Great informative video. I have been homeschooling my eleven year old for a year now and we are loving the freedom and flexibility, we are still finding our feet. Twinkl is fabulous and one of our favourite resources we use in our home ed journey. Love to see an insight into the days of other home editors families, yours looks fab and your children look very happy which is the most important thing for myself and my daughter.

Hi, I also have an 11 year old too. Been HE since before covid but only just plucked up the courage to de register them. The whole time I worried for nothing and after doing all my research I then discovered that taking this path permanently (removing them from school register) wasn't going to be as complicated as I assumed 🙉😅🙈

I used some of twinkle's worksheets during lock down. Supplied as printable links from sc. After that I went on to a payed program, which we all found fab too but now the children are getting board of it I will use twinkle worksheets again :)

great video. I always worry that I'm not getting the children to do enough work, but in actual fact sometimes I think they are doing too much, which can burn them and me out. I think I'm always going to worry!! I like to do things outside in the afternoon, but I find I run out of ideas really quickly. We are all a bit bored with going for walks as its all we have done for the last year!!! Any ideas for afternoon outdoor activities would be very greatly received!!

Glad you find it helpful! We go through Twinkl and the children choose various activities they fancy....often colouring or a cut and make activity or a maths mystery or game. We have this in a folder that they can dip into for afternoon activities or when they have a moment activities.

I did not enrol my daughter in Reception. She has type 1 diabetes and the hospital actually said that putting her in our local school would have been dangerous for her. I had no choice. So far my biggest fear has been, not that I can't teacher her, but that my daughter will grow up lonely not forming relationships with other children that she may have had going to school. Another massive issue is the housework which takes up a lot of my time. Time I am supposed to be using to school her. At the moment we are in a bit of limbo and its all a bit sad.

I can totally understand that fear. Have you hooked up with some local home ed groups so that you can make some friends and learn together. We find this takes the pressure off in our house. Housework is a never ending struggle for us and my house is always a total mess. I don't have any answers to that one!

Hi I found this very helpful, but I haven't decided what to do yet I feel I'm on the fence but my gut feeling is to take the leap as I have been home schooling for the last 2 years on and off because of covid so I know I can do it, but worry about them taking exam's when there older will they be able to do this and where?? And collage how do you go from home schooling to college? My son really wants to do home schooling and I'm finding his always got a belly ache when it comes to school lately. He hasn't gone to today first day back and his got belly ache lol again. I keep asking my self what are you wait for ?? Had a few negative comments from few family members which don't help... my sons school isn't a bad school but with school keep shuting and opening,and covid rules and with remote learning which is a pain at times has you are timed on all work to be done then have to send it off on line not easy sometimes feel rushed. Just feel like I'm confusing my self 😕 what to do help !

Thank you for your comment. Are you a member of our Facebook group? This might be a great place for you to ask some of your questions as you can be assured of getting lots of helpful answers from our community of home edders across the UK. Regarding the question about taking exams, there are lots of ways that this can be done and you may wish to join a home ed Facebook group local to you (these are likely to come up on a search). So local to us, for example, children can sit their exams at the local college as home educated children. Good luck with whatever you choose to do and remember whatever decision you make can always be unmade. Nothing has to be forever. I find this helps my decisions feel less all encompassing.

How do you approach home schooling when the child is not even school age. How do you approach teaching to read for example
@twinklhomeeducators62022 жыл бұрын
I think you would get lots of different answers to this as everyone approaches things very differently. I can answer for us personally (Krissy Twinkl in the video) that we did nothing structured until my eldest turned 7. We just played and played. I didn't "teach" him to read but he was a fluent reader by 6 as he taught himself by me reading and reading to him and him following along with his finger. He is now 9 and an avid reader. I think it is about trying things out and working out what is best for your learner.
