My GEM from this one is that Focus is a reflection of priorities. If you don't teach the dog that YOU are the priority by building an absolutely stunning relationship together, of COURSE that squirrel or other dog is going to make you feel like your dog doesn't listen. I get the same thing with my students... "Why doesn't my listen to me when..." With this phrasing, I have another tool in my toolbox that I can use. Thank you, Susan, for providing so many GEMS that have encouraged and challenged me to start dog training on my own as well. Recallers is a stellar program that I am proud to belong in.

I used to teach a watch me years ago but I stopped - think it was because the owners were doing more work trying to get the dog's attention, almost like they were begging the dog. Now we do Suzanne Clothier's automatic check in, where we just acknowledge the dog's decision to look at us. The challenge then is acknowledging every check in by the dog. Yes/treat or if no treats on them, thanks for checking in Buddy - such a good decision! Hope that helps.

Useful podcast. Susan makes a great point in Recallers Game Day #3 Restrained Recalls that is relevant to this podcast, as well as MY dog paying attention to ME. She says something like, "You need to use a higher value reward, because, otherwise the mediocrity (of the reward) will be transferred to YOU!" DONE.

Thank you Susan. I've been following you probably from when you started using the internet, many many years ago. And the best thing is that you have always stayed true to you ethos. The lessons I've learned over the years and the knowledge I've passed on as a result have been life changing. Thank you for being my unofficial mentor over the years. YOUR AWESOME. (Darran)

Your wisdom is always timely! Just yesterday, I received an email from a client who mentioned she wanted her dog to have more focus. The implication was that she wanted the dog to focus on HER and not the environment. This podcast will be shared with her

Love this episode! I am in HSTD, loving it, have a 4 month old pup who is very smart, but also getting a lot of reinforcement in all the things to be found outside. This is very helpful, I will begin implementing today!

There's a difference between asking, "why won't my dog pay attention to me?" because you just want to complain and get a quick fix or do you really want to know?🤔 That requires effort on your part. Excellent advice once again Susan. 😃

This has to rank as one of the best podcasts ever! (They are all good) Susan finds a way of putting into words complex training methods that have taken years to achieve, then simplifies in a way that is easy to understand. Making us see a way to deal with our training issues with these fantastic, well thought-out games. ❤ Dog training GOLD ❤ THANK YOU ❤

Id be careful what i wish for. I need my dog to be alert to surroundings when we're walking and no totally relying on me. Also i have been torn between her independence and clingingness at home not needing to be trained that way.

This was so perfect thank you I think I missed the very end of your new puppy profits recall it cut it right off and didn’t show him coming you or even staying are you releasing him again? I don’t know if that’s how it was supposed to be or on my end it got shortened. Thank you again.

Hi @watchmoivies123 it's always great to read your notes! Here's Susan's words from the video transcript about celebrating Prophet's great recall: So, when Prophet came, when I called him of course I praised him, and I you know turned off the camera and I went crazy playing tug with him and letting him have just a great time letting him know that was a massively good choice.

@@DogsThat. Good morning OK I just wondered if it was on my end that I didn’t really get to see the whole thing So glad you’re having a wonderful time with your new puppy I know the feeling of trying to tape and train at the same time. It’s not very easy if you look at any of my KZbin’s, I tried to make a couple of walking KZbin’s with my dog, and once the phone fell out right out of my hand.

Hi Susann, I haven't trained the hand target yet but the it's your choice and it works incredible. Also in the morning on our walk. At the last part of our walk I sit on a bench, wait till she comes and give her cookies and then i do the it's your choice and it is too funny how she reacts every time, she put the head in the opposite side looks far away from it till i see get it, so funny, but how can i get her to look at me even so it is so much fun watching her looking oposite
@DogsThat Жыл бұрын
