Today we are taking a look at the RTR version of the HPI Sport 3 4WD chassis, with a truly classic BMW 202 Turbo bodyshell! There is more here than meets the eye, and in this video I am taking you through the new items before we take the BMW out for a spin and test the traction on Norways dark and icy roads.
A classic combo with a vintage looking body on a tried and tested chassis? Yes please!
Meet the HPI Racing Sport 3 Flux with the BMW 2002 Turbo body! At first glance there is a lot of familiar stuff here, but a closer look reveals quite a bit of new elements. The BMW body has a 200 mm width and a 2500mm wheelbase, meaning it’s a TRUE 10th scale. It comes with some excellent chrome details such as wing mirrors, a period correct rear bumper and even a light kit with functioning brake lights.
The Sport 3 Chassis with the Flux brushless system is quick and nimble. Being a chassis that’s been out for a while, means that sourcing spares and upgrades is easy, and taking it to a local track will make you fit right in.
I’m very glad to see HPI coming out with more vehicles and looking healthy and strong for 2025. What else will there be at the horizon from them? I’m keeping my eyes peeled!

Very cool body. It is just a pity to see brand like HPI, Kyosho or Tamiya, working hard to provide good looking bodies, and still use classic body mount. It would be great if they could make some invisible mount. And good to see the Beemer drivers have the same reputation everywhere on earth :D :D

The lights alone is one major selling point! Kudos to HPI for such a small but really important detail. I totally agree with you, blue or blueish white led’s on rc’s are terrible! Nice catch 😉

Great stuff again bro! A little request from my side: I would love to see a specific build from your hands. I'm talking about the Orlandoo Hunter OH32X02 trophy truck, ofcourse with the clear body. It's a real challenge to build because of its very small size, and with the upgraded shocks it rides pretty realistic. I'd really love to see a paint job from your hands on it. It's such a cool little truck.

Nice review, and I appreciate the humor! The body looks nice, even if the proportions have been tweaked a bit to make it work. When I run the world, all bodies and chassis will have to be within 1% of the 1:1in all dimensions ;)

The steering geometry looks unusual to me. There’s a similar arrangement on my Losi Tenacity but you don’t see this very often on RC cars. Instead of an actual Ackermann bar, the steering links are connected to the bellcranks with a drag link in between. This makes the steering a little funny, and increases slop compared to a system where the steering links connect to a single-piece Ackermann bar.

The Vestergaard Group have owned HPI Racing since 2019. HRP Distributing and AMain Hobbies are the US Distributors.

Indeed the Vestergaard Group. In my opinion HPI has been truly turned into a healthy and prosperous company again. Spares are available and in stock, so no (legacy) product goes unsupported. New product is released at a steady pace in every budget and scale, and I’m very keen to see what 2025 holds for the brand. 👍🏼💪🏼

Well blinker fluid for BMW is quite expensive, that's why it's always empty. Maybe smobody should tell them, that the Dacia blinker fluid is compatible. 🤭

I was told, that AUDI and MERCEDES HAVE this fluid, but the driver`s don`t use it! And it happened that in a DACIA only the left side had the fluid in it... 😕😮

Trouble is , that chassis can't do straight line speed too well , neither can it handle too well either . That chassis is just too budget to be any good for a serious on road RC car unfortunately . Good enough to be a shelf queen with a bit finishing to the seperate rear body shell panel , but as a serious on road RC car , unfortunately it's just not so upto the job , unless you try to make a stab at it with a low powered brushed motor .

The suspension is a bit softer and more forgiving on this one, also slightly raised. When I ran it, there was ZERO traction and I still managed to get some good running in (off camera, two hands) with it giving me increasingly more confidence that it can be a good performer. Thanks for watching!
