I'm pretty sure the thing he was referencing about "robot AIDS" didn't even happen in any official comic. If I recall, that was an online fan comic, where Robotnik and Uncle Chuck were essentially research partners, and Robotnik pledged to cure "NIDS" when Nicole the Lynx (and her parents) came to him to for help. Robotnik's solution was essentially a big robot walker-life support thing, which was apparently horrifying to the Mobian Council (or whatever the fuck their government was, I don't remember, but it had King Acorn in it and echidnas for whatever reason), who then essentially stripped him of his degrees and budget... So he went crazy and decided to encase everyone in robots to "save" them. The closest thing to what Corey is talking about happens in the Post-Super Genesis Wave run of the Archie comics, where it's revealed that Nicole the Holo-Lynx was actually "based on" the sick daughter (who died of NIDS, if I recall?) of a scientist, Dr. Ellidy, who tried to "digitize" her to save her life. Or something like that, it's been years. All of which is a riff on supposed Sonic SatAM show notes that Sally's little computer, Nicole, was actually the consciousness of her childhood friend implanted into a satellite by Robotnik, but she somehow gained godlike powers and decided that, instead of stopping Robotnik, she'd just wipe his memory of her existence so that she'd end up in Sally's hands... And also prevent herself from taking over the world? Guys, I don't have ASD, I swear.

I don't know about "Sonic letting them die" but it did have some rather unfortunate writing foibles, mostly due to Sega mandate. The most infamous example being Shadow running headlong into a swarm of infected like a retard, Sonic tries to stop him but Shadow just says "Cowards run. *I* win." And of course, becomes infected. Originally, Ian Flynn wanted Shadow to remove his Inhibitor Rings on his wrists like he does in '06, and still get turned anyway but at least look like less of an idiot doing it. But Sega basically told him "Nope, we don't like the Inhibitor Rings, you can't reference them." And so, we get stupid Shadow.
