Those first few exchanges really show the power of standing your ground over retreating after every swing or two

Awesome sparring footage! :D It's very interesting to me as quite a small fencer myself that most of the time when Keith receives a touch, it is when he is in the Nach and sort of starts breaking his own structure by leaning backwards against his taller opponent. Leaning with the upper body when being defensive is something I have noticed doing myself sometimes and it almost always results in me losing structure and either getting hit or making it very difficult to strike an instant riposte after parrying due to most of my weight being off center. It is a natural reaction when an opponent towers over you, but still I wonder how to completely be rid of this habit.

As an average sized fencer myself, I would simply recommend patient fearlessness and a reliance on solid parry/reposts. Knowing the measure of your opponent is a tricky business, especially for the taller ones. Being able to suppress the flight response takes alot of drill-practice and repetition. Best of luck!

Vedo un ottimo sfruttamento dello scandaglio e della programmazione che poi concludono in azioni efficaci e belle da vedere

i wonder if the day will ever come that hema realizes the vast majority of attacks and defences in these old fencing systems are not done lineally. fiore tells you in the defense to step with the forward foot across the rear foot to the side followed by the rear foot around. this footwork still survives today in some living traditions. it is a very old and common way of stepping in systems that are predominantly cut based. the secret , if you can call it that, is the attacks use the same footwork as the defense, you attack the way you defend, you defend the way you attack, at an angle from the sides, using continual motion stepping around your opponent, not standing in front of each other and attacking directly forward, which was considered to be mutual destruction for the most part. its achilles heel is throwing a very quick thrust in while your opponent is stepping around to you.
