To people wondering how they train the dog to find food is they reward it with a toy instead of a treat. At a young age they will let the puppy select from a large amount of toys to find one it really likes and calls its own. So when training it, if it finds the food and doesn't eat it then it gets to play with its toy!

*FUNNY STORY* So when I was in high school, I was in a program called FOCUS Veterinarian Care which meant we did a lot of different activities pertaining to jobs that worked with animals. One time we went to the airport with another FOCUS group that did police and security stuff and so working with airport security dogs was pertinent to both programs. Anyway, we’re at the airport and this handler is doing a demonstration on how the dog can sniff drugs in any suitcase even when it’s been quadruple wrapped in duct tape to mask the odour. Of course, they didn’t use real drugs. They used a sugar substance that smells exactly like cocaine (btw cocaine smells sweet, apparently). It was pretty cool. The dog found it every time. Then the handler goes to talking about the challenges of the job and starts to walk the dog down the line of students. The dog is sniffing all our feet and then STOPS and SITS DOWN at the other program’s teacher. Everyone in the group is “Oh SHIT.” Like that teacher has got something on him wtf. And the teacher pulls a bag of the fake cocaine out of his pocket. Well played, bro. Well played. Tl;dr. A teacher fooled us into thinking he had drugs on him during a class with airport security drug dogs.

my brother went to India for a program that fixes cleft lips and cleft pallets in kids, and in the airport, he had his bag searched 11 times in 60 feet of walking.

For those who are curious of "Sniper" in the description. Dogs can be used to sniff out a Snipers' position much like how dogs are used to minesweep by sniffing out mines for Sappers. Many working Canine "nose" their stuff.
