me the ‘miracle drug’ that got me through my early twenties panic attacks. I feel like begging the doctor to please help me and prescribe me the clonazepam because NOTHING I have ever been prescribed works the same. They’re putting me on all these bipolar medications and hYdroxyzine (which has been useless) and I’ve lost 30 pounds from not being able to eat or function. Once you’ve been subjected to benzodiazepines does ANYTHING else even work? Losing hope.

What a luxury to have an advocate. And how do you manage To get to a library to print out this manual with no help or cognitive function and ability to even remember how to speak .. to do all this. I am tapering and in derealization .. depersonalization.. akasthesia . Thry will first of all right away say no no way, if one is even capable of getting there. Or remember or know how to even follow the manual. Ex. If you are in a severe state as Lucinda. .. how do you manage to do all this which requires being able to function.
@BenzoBrains5 жыл бұрын
You don't have to print out or even read the manual. That's why i made my Ashton Manual video series. I break it down in chunks so people can understand it. An advocate is only one piece of the pie. If you have no friends or neighbors, you have me and the doctors at benzoreform.org advocating for you. If you have a smart phone or your doctor has a smart phone you can direct him/her to my videos including my interview with Dr. Wright from benzoreform entitled "what do doctors need to know?". Email them these links ahead of time along with benzo.org.uk/manual. Lucinda and I are friends and i know what it's like to be that bad. That's why we're working on a new manual/workbook for patients and doctors that will help you and your doctor work together to develop a taper plan.

I don't know why you ended up in jail. Some people have lifelong severe Panic Disorders and going off Xanax is not the answer. The SSRIs and Antipsychotics they try to drug you with instead don't work or make you a drooling morbidly obese diabetic zombie with liver damage. I don't consider that a reasonable option! Some people do very well with Xanax. Maybe it's the people who have a bit of anxiety that should never take it. If you can replace Xanax with herbal teas, meditation, positive affirmations, yoga, and giving up caffeine, then you don't have much of an anxiety disorder. Xanax would be overkill for garden variety anxiety.

my doctor tried to treat (what I later discovered was) symptoms of Valium WD (I was dependent but unaware and taking it erratically, he claimed it was symptoms of a pre existing problem) with Ativan. And then was bemused when my 'pre existing' symptoms got worse. The ignorance is just jaw dropping, as well as terrifying and highly dangerous if you're on the receiving end of it.
@chrislindsay92977 жыл бұрын
Your advice about bringing an advocate is invaluable. You will be disbelieved and you will be treated as a pill seeker. You need strong, coherent support to say 'no: this person did what they were told by a doctor'. The iatrogenic benzo dependent person despises every mg he or she must take of this stuff. Which makes it so much worse when they are made to feel as if they are a 'conventional' 'addict' who wants to get 'high'. They could not be further removed from that. I've heard of people who were on a repeat RX for years and when they started talking about wanting to taper, the doctor panicked and either cut them off or tried to force a rapid taper. With horrific and all too predictable results.
@BenzoBrains7 жыл бұрын
chris lindsay this is why I advise people to never just go in and tell their doctor they want to get off. they'll assume control of your taper. always plan out your taper beforehand and then, maybe inform your doctor of what you are doing, or just surprise him when you're finished by letting him know you won't be needing any more refills.
@chrislindsay92977 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I just realised his reply was here. You're absolutely right. I foolishly left the doctor who made me dependent on Valium, thinking I needed another doctor, as that one had harmed me so much. @BenzoBrains2 жыл бұрын
It can. Diazepam has a much longer half life and is harder on your liver. It can make you more depressed. Introducing any new drug can have potential adverse effects. Generally doctors are led to believe Valium has more addiction potential and this is usually their concern. In my experience a benzo is a benzo and statistically Xanax, the most prescribed benzo, is much more likely to be abused than Valium. Valium just has a bad reputation from the Betty Ford days. Marketing has told doctors these newer, shorter acting benzos like Xanax are "safer" just like the newer longer acting oxycontin was "safer".

However, no psychiatrists provide benzos here except for a six-week taper. For now, I am lucky to have a shrink who keeps me at my 1 mg of Klonopin because I have been on benzos most of my life and even a slow taper would take the REST of my life... in sheer hell. Kyle Taylor the only thing that will help make this easier is to do a proper taper over a long period of time. luckily it's only been 12 days so you still have a window of opportunity to reinstate. find the dose at which you can stabilize out. get educated and when you've got your head in the right place begin a slow taper. benzos are hell and you have to fight fire with fire. here is my video on tapering. be sure to check out the resources I list below it. good luck kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmO5goZ5psZpsKc

Hello my Dr just switched me from valium 10mg twice day to klonopin.5 mg twice a day is this safe I took my Valium this morning and couple hours having to take my Klonopin Is this ok ????
@BenzoBrains Жыл бұрын
So you're going to stop the Valium completely and suddenly start K? It really depends on how you respond. The dosage is equivalent so that shouldn't be a problem. But the half life of Valium is much longer than Klonopin and so you may experience some interdose withdrawal symptoms with the k. Any particular reason why you were switched?

Jessamine Vavul I actually know other people in Indiana who have tapered. What dose are you on, is it a high dose that scares doctors? You may have to travel to another town

Jessamine Vavul you don't need a psychiatrist to prescribe Klonipin. Any doctor, nurse or physicians assistant can help you out. Make sure to take an advocate with if you have a friend or family member who can help

I am on extended release xanax and klonopin. I'm extremely sick everyday as I do believe its being on both and probably some tolerance. My question to you is what is one to do if you have no insurance or support system. Please any advice? I just go to my family Dr every 6 months and pay cash. I feel like I'm dying already.
@BenzoBrains6 жыл бұрын
Given that Xanax extended release is very similar to klonopin with regards to half life, you could switch to one or the other or crossover from both of these to the equivalent amount of valium and begin a slow steady taper off. I know you're miserable right now. The only way out of this benzo trap is to get off and let your body heal. You can develop your own taper plan and do it yourself. There is no need to try and pay for specialized help, there are literally a handful of doctors out there who actually understand this problem and would know what to do. Watch my video series on the Ashton Manual and my video on Tapering Safely. You can do this.
@kristyogle3846 жыл бұрын
I don't know if I have it in me to do this, I've never been so scared in my life or sick and nobody around me understands they think I can just stop. Ive watched and read way to many horror stories online which makes me even more anxious. I will watch more of your videos but I'm so afraid.

@@BenzoBrains was orignally prescribed and after 8 years have abused and over used to a point where my life has become a nightmere and been tampering down for about a month now. So I do consider myself a addict as for right now with all the symptoms im going through i feel like the worst type of addict. Because these people have a clean date where as I dont yet and from all your vids and other the best way to beat is slow and steady. @@BenzoBrains I also went through a medical detox and was awful went in for 6 days and all they did was give me 1mg of advant then on the last day the set me free and said okay dont take anymore. At one point the Dr thought I was there for alcohol. They had no idea what they were doing was a terrible experience to think your getting help and really no one could care less what I was doing there.
