The song was originally written in this time signature but the Beatles manger made them speed it up to become more pop orientated for the movie. John Lennon got to hear Johns arrangment and said it was better than he expected

Welcome to Australia’s wonderful John Farnham. He has entertained us for 5 decades. And he never lost his voice. He was still singing at 70 and only stopped because of the covid restrictions I doubt that John will now ever sing again. He not long ago had a cancerous tumour in his jaw removed. But thanks to DVDs and you tube. We can still enjoy his wonderful songs. Sending love and good vibes to John and his family 💕💕

This was one of the best nights of my life. I've been privileged to see Farnsey live 17 times. This man has been in every decade of my life, and is huge part of our Australian story, as well as our own personal lives. John is so very much more than a singer and performer, he's humble, extremely generous, a great Australian, but he's one excellent human being, who treats everyone the same way. It's a beautiful thing for us Aussies to finally see John (and other Aussie artist's) being discovered for the first time overseas - we're proud of our artists and want others to appreciate and enjoy them as well, so welcome to our wonderful world of Aussie talent, strap yourself in, coz you're in for a helluva ride m8. Hugs and peace from Australia

This was in 1989. As mentioned, the studio version is a younger, less gritty John but still a great listen. It's his own arrangement and you're right, he made it his own. He doesn't cover Journey that I know of, but is often compared to Steve Perry even though we Aussies think he is the GOAT. There is a cover of Zeppelin's "Black Dog" out there (just audio) that is well worth a reaction. Get well Farnsey! 💕

John’s voice is so powerful, you can’t help noticing how far out he holds the mic. He even tosses it around and does tricks with it, it’s all so effortless. His energy is electric. He’s just out there doing what he loves best and having fun. Incidentally, it’s a well-known fact that John Lennon loved John’s version of Help. He even commented that this is how he wanted the Beatles to sing it originally. He said at the time he wrote it, it was a cry for help. So pleased to hear John’s doing great.🥰

The concert was 1989. If you haven't sone so already, watch "You're the Voice" by him at the same concert. He is the best live performer ever. This was the last of a grueling concert, but he still was pitch perfect. John was a far better live performer than studio.

This man can sing anything.The late John Lennon said this is the way the song was intended to be sung. Live is best with with John as you see his wonderful personality shine through and connection with the crowd. You're The Voice is John's first really big song that he is known for and is Australia's unofficial National Anthem. He was born in the UK and moved to Australia when he was a very young boy.. One of the best voices ever. So many great songs John has done over the years I love Gethesmane from Jesus Christ Superstar showing his musical theatre background. He did ACDC Its A Long Way To The Top which is great. Queen asked him to be their frontman when Freddie passed away.

There's really no need to hear the studio version of this song , which is great , because Farnsey is always at his best live ,the members of his band and his back up singers are all recognised performers here and the shows they put out together are memorable events that if you were lucky enough to attend you never forget the experience . Farnsey usually sings his own original songs or those written exclusively for him but my favourites are both tribute covers of Australian singers WHEN THE WAR IS OVER a Jimmy Barnes and Cold Chisel song and COOL CHANGE a Little River Band song originally sung by Glenn Shorrick and then by farnsey when he took over as the lead singer for LRB . He also has sung show tunes and classics with the likes of Olivia Newton John ,Celine Dion , and Tom Jones just to name a few , I forgot he also does an unbelievable cover of ACDC's LONG WAY TO THE TOP check them out you will be amazed .

I grew up listening to their music, the 60's were a great time; l especially loved the movie "Yesterday", where there song are introduced to a younger audience. On of my favourite songs by John Farnham is Please Don't Ask Me; he also does a great duet of this song with Olivia Newton John. John first performed this version of the Beatles classic song Help at a Royal Variety Performance in about 1974 in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. John is known in Australia as The Voice.

The studio version was recorded in 1980. By the time he did this concert his voice had devoped even more depth. So this version is proba ly better than the studio. Having said that the clarity and sweetness of his voice really shines in the studio version. Meantime he hasn't done any other Beatles covers that I know of. Although he did do back to back Beatles arrangement followed by this, his own arrangement during another concert. CHAIN REACTION I think. No Journey either. But he does a really great accepella version of Stevie Wonders Love's in Need ...also during the Chain Reaction concert.

No don’t do John studio. He comes alive with a crowd. He sings faultlessly every live performance. Love the way the sax echoes John's voice with the grit in the high sustained note. John and the crew do their sound check to Led Zeppelin's Black Dog, no video because it was just a sound check, but an aural delight of John, his awesome backing singers and amazing band. Another cover is his It’s a Long Way to the Top (if you wanna rock'n'roll) also from this concert, high energy rock. But his original songs are fantastic also.
@magpiegirl37832 жыл бұрын
There is a video of John in concert where he starts singing Help like the original and then changes up to his version. It’s great and you really hear how much the song was changed. John did some covers in his early days (Raindrops Keep falling on My Head) but most of his work is original. He covered AC/DC and Black Dog. You’re The Voice, Something is Wrong With My Baby were also sung by others before John took them on. John’s best cover IMO is When The War Is OVer and is better than the Chisel version IMO. John’s voice and personality are deserving of an orchestra, but in the second verse when he is singing with just the piano, you realise John’s voice IS an orchestra.

This concert was advertised as John and his Big Band in typical Aussie understatement, it's a 100+ piece orchestra for crying out loud. lol A couple of songs worth checking have been mentioned below, plus these are worth a look also. Always choose the Live version with Farnsey, he has to tone things down in the studio so that he doesn't distort the recording equipment. Notice how he holds the mike below his chest, both mikes are a metre away, which he does all the time to not drown out the other singers. John and Lisa Edwards, a top singer in her own right, and one of John's back up singers for 20+ years. Angels.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5CVf32Ifsl1hZo This one with Olivia Newton John, who we have recently lost. John has also had major cancer surgery including removal of part of his jaw and we may not here him sing again. So let's enjoy this one as well.. Please Don't Ask Me.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKa5kKeQhKmZgZo And even when he is singing with one of the most powerful voices on the planet he still put the mike away from his face and closer to Jonny Diesel. When Something Is Wrong With My Baby.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3mTknuvn9-KqbM

In the 60's he did Georgia. As a sound check he did Deep purple's Black Dog, audio only. Look up the main eveny, cancer fund raiser, for Grenada, and please don't ask me.

So true. The Main Event concert was John, Anthony Warlow (Australian opera and musical theatre icon) and Australia's sweetheart Olivia Newton John. The concert was solos, duets of varying combinations, and trios. Two songs not to miss from it are Granada, John in a duet with Anthony that blends opera and slapstick comedy, and the heartbreakingly beautiful ballad Please Don’t Ask Me from John and Olivia.
