My 2004 Ram Hemi has been a dream truck. Nearly 190,000 miles with no drama. It was pulling horse trailers for years. No reason to get into an online six anytime soon. I expect it to go to 230,000 or so (and I'll probably have the engine rebuilt at that point). Naw. I'm good.

and if you ever fovrebuild the engine with the money you save you could have the internals of the engine upgraded since it wouldn't be much of a cost difference because they already have to replace the internal parts so you'd only be paying for upgraded parts which is not that much more in cost making the motor more reliable than a stock motor and you could add a magnuson or whipple supercharger kit to it and it'd still be just as reliable if not more if you don't go crazy and crank it up way too much and the kits they have now days come with liteally everything needed to install the supercharger so you literally can't screw it up because they come with literally everything needed to install the supercharger to your truck so there is not one part you'll have to get to install it

259k on my 5.7 no issues no tick . Change your oil. Change my oil every 3000 miles. Cheapest maintenance you can do.

My well maintained 5.7 died at 246k miles due to a failed timing chain tensioner. With the amount of miles you have I sincerely urge you to replace the timing chain tensioner now before your engine grenades itself like mine did. Just get the entire timing chain set replaced asap.

Whoever buys them, I hope they bought one hell of a warranty. I do my oil changes every 3k on it and soon I am changing out to the Shell Rotella T6 Multi-vehicle which is good for gasoline and diesel engines. It has all the properties that protect diesel engines so it should have better protection in gasoline engines

5.7 hemi as been out for so long they improved them a lot and the chances of lifters or manifolds break is only if you don’t maintain them I’ve had my ram for 7 years almost 8 and I was the first owner I haven’t even experienced lifter or manifold problems yet she runs on oil changes at that’s it I do my oil changes every 3-4k miles and she runs like a dream

I drive an '06 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie club cab 4x4 w/5.7 Hemi. It has 150k miles. I've had it since 69k miles, so I've doubled them. I perform all the oil changes myself and use 100% synthetic oil. No tick. In fact, the only driveline issues I've had with this 19 yr old truck was an oil pressure sensor and the rear diff that needed some new bearings and a pinion seal. The most important metric is this: I paid $12k cash for that truck many years ago. None of the new trucks can provide the value (utility for $) that I have now. Until it dies, I'm keeping it. Even then, it is probably economically best to replace an engine or tranny or transfer case given the cost of a repair vs. a newer truck.

I put 140,000 trouble and tick free miles on my 2012 5.7, now have 23,000 on my 2022 6.4. Regular oil changes with fully synthetic oil and limit your idling times and you'll have no problem with your hemi.

I have a 13’ ram hemi with 300k miles on it. Zero serious issues. When these hurricane engines are proven to do that reliably, I’ll except the new engines. I can’t expect imagine there’s going to be issues at least the first few years with these. Sell before warranty is up.

My last two trucks that I have owned have been turbo I won't buy another one until I have no choice they always have problems whether it's oil leaking out of the turbo or anything else that pops up but there's always problems. To many plastic parts that fail. Thermostat and water pump housings both need to be aluminum. Like the 3.6 V6 there's plastic parts that can cause total engine failure.

I have a 2024 Rebel with a 5.7. I prefer the Stormtrooper front end as it ties it to the 4th gen warlock, there's history there. I have the blacked out package on mine so there is the all black wheels (no chrome). The tail lights look better on the 2024. The headlights are the same but the 24 has the LED surround. With AlfaOBD you can make the surround your DRL and it looks great! Can't do that in the 25. The 5.7 sounds great! Coming from the Ecodiesel (which blew up at 77,000 miles) I'm more than a little scared of Italian motors. I am very happy with my purchase. Thanks for the great review and comparison!

When I drove the 3.0l I thought it sounded fine, good even for a turbo 6 truck. Obviously no v8 but very strong and smooth power. My biggest complaint is the spike in boost on the low end of the RPM. Compared to an ecoboost the power doesn’t feel as smooth. It does idle remarkably smooth, smoother than an ecoboost.

The hemi tick doesnt matter at all. A truck motor should be able to run like shit for 100k miles. The second something is out of spec on that turbo six, it will eat itself before you can schedule a service at the dealer.

I will stay with the Hemi. I don’t want a plastic cooling system i6. Plastic thermostat plastic impeller water pump. Plastic connections. There won’t be the same longevity as the proven V8. I have 179,000 on my 5.7 no tic no oil consumption. It was in the shop once when it was new. Only oil changes breaks and tires since new.

Nearly all modern vehicles have radiator with plastics end and water pumps. My wife's 2016 cherokee has had 4 thermostats.. why? Because it is electronic controlled. If engine doesn't warm up fast enough, it throws a CEL. Then you can't use remote start.

Did both trucks have 3.92 gears? My biggest problem with the Hurricane is no dipstick, 0W-20 oil(Ford and GM use 5W-30 in their turbo gas engines) and no dual fuel injection like Ford and Toyota have. Personally I have nothing against the whole turbo six thing since my last two out of three trucks have been F150s with the 3.5.

25hp difference? Lol. Just throw a tune at the hemi to get the power it should of had to begin with from factory, and it makes more power than the I6 3.0 Hurricrap. Everyone fails to realize that the hemi is capable of so much more power and torque, and the manufacturer just had a seriously conservative tune put into it. And as for the "hemi tick", most commonly its a cracked manifold or exhaust stud. Just replace the manifolds with long tube headers and your good, unless you want to replace them again after 60k miles. As for the valve tick that they also say is the "hemi tick", turn off the MDS system permanently through a tune. The MDS is the single biggest killer of the hemi engines. It just creates uneven wear and tear on the camshaft, lifters and valves.

Dodge calls for thin (0-20) oil in the HEMI 5.7 for a tad better MPG to raise their CAFE rating. This is what causes the tick. I went to what is called for in my Scat Pack (0-40) and never heard the tick again from my RAM.

TFL just did the tow test w the RHO and uphill it did great, but down hill it had 11 break applications which is way worse than the raptors or the TRX. It down shifted and was holding between 4-5k rpm’s but not enough engine breaking sadly.

I've rebuilt them with 400,000 miles and the failures are usually lack of oil changes or overheated. Cam and lifter is excessive idling time. That's hemi in a nutshell. Yes Dodge is going down. The people they brought out to test drive their new EV’s weren’t impressed and at times joked about them. The actual Dodge reps didn’t seem too enthusiastic about them either. Do something very simple and add boost to that Hemi. Running a boosted truck against a NA truck! If that I6 is so good then why can it not beat the basic Hellcat! A boosted V8! The HO I6 won’t even touch it. Besides, the V8 engine will last longer especially when doing work and it’s already been shown several times that the I6 economy numbers aren’t as good as they claim. On top of that it’s still a stupid price for an I6 as they are charging a premium price for that engine.

Those round exhaust tips have long been a departure angle issue. Why doesnt RAM just put tips with flat bottoms to cure the issue??? Or put the tips higher in the bumper space? Seems like those are some no-brainer solutions...

Also, you're not buying a truck to be fast from red light to red light. Put these trucks through a towing torture test other than what TFL did and see which outperforms the other long term. Might i suggest a minimum of a 1000-mile towing torutre test. I could bet the hemi will live longer and have fewer issues.

I think so too.i do t trust twin turbo set up from Ram. It's most likely cheaply put together with a whole bunch of plastic pipes in the hottest part of the engine just waiting to start leaking like crazy after 50,000km

That truck is too big and wide for such a tiny engine (especially sound wise) Hellcat motors made sense for a truck that size. But that ricer engine is like TRX after it visited the vet to get neutered 😂

The 25 looks a lot cheaper than the 24, the lights are worse and the grill looks the same as a tradesman.

The Hurricane may turn out to be a good engine, no one knows. What we do know is that you always stay away from these new designs until they have proven themselves. Look at Ford’s 10 speed transmission. It was problematic at first, now it’s improving, but still has a way to go. It will probably eventually become a great transmission.

Pass, no deal on either, will keep my 05 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins. These candy trucks have that stupid 'dial-a-gear' knob on the dash. screw that. No shifter. At least mine has a shifter on the column and you can manually shift if you want. These are cars. The 5.7 at least has a dipstick. Big no on the absence of a dipstick on the straight six. Pass. Bad enough not one for the transmission. Hope Tim Kuniskis can fix Ram.

Being an inline 6 fan, I would take the hurricane. More powerful, smoother, quieter and better fuel milage.

I have a 2020 ram 1500 hemi. The oil cooler failed, allowing engine oil to tranvell into the cooling system, contaminating the coolant. STELLANTIS does not care. Dealer replaced part under warranty but refused to flush the cooling system. My first purchase to ever have a warranty and I get to pay for my big boy vehicle payment and a repair that should have been covered. I will never buy another FCA/stellantis produce.

Any dealership would’ve done the same exact thing your dealer would’ve done as fucked up as it is unfortunately. Corporate suits and greased palms get in the way of doing right by the customer all the time. You got a lifter failiure? Warranty only replaces the failed one and nothing else. Your heater core failed and sent coolant running into all the electronics and carpet below it? Only heater core covered.
