What I have done with mine this year, which was in a terrible state after a late, monster scarify was to hollow tine aerate it and when watering (after seed had germinated), do it by hand and flood it with a shower rose moving slowly so all the holes fill up with water. It came back very green, unlike my neighbours which look pretty poor. I agree, water is your lawn’s best friend but getting water down deep once every day initially to get it back and then back off to every other day in periods of no rain seems key. But it takes a lot of time standing there with the hose. And it grows like topsy too which is another pain in terms of finding time to cut it 3 times a week!

Thanks Daniel for these videos with the pumps. Just ordered a hozelock pump. Our water butt tank we have never connected up to a downpipe, for now I’m gonna put that my our outside tap and fill it with tap water for now atleast. I was considering a small sprinkler system but with that last sunny blast in June , the connector popped off the hose reel . So water came out and was running a number of hours before we got home. So that’s a worrying thought if we were ever away for the weekend etc.

@@leefenton9477 no point connecting to a down pipe as during a drought theres no rain to fill it so you might aswell connect to mains with a ballcock so it fuls then stops

@@DanielHibbertLawnExpert so far so good but not quite anywhere like this lawn or the other lawns you create. its been a bit of a weird year so far with the lawn. Just before easter overseeded but with mixed results. I did use the Grade 4 compost and covered up the lawn like you do. I still have thin areas despite repeating the overseeding. Unfortunately i just cant seem to get that carpet like grass you manage to produce. The other thing i read up recently was PH so i purchased just a cheapy PH soil reader which read 5.3 which apparently is on the acidic side. Recently added some lime after reading about this. At the moment the lawn is drying out big time. Amazing how we have damp wet weather for months and the moment the sun comes out it quickly turns yellow! I do use your wetting agent which does help. To be honest i think the soil beneath my grass is just crap. Another question. Have i missed the window for more overseeding? curious if youd suggest not to overseed in the summer

Great Video Danny 👍 You talked about not putting fert down due to stress but, over at BBL16 you mentioned putting fert down last week. It’s been dry for a good 3-4 weeks now in the North West….what’s different from last week to this week other than temps raising by 2-3DegC that allowed fert to be put down ? Your suggestion please regarding watering intervals, one of the other You Tubers suggest not more than every other day as it encourages the grass roots to grow deeper/stronger in the search for water, I have been watering most days from about 7 am to get the water into the soil before the temperature rises.

If you unscrew the plastic nut i bet your bottom dollar that you have either bent back on itself or broke one of the little flexible grey things that bite onto the hose! @@DanielHibbertLawnExpert Its a category 3 risk and needs a double check valve, a single is not really compliant. I see the check valve but its not obvious if its a double or single. You do have an air break in the tank with the ballcock. Back siphoning is a real hazard to the home owner and the water network as seen when some customers get "blue" water from their toilet. Worse still leave the open hose in a pond or bucket of chemicals.
