Helvie Detail Carving Knife Unboxing and First Impressions

This was a tough knife to get my hands on! Helvie knives are famous for their high quality and durability. This particular knife is the detail blade with a natural wood handle.
This video just covers my first impressions--spoiler alert: it's VERY good.

Got a Helvie last year took me two months checking their web page. Good knife but I reach for my OCC more often. Like beaver craft also.

If you want to test the sharpness, try to pull a curl off the end grain! I get these videos about Helvie popping up since I subscribed to their channel. I purchased just some blades from them and they came quite quickly. Of course, life got in the way and haven't gotten a chance to build knives but will this week. I too, have been mostly a flat grind guy with OCC and others. It will be interesting to see what I think of a convex grind.

What is the length of the blade?

Helvies are really well made. But they are very thin blades which gives them extra sharpness BUT very flexible too. They steer themselves away from the cut im trying to make so they're not for me, SORRY! I prefer the OCCT's personally. Much sturdier.

Which OCCT knives you use?

I've had my OCC's for 4 years now. They are1" 1.5" and2" all straight flat ground.@@pastuh

Ill be honest I think Helvie are good but I prefer OCCT. the handle on my Helvie has lost all shine and I asked them what I could. Not a great response. Their customer service isn't great.
