We arrive at Helsinki, Finland airport on a flight from London, and take the train into the city center, then walk to our studio apartment in the Katajannoka district. We walk on Pohjoisesplanadi, a beautiful street of outdoor cafes and art galleries, lining a linear green park called the Esplanadi. Finally, we arrive at my apartment located in a trendy district of restored warehouses, and I give you a tour of my studio apartment.

The thing is that in Finland, you get a small fee for bringing bottles and cans to recycling points, so people like picking them up.
@turpasauna
@turpasauna 2 ай бұрын
Finns are very organized people. Recycling works nicely, as 97% of all bottles and cans are recycled. 😊 In the center there is thrash on the streets, but it gets cleaned every morning.
@Hoksaaja
@Hoksaaja Ай бұрын
When you buy a can or bottle in Finland, you pay a deposit of EUR 0.10-0.40 per bottle or can. That's why people return them and the ones left behind are collected by the poor who get extra money from them. It keeps the streets clean of that trash. An empty bottle and can is like coins left on the street.

For others: the same ticket that gets you train from Airport to the City also applies to trams and busses for a combined total travel time of hour and half or so (depending on how many zones you bought), so you could have also taken a tram from Central Railway Station to Katajanokka instead of walking all the way. Also, Helsinki region transit system has a nice mobile app that allows you to plan these routes, showing total times by various combinations and helping you navigate when you walk.

"Puisto" means park, not garden. Garden is "puutarha" in Finnish. Also, I know you probably preferred the walk but it should be noted that with the same ticket you bought for the train, you could have used the trains, trams, metros (subways) and buses in the capital city area for like a couple of hours or so, including a tram to the hotel. Just in case anyone reading this is planning a trip to Helsinki thinking they'd have to walk.

I wouldn't say as a Finnish person, that most people are Agnostic or Atheist. Most of us are a part of the protestant denomination Lutheranism, (after Martin Luther) thought we have 60k people country-wide in the Orthodox church of Finland, which I'm a part of. Our Orthodox church is autonomous and not a part of the Eastern Orthodox church. Almost no one lives religiously thought, so you could say most of us are secular Christians, who don't really practice the religion we're part of. We go like once or twice a year to church:D On christmas and easter. Like the other commenter said, it's more of a cultural thing these days and if you would go ask a person on the street, that do they believe in God, I don't think many people would say they believe in a God.

Also now that we're talking about rankings I got tell the story about Jari Aarnio. We used to be the most nom-corrupted country on Earth, but in 2015 the head of KRP (KeskusRikosPoliisi/CentralCrimePolice, basically DEA & FBI combined) Jari Aarnio got caught for trafficking millions euros worth of different drugs to Finland for years. So he had been a part of a major international drug operation (that all the other Nordic countries head police chiefs were apart of too) as the head of KRP, so that time we went from the most non-corrupted country to the third most non-corrupted country, because of one man😂
