Hardest part I think is blindly removing the ac line bolt. Aside from that it’s pretty straightforward.

This was the best explanation and example I've found. I only have an issue with the "prism" (ac manifold hose) but I needed to fully grasp a bit more of the system so I stayed the whole time

That is a FANTASTIC VIDEO. vERY CLEAR CAMERA WORK AND PROCEDURES VERY WELL EXPLAINED. I learned a lot about the proper tools that are needed to do the job. I'm headed outside RIGHT NOW to start dissassembly so i can now replace the AC compressor in my 2006 Mark LT truck. Thank you VERY much for sharing your knowledge; it will save me a TON of money. PLEASE make more videos like this (about 2004-2008 F150) I have subscribed.

On most Ford's there is a sticker with a diagram of the serpentine belt routing that's attached to that first plastic shroud that you removed which covered the frame/radiator mounts.

I wanted to comment and thank you for this really great, well done video (as well as the dryer video). A couple of things I wanted to bring up that I noticed. #1 I left the bracket on by the power steering pump but removed the upper radiator hose. Felt that was easier. #2 This is clearly a 2WD vehicle. The 4WD is a bit harder as the shaft is in the way #3 Getting the compressor lines unbolted were a bit harder than it appeared here

@HelpingHandAutoRepair3 ай бұрын
I don’t have any videos adding Freon. I don’t like any of that canned crap from auto parts stores. By the time you end up paying $60 (or more) for some Freon in a can. You could have had a proper AC shop charge your system properly. More importantly they will advise you of any leaks you could have (most people have leaks) and point you in the right direction as to fix the leaks. This way you don’t have to keep buying cans (see:wasting money) to keep charging it up.

Why did you remove the fan and shroud if the ac compressor come out from the bottom.
@HelpingHandAutoRepair2 жыл бұрын
I had other things to do on this truck as well. You could probably do this job without removing the fan shroud, however while under the truck, I found it much easier to reach around the front of the motor to get the ac line off as well as being able to have a correct range of motion for the ratchet on the upper bolt.

I support removing the Fan and Shroud. The exhaust manifold is in the way, and I am more worried about getting debris in the new one. The compressor won’t come out from the bottom with the AC lines attached. So, the time and place of installing the hoses to compressor can reduce risk of getting dirt inside. I’m in the midst of doing this job, now.
@HappyJF Жыл бұрын
If you have a 4x you need to remove it through the fan shroud

You will need the extra room to disconnect the high low lines on compressor. As well as the electrical harness.

Great job! Seems sort of easy, im about to do the same on a 04 explorer with a 4.6L V8 4x4, from what I’ve seen on other videos does the ac compressor need to be oiled? And is it really necessary to vacuum the lines/compressor after installing the new ac compressor?

I tried all size ratchet’s and wrench 🔧 and couldn’t properly fit them on that top bolt that goes in between the ac lines because of the exhaust manifold. Tip for you from an old mechanic, take your fan, and shroud out before doing anything with the belt. The belt, and pulleys are a million times easier with the shroud, and fan out of the way, plus the water pump wont spin with the belt on it. Doing the belt first saves you no time, just makes things more difficult.

Do you remember the specific reason the customer wanted the AC compressor and dryer replaced? I just finished a timing job and now in the middle of changing out the passenger exhaust manifold and had the dryer and compressor pulled to gain access to everything I needed to do. I'm wondering whether to change out these items as preventive maintenance or just go with - if it's not broke why fix it. Thanks

Great video, very detailed for removal. I think you removed too much the ac is basically under the right front wheel well. I think I can do this one. You didn't feel the need to replace the hose ?? Do you have any concerns about what's left over in the lines ? Having more to do explains taking more off. Any concerns about the Condenser?? .
