I’ll be 22 years sober in November. I was a dealer on everything I got my hands on, with a crew of people the same. Met a girl that never used and was full of light. I quit on the spot. Listening to this song I realized the friends I had, the only friends, were all addicts and dealers that acted like we were family. 22 years in November, and not one of them has ever offered or encouraged the use of anything since the moment I told them I’d quit. I’ve spent nearly 22 years thanking the woman made of light, but it was my friends, that motley crew of drug dealing addicts, that kept me sober long after her light had moved on from me. Thank you.

Meeting the person where they are at is what helps. I work at a recovery center and there are some people who at this moment don’t want the help but, for those who aren’t ready I focus on harm reduction. After a year of helping one person with harm reduction they are now sober with a job and working on themselves. Sometimes it takes a while but all who are addicted want to stop. Don’t let the demon of addiction have you think differently.

Wow this hits hard. I didn’t help my BF Ali get sober. She asked me for help in a way, I helped her home one night, and she told me ‘I’m finished Laura‘ and I didn’t take her seriously. I was in too deep myself, I guess. This video hits different because we were supposed to meet her at the pub on New Year’s Day after the madness of the night before. She didn’t come. We went to her house, and I knew, I knew, what we were going to find. RIP Ali. 😔

I came across this song a year later, and this song is stab through the heart because i lost my mother due to addiction, and my sister who im super close with now is also battling an addiction. I dont know how to help her, and all i can do is be there for her & listen. Because i feel like that's what she needs. This is my first time seeing the music video. I cried so hard. I know what this is like, chasing the parties, the drugs, the lows... oh god did I want to die. I hated myself, I hated everything and tried to overdose on purpose once because I couldn't take it anymore. Im very good friends with my boss and the owner of my job. Its a bar. Im the cook. I came to work there by living in the small town. The owner is a drunk. Everyone had/ has given up on him whennibstarted a year ago. I have tried and tried to hel0 him get sober and stay sober. He detoxed this past weekend and im so proud of him. But everyone says hes just ganna go back. And i spazed out telling them they need to keep that to themselves cuz its not helping. Support him. I now have to move to another state and i know im going to get a call that hes passed. I am not looking forward to it cuz i love the guy like a goffy uncle. It brakes my heart that i cant help him. Alcoholism is the most ruthless addiction it's repetitive and easily accessible and the quickest go to when things get rough. As a 14 month sober repetitive alcoholic please don't let a pattern emerge drink one day then not again for some time because the cravings and the addiction itself is a sneaky and fickle mistress offering a blank mind and an easy way to pass a day but trust me the vomiting the diarrhea the dry wretching the shakes the hot and cold sweats the fear of even moving your body ever so slightly just incase you accidentally set it all back off again unable to sleep mind racing with thoughts from something to nothing constantly and it's the only withdrawal on the planet that can kill you if you try to withdraw without professional help so please do the best you can to pick a can of coke up instead of a beer or a bottle of tonic instead of spirits just choose the alternative and good luck you got this

Nail on the head if alcohol was made brand new in this day and age it would be a class a illegal substance Rory stay strong everyone else if you go to a party when it ends leave the drink what you have in your hand at the party place and make your way to your home don't let beer control you you need to become stronger so you can control the beer instead and this is from a recovering alcoholic i control beer now im in charge stay strong and don't forget there's always a friend who will help you
