This video walks through the steps of layperson CPR and choking intervention for infants (under 1 year of age). CPR is a lifesaving procedure that helps keep vital organs perfused in the event of cardiac arrest.
While the information in this video is correct to the best of my knowledge, always refer to official CPR recommendations and follow local policy, procedure, protocol and law when initiating medical care.

Last year my baby stopped breathing and moving for me on the changing table. He was 3 weeks old at the time and my husband has to perform cpr while we waited for the EMTs…I can’t stress enough how important it is to know this. My baby was able to survive his heart attack because my husband was there to do the CPR as I didn’t even know how. Thank you so much for posting this. I live in fear daily of this happening again and I often need to refresh myself.

So glad your child is ok and got diagnosed and treated. We @heartcharged are doing a big community infant/child CPR and choking class this weekend. We have a CHD ourselves. Definitely, a big step is getting people to realize even babies can have sudden cardiac arrest or a heart attack - so people will react to those conditions. As in, if you don’t know babies/children might have a heart condition, you don’t treat for one. @@jenniferfisher1721

I never understood why people thought babies were cute until I became a father. Now my heart melts when I look at babies. Just the look of amazement and curiosity in their little eyes alone is a killer. Besides the point great video. I hope no one ever has to ever be in a situation with a choking baby but it can't hurt to know how to be prepared.

I didn't come here for the education, I'm here to watch the baby. Don't judge me. Also, these heimlich maneuvers are effective in clearing choking with infants and toddlers. I've had to use it on my own kid before. All that previous training paid off. One was actually right before I was going to a CPR refresher recert.

I cant belive how well behaved Oliver is! Not a bother that dad is showing first aid! So beautiful too! (UK) The last time I did FA course, few years ago, we did 5 rescue breaths then 30/2 the instructor said this was because often when babies do stop breathing they more than likely need a stimulation to breathe again and the 5 rescue breaths gives them this. As I say this is in the UK and was a while ago. Thanks for making this

Thank you! Choking is a huge fear I have. My daughter choked at 9 months but my dad (an rn) was there and saved her. Now I'm on child number 3 and she's 5 months, just starting to reach and grab things , with a 7 yr old boy who loves legos, crayons, etc... choking is a huge nightmare and virtually impossible to fully baby proof against. I saved this video, you made it simple and I appreciate your time! (Also very adorable assistant!)

I don't know if this is his first kid or not but the confidence with which he holds Oliver is awesome. At that really early age holding a baby confidently makes them feel secure even if you're doing what looks like manhandling them they will feel secure if you hold them confidently and they will become scared of being dropped if you don't. Nice job Prepmedic-dad.

I'm not a medic, I just took a remote wilderness first-aid course and started building my own FAK because the kits available are mostly crap. Your channel came up and I usually just watch the videos that pertain to my goals. You have helped me build a lightweight trauma kit that far exceeds the life saving ability of most "hiker" first aid kits. My kids are well past the "baby" stage, but when I saw this video I had to watch it! I learned quite a few things my first-aid course didn't cover and was entertained the entire time. Keep up the great work! Thanks!

I just had to preform this on my son this week. the only thing I can say is that I have had a multitude of trainings but when it becomes your own child... training just left my mind and instinct is the only thing that stayed... the was 10 min of no breathing on his own and 1 breath every 30 seconds from my son. due to where I live, we made the choice to drive to the firestation as the rescue and ems were 20 min out. my son lived and the firefighters at the station were amazing. everyone told us we made the right choices but as a father... this was the scariest thing I have ever had to do.

Medic here, 17 years. It's hard to give you feild tips by text. But in general in the field interview you get multiple pieces of information at once. So the patient says "Yeah I was doing the lawn and just couldn't breath so I sat down and caught my breath but not feeling much better" That's symptoms, sings, event, Onset, provocation, relief, severity, all in the opening sentence. More importantly, I see people skip steps and get less on point with questioning as they go on in their career. For the interview, do it the same way, every time whether it looks like ns or not. Any other questions feel free to ask, man. good luck!

Honestly I feel that everyone who is going to be a parent should be taught these things in mandatory parenting classes (I mean in general I feel like this shit should be taught in schools instead of knowing the capitals of countries across the entire planet, but…) this definitely should be something mandatory for anyone who is going to be a parent
@marichrystina8421
@marichrystina8421 2 жыл бұрын
for your peace of mind, it is actually taught in schools! it was taught in mine, i remember trying to make sure this info stuck in case i ever needed it. and i believe they even showed the infant along with the adult! as for parenting classes, i'm not a parent so i'm not sure if they do or not, but they definitely should. it would be nice to know how to save your own baby

@@marichrystina8421 sadly they don’t do parenting classes no, at least, not where I’m from. A few might, if you pay extra, but it’s definitely not mandatory. As for schools, that’s awesome that they taught it at yours! Sadly it’s not taught everywhere yet though, even though it really really should!

Lil bloke holds his head really well. Seriously though the hardest jobs you will ever do. Below the nipple line? no centre of the chest, you run the risk of liver injury with the xiphoid process if you go to far down the sternum. Hence centre of the chest. Good vid mate.
