Edward Flanagan Well, whether or not it's life-threatening depends on what microorganism is causing the infection. Bacterial and fungal meningitis are more dangerous than viral meningitis. If someone has viral meningitis, the doctor will probably administer some anti-viral medication and maybe admit them for observation. Other than that, they'll recommend letting the disease run its course and getting lots of rest while drinking lots of fluids. If it's bacterial or fungal, the doctor will administer some anti-fungal or antibiotic medication.
